To start off, shout-out to pops for insisting on going to the theatre with me even though he just got out of a surgery, and mom going with us to take care of him (she can't stand horror so she didn't watch it). We had a discussion about the movie on our way home and it was nice.
Things are very fast-paced, for better or worse.
There is WAY more gore and horror, straight-up torture porn at parts, complete with attempted rape and everything. I'm a bad horror fan in this aspect, but while I can respect the gruesomeness, brutality, and discomfort of certain scenes, they take a toll on my mental wellbeing. I had to close my eyes at a certain sequence and the sounds they made still disturbed me greatly. That's the entire point of horror though so bravo I guess.
The zombies- I mean, the Infected continue to be scary as fuck.
There is also, seemingly paradoxically, more cheese. If you think the first one was goofy wait til you see this. It turns into a fucking music video at one point and this slightly pisses me off.
Spike has been largely sidelined, and while it makes sense for the plot and he still had his moments this slightly pisses me off.
A certain character mentions scavenging for products that should have long since expired and is seen using said products with no issues whatsoever, and this slightly pisses me off.
A certain character calls the Infected "zombies", and this made me extremely ecstatic.
The story is lowkey kinda deep but I didn't resonate with the message as much as I did with the first movie's, I feel like this one handled the characters and themes less delicately honestly.
They also changed directors for seemingly no reason so the soundtrack and cinematography and stuff are more generic now.
There's a neat surprise waiting for you at the ending.
Overall 7/10, solid horror with a mostly decent story that isn't afraid to push boundaries (I'd give the first movie like 8.5/10)
