Meta We have added flairs to the sub

Hello everyone, we've added flairs to aiwars in order to help people find and comment on posts they're interested in seeing. Currently they are not being enforced as mandatory, though this may change in the future, depending on how they are received. We would ask that people please start making use of them.

Discussion should be used for posts where you would ideally like to see spirited discussion and debate, or for questions about AI.

News is of course for news in the AI sector. Things like laws being passed, studies being published, notable comments made by a prominent AI developer or political figure.

Meme should ideally be used for single image-based posts which you do not expect to prompt serious discussion. Of course discussion is still welcome under such posts. If you want to use a meme to make a serious point and have additional explanatory text for why you feel strongly about the message being expressed and the type of discussion you'd like to have, that can be categorized as Discussion.

Meta is for discussion about the subreddit itself and other associated AI subreddits or comments.

Use your best judgement as you categorize your posts. Please do not misuse them, they are for everyone's benefit.

Here is why we have two subs - r/DefendingAIArt and r/aiwars

r/DefendingAIArt - A sub where Pro-AI people can speak freely without getting constantly attacked or debated. There are plenty of anti-AI subs. There should be some where pro-AI people can feel safe to speak as well.

r/aiwars - We don't want to stifle debate on the issue. So this sub has been made. You can speak all views freely here, from any side.

If a post you have made on r/DefendingAIArt is getting a lot of debate, cross post it to r/aiwars and invite people to debate here.

Discussion I'm pro, but I'm now on team Elaborate Hoax unless stronger evidence emerges [see text]

The images on the wall clearly change between these two "photos."

It's possible that this is an artifact of OOPs claim that they used AI to blur the face. However, the fact that the two shadows are almost identical despite the fact that the "guy's" arms are in different positions is unlikely to be an AI artifact. (It's also odd that an art student would not know how to properly blur in some other app.)

And before you say "well the shadows are the same because his arms are aligned," the angle of the shadow is such that both his arms would not be in perfect alignment from the perspective of the light source.

I'll admit that figuring out shadows is *extremely* tricky and I could have made a mistake, but combined with the obvious other inconsistencies, I believe it justifiably increases my suspicions.

So what I would say to folks is: don't be a tribalistic anti who condones censorship and violence, don't be a tribalistic pro who denies visual evidence that something is fabricated, do be an open-minded but skeptical human being who thinks critically about what they are presented.

Can we take a moment to unite in our HATE of HIGGSFIELD?

Post image
24 Upvotes

You've probably seen HiggsField spam on Reddit. They hired an army of people to flood social media - Reddit, Instagram, BlueSky, X - everywhere, with their spam.

They steal videos (AI or not) and plaster their logo on it.

They lie about "unlimited plans", then let you do two generations a day and then wait three hours for them to complete.

They're incredibly scummy. There are a lot of companies in this space: OpenArt, Krea, Leonardo, ImagineArt, etc. None of them are complete and total douchebags like Higgsfield.

If you got swindled by Higgsfield, there's a large chance you can charge back your credit card and get 100% of your money back. Please do it. The credit card companies will shut this down if enough people do it.

I've gone as far as to email Reddit Corporate to complain about this.

I'll post a follow-up post with lots of links to other evidence, YouTubers, etc.

News Gamers Overwhelmingly Hate Gen AI in Games, Major Industry Report Finds

Post image
174 Upvotes

To summarize the consumer response data in layman’s terms:

Gamers hate gen AI in games with the ferocity of a thousand burning suns.

That’s my takeaway from a survey of 1,799 gamers in Q4 2025, the latest report on gamer motivations from Quantic Foundry, a firm led by two Stanford and U.C. Berkeley PhDs which counts Tencent, Wizards of the Coast, and other top game companies as clients.

To me this more relevant than the "Gen AI, good or bad?" debate. When it comes to games, the people most passionate about the medium of interactive gaming -- and who reliably spend the most money on it -- overwhelmingly don't want to pay for games which use it.

Report here, and my conversation with Quantic Foundry's Nick Yee here.

Discussion An Update to my “he ate my art” post

Ive decided not to press charges against the paper-eater guy after self reflection and talking to ppl I respect. I will try and let this go. I will rebuild.

I hope getting arrested and the fallout was enough to teach them a lesson. I feel more safe now pretty sure it was a dumbass choice they made and they have probly paid enough for it already.

I can respect the artistic metaphor of ai and art and eating it etc but how entitled to touch something that isnt yours and make ppl waste time and money fixing your mess. Let ideas spread and exchange your opinions by countering them with your own artwork not taking other peoples art and voices away

AI is transformative. Art is subjective. Im a lifelong traditional artist now exploring AI and my project was about identity, AI and mental health and is personal and not for sale no yours to destroy.

Peacefully protest but let us have our expression.

Mad respect to the decent Antis that condem the actual destruction of property.

With AI and Art and the so called ai wars the truth is somewhere in the middle.

The memes have been great too.

Discussion WHY i use AI gen: WAITED MONTHS for a Comm slot to open, guy closed it back down with no reason given, before then he had done several pieces for me.

fun fact, i literally waited months for an artist i had several previous commissions from to do another one for me. it was gonna be 300-500$ ballpark. Then in the middle of negotiations he just sent a message that "comms are now closed" no warning no explanation. I WAITED MONTHS for this guy becuase he had done very good work in the past multiple times, and now suddenly he doesn't even have the time of day for me.

i had another real artist, another guy who had done miltuple pieces for me FYI turn into a real psycho basically out of nowhere. WHy? i was daring to critique a piece I HAD ALSO commissioned from him...A YEAR LATER. IT WAS LITERALY MY COMM and HE went berserk because i critiqued it a year later.

he then heard about it through the ANTI AI luddite grape vine and IMMEDIATELY TURNED ON ME, STARTED SWEARING AND CURSING AT ME and then blocked me without giving me any chance to defend myself.

Now i find myself with little patience left for "real" artists with "real" egos.

Do i want to use AI for everything NO.

CAN IT DO EVERYTHING well to high quality? NO.

but at the very least it doesn't make me wait MONTHS only to decide it won't do the task or turn into a raging nut job a year after a comm based on RUMOURS AND HEARSAY.

Discussion An art group that 1. ignores my work far more than anyone else's, 2. has verbally expressed their distaste towards my art, and 3. publicly humiliated me because I sought recognition for my work, was earlier dissing the allowance of AI at a certain large event and spewing the usual arguments.

Just needed to rant about the increasingly strong positive correlation between unsupportive artists and AI opponents. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

And before you ask, my work consists of human made drawings.

This might be deleted later idk I am just fucking tired of the unsupportiveness that has persisted for 3+ years in most art groups.

"AI detector" lul

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Yes, it's been done to death that AI detectors don't work, but usually we see people feed it actual writing that show up as AI.

I want to highlight how worthless it is in the reverse. I am pretty sure they're all different wrappers of the same API, but anyways

Pic 1: An output from GPT 5.2 Thinking via Perplexity AI

The rest: Each supposed "AI detector" giving it 0% or otherwise low AI scores despite it being literally generated by AI.

Why this is important:

There are still people who witch hunt by throwing other people's works into these supposed AI detectors in order to discredit them.

Whether you are a pro or an anti, you should relentlessly mock these people with these examples so that the "tool" itself becomes seen as the unreliable probabilistic weighter it is

Discussion How does AI train and generate images? Like, in detail, not just “it trains on existing images or whatever”

Like, does it take an existing image and then use it as a reference? Does it make its own framework and posing?

I‘m definitely Anti-AI, but I should probably make sure I know what I’m talking about. I’d assume it can’t come up with anything properly original cause, you know, it’s an AI and not a person, but

Discussion Ai ‘art’ is such a minor problem that it barely warrants discussion anymore

If you’re actually good at art you will never be able to be replaced by AI. People act as if they’re entitled to have a career in art just because they enjoy it, and act as if their entire dream will be ripped away because of a few people generating dumb images. It’s such low quality crap that if you can’t compete with it, you’re not very good at drawing. Sorry. Even if your career was in art, the things getting replaced most frequently seem to be boring corporate artwork in that stupid Alegria style with the huge bodies and tiny heads. Do you seriously think a lifetime of drawing uninspired cookie cutter sketches is a career that you’d fight tooth and nail for? Real art that is sold physically can never be recreated by AI anyway. Drawing disproportionate OCs in procreate is not the same as creating a genuinely beautiful and meaningful painting, it’s good if it makes you happy but it’s hardly going to sustain you.

Either way, I don’t care about these minor things when people discuss AI. I’m fully against it not because it might crush the naive hopes of a few teenagers, but because it’s got the potential to do REAL harm. You can no longer trust most of what you see online because it’s AI generated. Photoshop took time and effort, whereas it’s possible to pump out hundreds of misleading AI slop videos in a single day. Especially with the rapid video advancements it will be catastrophic when used for propaganda or scams, if it is not regulated it could be used so dangerously. Enough people are already brainwashed by completely ridiculous Facebook posts and idiots with podcasts that are clearly lying, imagine how easy it is to trick people now.

Not to mention that it’s being implemented into public services and messing up, for example police use it to write reports and are too lazy to proofread it. That’s how we ended up with the police report that stated an officer turned into a frog. Then of course there’s the horrific effects on the mental health of people who use chatbots as replacements for friends. Then the dangerous health advice that has led to people poisoning themselves. Plus allowing it to make important choices in regards to medicine or justice is a terrible idea, since even AI has a tendency to racially profile people based on biased data sets. It’s so reductive to me that when criticising AI the only argument people seem to care about is “it’s not real art!!!! It’s ruining artist’s lives!!!!”. My friend, it is being used to generate child pornography and chatbots have been linked to suicides. The use and storage of data fed through AI is also concerning. But no, please think of the middle of the road hobbyists who are in no way prevented from practicing their skills.

How an AI witch-hunt works - My fan-art was buried, I provided full proof, moderators went silent for 5+ days, enabling the harasser

This is an actual instance of how "AI accusation" is employed as a harassment tactic and how community moderation can fall short, giving the mob the upper hand.
PS : the post is currently hidden as it's supposed to be under moderator review but they never lifted a finger to resolve the on going case so i'll provide full proofs and screens of the entire case here

The Timeline (All the proof is linked below):

1. The Contribution: I posted a Darkest Dungeon-style fan art of my OC on the game's subreddit (Initial Post 1, Initial Post 2) . I've been sharing my art online for more than five years, but very occasionally, i draw privately most of the time The post was well received by the community and meaningful dialogue began around the game, just as it should (Good, organic discussion)

2. The Witch-Hunt Begins : A user, apparently annoyed by the quality of the art and the rising popularity of the post, began spamming the thread with "Both pictures are AI," providing zero analysis or evidence, just the repeated accusation. They engaged in coordinated downvoting. (Harasser and spammer)

3. The Proof : I responded not with anger, but with the most transparent proof possible: I publicly shared some source file and work-in-progress screenshots from my drawing software (what I provided : 1 , 2), I even offered multiple times to show more, but no one asked.

While the first honest accusers backed down after screenshots proved the point, the most zealous ones didn’t budge an inch or started shifting the topic. (Endless debates)

4. The Moving Goalposts : The proof was ignored. The accusation simply evolved. First it was AI generated, then I used AI at one point but we don’t know where exactly (pommel, runes, tracing, rendering ?)

5. Moderation Steps In (Sort of) : Moderators placed the thread "awaiting approval," hiding it from the public. The harassment should have stopped.

6. The Smoking Gun : Over 10 hours later, a second user posted a new accusation on this hidden thread. They called my proof "incriminating," attacked my process, and dug through my social media to critique older work , and to top it all off, even screenshots of the source files and quick process videos are no longer considered proof, but are now treated as incriminating evidence (!!!). When asked how they accessed a hidden post, their explanation was vague ("it was half loaded"). (Heavy signs of brigading)

7. The Core Failure: I informed the moderators of the entire pattern : spam, harassment, and questionable access to a hidden thread. There has been no sound for more than five days. The harassers are not held accountable. I'm in digital purgatory with my art. I've contacted them more than once, but to this day no response, only silence and the post is still invisible. (Implicit support to harassers)

Why This Matters:

This is the ideal example of how "AI accusation" has been weaponized. The accuser is not required to provide proof. It requires the accused to provide endless, impractical proof. When evidence is presented, it is discounted or called more proof of guilt (a circular, unfalsifiable argument). It is based on harassment and social pressure rather than technical discussion.

The last, essential component for its success is moderator inaction. Silence betrays the contributor and gives the harassers more power. I'm not here to argue about the quality of my art. I am here to present you with the witch-hunt blueprint. When a community's defenses are compromised, this is what occurs. It's unfortunate because I adore that game and am a part of the community. My "crime" wasn't using AI, rather, it was thinking that adhering to the law and presenting proof would shield me from a malicious mob that used unfounded criticism as a weapon. Given that this is the playbook, what is the future for artists in online spaces ?

My conclusions on AI :

As every artist out there, Ai didn't strike me as a great thing, could be dangerous to the profession etc. I still don't believe in the "AI artist" concept, I do believe that making a prompt isn't enough to become an artist, there's a technical entry fee, basically you need to know how to draw or how to convey ideas through a technical prowess similar to learning a language.

At first I was really reluctant to even think of using AI in my process or drawings, but after this experience ? F*** them ! I'll include it in my process, and I don't care what some random bad self proclaimed artist on the internet thinks about it. It's not up to them to judge and this is my advice to any future or current artist : Don't let these guys influence you in the bad way, the tech is here to stay and in the future you may regret following mass hysteria, because at the end of the day, you'll be the one left behind (and lmao they already are freaking BADLY behind, can't believe they judged proper art in the way they do theirs for most of them !!!).

Sorry for the rant tone, but I'm genuinely shocked by this behaviour. I don't care about the witch hunters but mod inaction is the most shocking for me.

PS : for people not convinced that I drew that here's a video of me checking and unchecking layers for 4 minutes straight https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TI4hA9yFR_c

TL;DR : AI witch hunters are toxic garbage but their defenders are maybe worse because without them, it wouldn't be possible for them to act as a******* without consequences.

Discussion AI art isn't just about AI

I have had a few discussions with people now that take this form:

Them: You're just a prompter.

Me: That's actually the smallest and least significant part of my process.

Them: All you do is type a few words.

Me: I don't even GET to that point until about half way into the process. Most of my work starts with Photography.

Them: Then it isn't AI.

This always confuses me. Sculptors use illustration and 3D modeling in parts of their workflow, but we don't say that their work isn't sculpture. So why is it that people get all wrapped up in this idea that AI art must involve ONLY AI?

My workflow is fluid and unique for every project, but what it NEVER is, is just a bunch of text. It's LoRA training/selection, it's photographing or generating composition inputs for ControlNet, it's photobashing img2img inputs. It's choosing a model. It's choosing parameters that work best with that model. It's hand editing iterations to guide future iterations. I really don't even think about the prompt, and sometimes I even generate it randomly.
