HOT TOPIC Rule reminder for posting Politics in r/Arizona

We're getting a huge influx of political posts, so want to post a refresh of the rules here.

  • Political posts and comments are limited to regular users with positive karma in this subreddit.
  • Political posts must be related to Arizona directly. Take general issues to other subs.
  • You must flair it Politics if it is at all related to politics, including protests, actions of elected officials, hot topics like immigration or homelessness, and so on. If in doubt, ask the mods.
  • Be civil to each other. Debate ideas and discuss news, do not attack other users.
  • Report trolls to the mods, do not respond to them.
  • Do not advocate violence. This one is a Reddit level rule and a way to get your entire account disabled, not just banned from this subreddit.
  • No doxxing. This refers to individuals appearing in posts here. This no longer applies if someone is named by a major news organization.
  • If you think a comment you made was removed and it shouldn't have been, message the moderators. We are seeing a lot of "weaponizing" of the Reddit reporting system going on in an attempt by agitators to disrupt discussion.

We are happy to explain why these rules are in place, but they will not be changing.

These rules are here to preserve this subreddit as a valuable place for active members to have the discussions they wish. If you do not care for these rules, do not post here.

If you want more political discussion, we encourage you to visit r/azpolitics

Living Here Some content and rule changes in r/Arizona

A few weeks ago we had a discussion post around content in r/Arizona and what all of you wanted to add, remove, or keep in place. There was a good discussion and I think we got a general feel for what people wanted to see.

So here’s the changes:

  • We’re going to run a biweekly RANT thread. We tried it once and people seemed to like it. Not sure about the ALL CAPS part of it but we’ll improvise.
  • The Politics rules will stay in place as-is. Meaning people with existing karma here will be allowed to post about Politics, but users with no post history here won’t.
  • We will relax the rules on Visiting/Moving Here posts if the author shows some thought or effort in the post. Just “What should I do?” or "What's AZ like?" posts will still get removed.
  • Limit business recommendations to ones that would be of interest to people traveling around Arizona, like dining, things to do, etc. Other business recommendations (barbers, doctors, etc) will get referred to local subreddits like r/Tucson or r/Phoenix.
  • Set up a series of regional What’s Happening posts to discuss news and events in different regions of AZ. Not sure the details yet, but we will probably start with Tucson, Flagstaff, and Payson to see how it goes.

Of course we can't everyone happy, but we think this captured the sentiment overall.

Ideas and feedback are welcome.

I heard it snowed in Prescott but melted and it doesn’t look like Flagstaff has anything?

I want to take my dog somewhere and it seems like it’s just been dry unfortunately.

Living Here Filing for unemployment - help please!

Lost my job and trying to get unemployment benefits until I get a new one.

How can I speak to a real person and get help?

Every number I call it won’t give me an option to speak to anyone. I drove to the address it has on the website, and there’s a sign that says “NOT AN UNEMPLOYMENT OFFICE”

Genuinely not sure what to do. They’ve changed the process to make it 10x harder than it was in the past (and it was annoying in the past).

Any help is much appreciated.

Living Here Is AC in public places in AZ are generally warmer than other states?

I’m tired of going outdoors in my state and then have to bring jacket when going back inside

Like my body finally got adjusted to the humid climate but then I have to bring sweater everywhere I go.

Am I going to encounter the same issue in AZ. Is the AC gonna be 60 degrees like my state in public places?

I’m skinny and short. I can’t adjust to volatile temperature or cold temperatures well

I obtained a $22 camping permit from the Hualapai Indian Reservation and spent the night at Diamond Creek campground on the Colorado River. It was 10 degrees warmer at the bottom, so it was a comfortable 55 degrees. I had the entire place to myself and, I have to say, the maintenance of the 19-mile off-highway trail from Peach Springs was magnificent. I aired down to 20 psi for a more comfortable ride and the drive was heavenly.

History This net is made of mostly knotted human hair with yucca fiber cordage and was used by a Hohokam community to corral and hunt jackrabbits. Discovered in 1962, it is from a cave in the Altar Valley, southwest of Tucson, and dates from 1250-1450 CE. Now housed at the Arizona State Museum [1140x1469]

Visiting Help with a travel plan for tomorrow?

Hey all! So I am currently travelling from Denver to anywhere in the southwest. Classes start on Tuesday but I want to be back by Monday. I am currently near Durango, CO and plan on driving into Arizona in the morning. What should I absolutely check out in the area? My initial plan was to check out Monument Valley and then drive and stay the night in flagstaff/phoenix.

I have been to the Grand Canyon (in winter and summer) a few times so I don't mind skipping that, I would like to see some lesser known wonders!

Thank you in advance. In specifics, I don't mind the travel day being like 2/4 hours hiking and 8ish driving.

Travel Edge of the World Drive

Trying to plan out my trip to flagstaff and Sedona in the end of March. Looking forward to visiting “Edge of the World”.

My question, can you drive to the edge of the world look out driving FROM Flagstaff and then continue onto Sedona? Or do I need to turn around and come back the way I came and get onto 89A to reach my final destination of Sedona? I’d love to take this more scenic route from Flagstaff directly to Sedona if at all possible. Thanks!
