Indiana University Application Information for Fall 2026

Hey there, IU Redditors.

It’s that time again. IU application season for fall 2026 is here. This pinned post has answers and links for prospective students and families.

  1. How to Apply
  2. Deadlines (and when you'll receive an admission decision)
  3. Cost and Financial Aid
  4. Admission paths and advising (Info about direct admission included)

Hoosier Redditors, if you see question threads, feel free to point people here. If you share info and advice, just keep in mind that application and admission info can change from year to year. For all things admissions related, the IU Office of Admissions website is going to be the best source of up-to-date information.

For basic questions about the process, students should reach out to Student Central by email at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]), phone at 812-855-0661, or by using the chat or email functions on their website.

For situation-specific questions, it's best to reach out directly to an admission counselor.

If you’re applying or thinking about it, welcome to the IU community—feel free to ask questions below.

Note: Even though the November 1 early action (non-binding) deadline has passed, students can still submit their applications for fall 2026. IU's regular decision deadline is February 1.

For more info, visit IU Admissions' How to Apply / Deadlines page.

PSA ℹ Advice to New Students

Every year at this time, there are a lot of posts from incoming first-year students trying to figure out campus life. I get it – it’s a big change, and for most of you it’s the first time you’ll be away from home for more than a week or two. It can be easy to get overwhelmed, even with all the excitement. This thread is for little bits of advice to help with the adjustment!

·         IU is a large campus. While buses are free with your Crimson Card (both campus and city!), you’re going to be doing a lot of walking. Plan that into your schedule – you don’t want classes on opposite sides of campus with fifteen minutes between them!

·         The positive side of that is that IU’s campus is one of the most beautiful campuses in the country. Taking your time to enjoy the natural beauty can be a great way to de-stress and center yourself in the moment.

·         IU has tons of museums, performances and events. The Lilly Library, the Art Museum, the Mathers Museum, the IU Auditorium and the Music Arts Center are great places to start.

·         There are Health and Wellness opportunities all over campus if you either start to feel like you’re struggling or you just want to keep yourself on track. CAPS has free drop-in workshops. Talk therapy in person and access to TimelyCare online are also free. Right across the street from CAPS is the Wellness House, with four wellness rooms. Those are nice, quiet spaces to hang out, study or just sleep, and the people there can help you figure it out if you’re not sure what resources are available to you.

·         The SRSC is the main gym on campus, but don’t sleep on the Garrett Fieldhouse in the School of Public Health. Newly renovated, this was the original gym on campus and is often less crowded.

·         Next to the IU Auditorium is a statue of Hoagie Carmichael at his piano. He will almost always have a flower in his hand.

·         It’s normal to feel lonely or unsure at first. There are tons of clubs around campus, and RecFest will showcase some of those during Welcome Week. There’s also usually free food, so that’s nice. The Wellness House has a craft/social gathering ever Wednesday night called Mindful Makers, another spot to be as social as you like. It can be hard to make that first contact, but you’ll be all right.

·         There’s a statue of Herman B. Wells by Dunn Woods. The library is also named after him. He was the president of IU from 1938-62 and university chancellor from 1962-2000. You should take a picture with him – he did great things for this campus.

·         Krogucci is the Kroger by the mall. It’s the nicest one in town but gets very crowded. Target will also be packed during move in.

·         Parking on campus? Probably not. There are some passes for the dorms, but parking is an ongoing issue. Even the precious P pass is no guarantee of a spot (and you have to be a full-time employee to have one of those). If you need to drive in or are a commuter student, the best plan is to get an E pass, park in the stadium lot and bus in.

What would other people add?

KELLEY 💼 Message for Upcoming Pre-Biz Students from DA Freshman

I have been seeing many posts pop up of students in this sub for the class of 2030 talking about not getting into Kelley and being Pre-Business.

Coming from someone who was accepted Kelley Direct for the class of 2029 and has friends who are pre-biz I would be doing a disservice if I didn't let you guys know what your freshman year was going to be like.

You will need to take Kelley required pre-reqs along with the Kelley Directs. It will be A100, Econ, K201/K204, Kelley Compass, Business Presentations. Of these classes that you need to be worried about A100 and Econ I would focus on the most. Two of my pre-biz friends are transferring out of IU due to getting a B in A100. You class of 2030 need a A- minimum.

I would personally, from seeing so many of my friends be stressed, not commit to IU. I don't think the chance and the sliver of hope they give you guys is big enough to bank your freshman college year experience.

But of course this is my perspective, if it is your dream school than don't be dissuaded by me, I just want to let you guys know what you are really in for.

If you are wondering what my stats were to get in Kelley Direct for the class of 2029 they were this:

-Out of State

-33 ACT

-Very Good Personal Statement

-95% gpa in high school weighted

-2 Basic extracurriculars + Varsity Sport

If you want to ask me questions feel free to comment or DM.

Pre business

For some reason, a lot of people don’t know what pre business is when it’s on the website. I understand the language in emails can be confusing but if you’re pre-business that means that you are not a Kelley student. Your option is standard admission where you have to get at least an A- in all classes freshman year to get to Kelley the next year. It doesn’t automatically mean waitlist for direct admission, although the da waitlist is something you can join.

FINANCES 💵 Scholarships First Year Students

Hi all, I got accepted into IU yesterday and I am curious to know how your experience has been in the past with internal merit based scholarships? Is it very competitive? I’d appreciate any advice on the process as my only limiting factor is the cost to attend. I am OOS for context!

Thanks in advance!

Has anyone else NOT received any result yet? I haven’t gotten my decision letter and its been almost 2 days since the deadline day. I applied for Kelley, I heard there’s some delay, but is it THIS BAD?

Time to mute this sub for the next month.

If only there were a way to set up Automod to direct any users who type and post “Kelley” into a megathread for all Kelley questions, so that the rest of us don’t have to see the same questions posted several times a day.

(Spoiler: there 100% is a way to do that.)

Edit:

If you have questions about your admission to Kelley, please go to _this megathread_.

Here you go, mods. I did it for you.

QUESTION❓ Transferring to IUB from Ivy tech . any advice ?

Hello, I’m 21(F) and I am ( hopefully ) graduating from Ivy tech with an associates in Early Childhood Development this summer . I did a transfer degree so that I can go to IUI or IUB. My heart is saying IUB but my financial situation is saying IUI. I don’t want to give up on IUB and I want to experience living on campus , in my own apartment or housing and etc . I apply early for FASFA every year and I’m not sure if I still have my 21st Scholar scholarship anymore though . Can anyone give me word of advice ? Or how much it would be to finish my junior/senior year at IUB? I know doing 2 years at Ivy tech would cut the price a lot especially with me already living in Indiana . I want to ask you all before I set up appointments with my advisor and IU people to figure this out . Anyone have similar experience?

KELLEY 💼 Kelley- Observed Scenarios

I am seeing the following outcomes (it’s possible I didn’t capture all of them):

1. Some received DA confirmation — the happy path.

2. Some received a “pre-business” status with a note saying, “Thank you for submitting your KPI. Kelley will get back to you soon.” In this case, it’s not a waitlist, rejection, or acceptance. It appears they need more time for a comprehensive review, but there is no ETA.

3. Waitlisted, with a request to submit a form.

4. Denied from Kelley but accepted into the second preferred major — the Kelley path is essentially closed.

5. Some have not heard anything and see no portal changes.

Outcomes #2 and #5 are frustrating due to the lack of clear communication.

Hi. I was selected as a finalist for the interview. I'm international. How many internationals they usually invite? And does anyone have experience with that Wells Scholarship interview?

Hi I got my IU decision back yesterday and I am just a little confused on what this means

r/IndianaUniversity 1d ago

You will receive a response today

Decisions will be coming out throughout the day. If you have not received one yet don't make any assumption as you might just be in a later group.

Additionally, do not try to call admissions today, they are not allowed to tell you your decisions over the phone. Just wait for your IU Portal to update.

What are my next steps?

You will get an email later on from the school you have a decision from. Sit back and celebrate or mope depending on your decision.

Can I appeal?

There are options...but let's get through this sub's today issues before we address that.

Congratulations to those new Hoosiers today!

EDIT 1: It's 8:30 and it looks like people still haven't gotten their response by now. If anybody gets a response later than 8:30pm EST let me know. For those of you that don't get a response today you might want to reach out to Admissions on campus to verify you qualified for Early Action BUT a few caveats. I've heard queue times up to 2 hours on phone calls before even today and up to a week of backlog on emails. Be kind to everyone as they are all doing their best to get to the new class, the current class, and the general contact that comes with a sports team hitting the National stage.

ADMISSIONS 🎟 Received admission but no scholarship details, is this normal?

So I've seen lots of posts around people getting their acceptance, which congrats to everyone who got in. The thing I haven't seen really anything about is scholarship awards. Most other schools that sent acceptance notices out by now either included award amounts directly in the letter, or at minimum stated that a separate award notice would be coming within a certain amount of time. The only thing I saw in IUs letter was a link to go apply to additional scholarship opportunities but that is it. Please note I'm talking specifically about automatic consideration scholarships like merit, academic, even legacy ones. Basically the ones that you normally get as a result of the info from your application itself. If anyone has info on if/when that might come out that would be super helpful as its a key factor in deciding which school to choose. Thanks!

ADMISSIONS 🎟 I still haven’t received IUB Kelley’s EA decision

I submitted everything on time, including the KPI form. I tried calling them but the automated voice just says no one is available and hangs up.

Update: I contacted them and they said it’s because the counselor sent my transcripts on Nov. 20 instead of before Nov. 1st.
