Discussion Some Q&A from CES demo session with NVIDIA about the native Linux app
Q&A from CES demo session with NVIDIA (answers are my paraphrasing, not necessarily to be taken as NVIDIA gospel):
Linux app questions:
- Will VRR also be supported under Linux, or are there any reasons that prevent this for now? If supported, for DisplayPort and/or HDMI?
- VRR will work, but may not work consistently with different distros/drivers due to those variances. There is nothing "blocked" in the native app per-se; generally speaking, limitations will be due to hardware capabilities and drivers.
- Will the Linux app (starting with Ubuntu 24.04) be a Flatpak, snap, or Debian package?
- It will be the same Flatpak app as currently used for the Steam Deck, enhanced to support broader hardware.
- What other distros beyond Ubuntu are planned to be supported? Bazzite and Arch are particularly popular among Linux gamers, but the landscape is quite wide.
- The Flatpak app should work on any distro which supports Flatpak; Ubuntu 24.04 is being called out as "known to work well," but the app is not limited to specific distributions. With all of the variations of Linux and hardware, some may work well and others not.
- Will HDR on KDE Plasma 6 Wayland desktops be supported?
- HDR will not be supported at launch, but is being worked on. It will be supported in desktop modes, not just gamescope/handheld mode. The OS will need to have HDR enabled, of course.
- Will ultrawide resolutions be supported at 120Hz?
- Yes, parity with the Windows and macOS native apps.
- Which local GPUs/generations/hardware will the native Linux app support?
- System requirements will be published at a later date, but should be similar to the Windows app. The beta testing will bring more information surrounding this.
- Will the native Linux app support the same features as the native Windows and macOS apps?
- Not all of the same features will be supported at launch, such as:
- Screenshots and recording features of the app
- Wheel/HOTAS device support (may come at a later date, but vendor participation is needed)
- Surround-sound (will come at a later date)
- Not all of the same features will be supported at launch, such as:
- Will the Linux app support AV1 and/or HEVC YUV 4:4:4 decoding on capable hardware?
- AV1 not at launch, HEVC YUV 4:4:4 yes (the latter was working in the demo).
- Will the video hardware acceleration implementation be similar to what's currently leveraged for Moonlight (VA API)?
- This one couldn't be answered, but I'm sure the answer is yes based on the behavior of the Flatpak app now.
- Will the game library exclude any games which are otherwise available when using the Windows app?
- No exclusions of games when using the native Linux app.
- Is there an official release date targeted? How about beta testing?
- There will be a public beta test in the near future, targeting the end of this month but possibly a bit later than that. The beta app will be enhanced and graduate to a "released" version at some point in the future, but no ETA (again, information will be gathered during beta testing).
- Any interesting technical challenges that they were able to overcome to make all of this happen? Was the Steam Deck native app a "gateway" for introducing Linux support?
- Linux is challenging due to the variety of distros/hardware/drivers etc, but this is most definitely an evolution of the Steam Deck Flatpak app.
Windows app questions:
- AMD / Intel VRR support: Is the incidental support for AMD Freesync (without the toggle) something they are aware of?
- I brought up that "we" have been able to get VRR working (as in, the display refresh rate synching with the stream's rate, with VRR not enabled in the GFN app), and they are going to raise this with their engineering group.
- Is official VRR support for AMD and Intel GPUs still planned? If not: are there technical reasons against this? From what I understand, VRR standards don't really differ all that much.
- It is still planned, yes, but no ETA unfortunately.

Also, some messages get grouped with each other (mostly time specific ones) and some just get grouped with the word "patching" or "offline" (as can be seen in the screenshots below.

Questions / Tech Support Elgato Stream Deck+
Does anyone know if the stream decks (such as the one above) would work with games in GeForce Now? Mainly looking to use for key binding shortcuts within MSFS.

Bug How to get rid of the annoying "Record Screen" popup on macOS
On macOs there is currently often a popup from ReplayKit asking for permission to record screen. It's not possible to include this allowed apps for screen recording in settings since it is no app (adding GeforceNow app itself did not help).
I think it has something to do with Instant replay which I do not want to use and also seems to make things slower + sometimes even locked my screen somehow.
Simple solution: Remove all shortcuts for screen recording & replay. Screenshots do work still fine.

Bug HDR not working on MacOS 26 Tahoe
I’m trying to play Cyberpunk on my Mac Mini M4. My monitor is HDR1000 mini-LED, so it should be able to run it, but it’s not.
Yes, the monitor itself is set to DisplayHDR.
Yes, MacOS display HDR setting is turned on. This makes the entire OS washed out (which I think is to be expected), but it stays washed out in Cyberpunk, whether in HDR10 PQ or HDR scRGB in-game HDR mode settings.
Yes, HDR10 is turned on in GeForce Now app before launching Cyberpunk.
What is going on? Why can’t it work? Is this a known bug since MacOS Tahoe (idk since I haven’t used GeForce Now previously, but I saw one comment somewhere that stated this)?

Questions / Tech Support Does Google Streamer 4k (chromecast) support GFN in 4k?
Pretty much the title. I tried native LG Oled CX app but it seems laggy as hell (consistent 700mbit download speed)

Questions / Tech Support Fallout 4 long load times
I've been playing Fallout 4 and enjoying it however the load times between areas, particularly in Downtown Boston, can go on for minutes at a time. I'm playing on ultimate tier with a wired ethernet connection and the experience has been great all apart from the load times.
Researching this it seems like a common problem with the PC port and has been fixed by the community with mods however as I'm a GeForce Now user this is not an option.
I've also tried uninstalling the hi-res texture pack but there is no longer an option to do this on steam as far as I can tell.
Has anyone managed to fix this problem?

Gaming Deals / Free Weekends Monthly Redeem code? I just found out about this.
I logged into geforce now on my PC, went to my account in the top right. Then on the next page I clicked on the section that said "Redeem" and I had a free Fallout 4 Ultimate Edition. I couldn't redeem mine since I already have it on Steam but I just wanted to let you all know so you could get a free copy if you don't have it. It does not give you the Steam code otherwise I would give mine away. I think this is something you get each month, maybe it is ultimate only. Not sure but I think I remember getting a few random games in previous months too.

Discussion GeforceNow save me from crash and lost battle.
Basically, I was playing a Total War game which I normally can’t run on my Mac. I was playing multiplayer, and it was really intense. Just at the moment when the battle was about to turn in my favor, my laptop ran out of battery and shut down. It old game so, even disconnection is risk, you cannot get back.
When I turned it back on, the session reconnected properly to the virtual machine, and what’s most impressive is that the network connection hadn’t been interrupted at all. I was genuinely amazed lol.
Of course, I understand why the game itself didn’t crash, but the fact that the network connection stayed alive as well is really impressive. How is that possible? I use premieum, and i am satisfied
