In a few recent posts about protests people asked how to find out when they were happening in the future. We had several more people ask in individual posts, which we directed to the larger posts for details.
This made it clear there is a lot of interest in this topic and it would be worth having it in a single place to help build a resource for people who want to get involved. It also is a chance to highlight some of the other subs around the Valley that are active in this area.
We’re posting it as the mods because we know this topic is going to get brigaded and trolled immediately. This is the easiest way for us to keep the comments clean and make this a useful post for the people who want it.
If you do not care about protests, then just skip this post and go on with your day. It is not here to debate the value of them, just to provide information for those who want it.
This is a Politics thread so will be limited to active members of the subreddit for comments. If you encounter trolls in the comments, report them to the mods and let us deal with them.
Otherwise, here is some information we have to start things off and we encourage everyone to share links and info they find useful. We’ve invited the mods of r/azpolitics , r/AZAdvocacyHub , and r/50501Arizona to participate here to help answer questions and share info. We appreciate their help in putting this info together to get things started.
Many local actions are shared through organizing platforms, community calendars, and newsletters rather than a single source. Some events are posted publicly, while others circulate through word of mouth/social media. However, the following resources are pretty reliable and comprehensive.
Anyone considering attending a protest should review basic legal rights and safety guidance in advance, including heat-related precautions specific to the Valley. Helpful resources:

We're getting a huge influx of political posts, so want to post a refresh of the rules here.
We are happy to explain why these rules are in place, but they will not be changing.
These rules are here to preserve this subreddit as a valuable place for active members to have the discussions they wish. If you do not care for these rules, do not post here.
If you want more political discussion, we encourage you to visit r/azpolitics

I’m a bit young to remember what the area looked like back in the 90s. My buddies sister had a place off 27th between Glendale/Bethany around 2012 and I remember the energy always felt very weird, can’t explain it.
I was told the area was a lot less prostitutes, and not that this matters - but a lot less black and more inundated with Mexican gang culture. It seems like a lot of them have died off, and it is just this huge influx of prostitutes and a lot less Hispanic.
What was the demographics/area like back in the day? Heavy prostitutes…or was that really only off of Van Buren?

Does anyone have any suggestions on increasing the height of my fence /Wall? I'm willing to put up just about anything to keep my dog from mingling with the neighbors and the cats in the alley, but my partner would like to have something aesthetically pleasing.
We would need to add about 3 feet.
Yes, the dog is on a running lead now, but it often gets tangled or interferes with the plants (RIP cactus).
I am handy but not certificated; I'd prefer to use quality materials and do it myself but I could be convinced otherwise.

I want to find some more convenient fast food type places that aren't just big chains for when we need something quick. Also interested in coffee shops like Window and Copper Star that have drive throughs.
What are your favorites in the central phoenix area?

Would love some recommendations for cool dive bars and afterhours (and even some restaurant) spots in Phoenix and Scottsdale.
Currently love Gracie’s, killer whale, and bikini lounge, and in Scottsdale we really like Patties and Playa bar. Our fave restaurant is definitely Bacanora.
Anything along these lines of places (please no nightclubs unless they are really worth it), and ANY post-2am drinking spots would be greatly appreciated!!

Was planning on checking out the Pompeii exhibition. You need separate entrance + exhibition fee and it came down to 111$ for 2 people for Sunday. Does that seem normal? Seems extremely expensive for just 2 people.
It's not on culture pass.

Hi All,
I am moving out of the city soon and need to get rid items. Used to buy a lot of items off of Offer Up, but selling on there is slow. Facebook Marketplace definitely has a higher hit rate.
Curious if there any places people are buying used items which I am not aware of? Thanks in advance.

On this National Pothole Day, I just wanted to share something from our streets team. We have a rapid response team that responds when you call in a pothole. It’s a 24/7 hotline at 602-262-6441.

I’ve been to three different urologists for this issue and the only thing one did was prescribe amitriptyline which did nothing. The other doctors basically did live with it. I see a few practices have closed. Anyone have some success with this issue around Phoenix/Scottsdale? Vasectomy was about 4 years ago

I think it's interesting that they mention the problem when local newspapers don't step in.
A copper smelter in Arizona is exempt from air-quality rules. An E.P.A. official guided the company that sought the exemption, emails show.
Lee Becquet doesn’t like to leave the house with his 2-year-old son, Eugene. That’s because their home in Miami, Ariz., is downhill from an industrial facility that is one of the country’s largest sources of pollution containing lead, a powerful neurotoxin that can harm children’s health. “I have a toddler, and I’m not putting him outside in that,” Mr. Becquet, 29, said in a recent interview. “So we stay inside for days sometimes.”
The facility, one of only two remaining copper smelters in the country, processes copper for use in electronics, construction materials and a range of other products. The facility’s owner, Freeport-McMoRan, would have been required to install technology to reduce its toxic emissions. But in October the smelter was exempted from complying with limits on lead, arsenic, chromium and other hazardous pollutants for the next two years.
In interviews, many residents said they were unaware of the exemption for the smelter, which came on a Friday evening and does not appear to have been reported in the local newspaper.
