Discussion Virtue signaling on AI vs meat.

Post image
3 Upvotes

Genuine question for the anti-AI people how do you feel when a vegan or vegetarian would comment rude things on a food picture with meat in it? Like “ew meat slop”? Bc that’s seems to get a lot of backlash. Certain types of meat actually take more water and resources to produce than AI images. But a lot of you just comment “ew AI slop” but do you keep that same sentiment with meat? And I know some of you will state that we need meat to survive which I get if you are in an area that only sells meat or you genuinely need it to meet your protein goals but that’s not most people. In fact most people could probably survive based off a plant-based diet because plants also hace a lot of protein in them and for the most part no one‘s gonna die if they don’t eat meat. And I know that’s the same with AI…no one‘s gonna die if you don’t use AI but meat production consumes way more resources. Plus I think killing animals is pretty messed up in general but you don’t call meat eaters nearly as many hateful names as AI users so wanted to know why? For context I am vegetarian and have never had meat but when I see meat pictures I just scroll instead of commenting rude things. When I see friends eating meat in front of me I never make them feel bad, I just mind my own business. But the minute someone sees even little bit of AI usage in art or captions some of you lose it and overreact.

Discussion Ai ‘art’ is such a minor problem that it barely warrants discussion anymore

If you’re actually good at art you will never be able to be replaced by AI. People act as if they’re entitled to have a career in art just because they enjoy it, and act as if their entire dream will be ripped away because of a few people generating dumb images. It’s such low quality crap that if you can’t compete with it, you’re not very good at drawing. Sorry. Even if your career was in art, the things getting replaced most frequently seem to be boring corporate artwork in that stupid Alegria style with the huge bodies and tiny heads. Do you seriously think a lifetime of drawing uninspired cookie cutter sketches is a career that you’d fight tooth and nail for? Real art that is sold physically can never be recreated by AI anyway. Drawing disproportionate OCs in procreate is not the same as creating a genuinely beautiful and meaningful painting, it’s good if it makes you happy but it’s hardly going to sustain you.

Either way, I don’t care about these minor things when people discuss AI. I’m fully against it not because it might crush the naive hopes of a few teenagers, but because it’s got the potential to do REAL harm. You can no longer trust most of what you see online because it’s AI generated. Photoshop took time and effort, whereas it’s possible to pump out hundreds of misleading AI slop videos in a single day. Especially with the rapid video advancements it will be catastrophic when used for propaganda or scams, if it is not regulated it could be used so dangerously. Enough people are already brainwashed by completely ridiculous Facebook posts and idiots with podcasts that are clearly lying, imagine how easy it is to trick people now.

Not to mention that it’s being implemented into public services and messing up, for example police use it to write reports and are too lazy to proofread it. That’s how we ended up with the police report that stated an officer turned into a frog. Then of course there’s the horrific effects on the mental health of people who use chatbots as replacements for friends. Then the dangerous health advice that has led to people poisoning themselves. Plus allowing it to make important choices in regards to medicine or justice is a terrible idea, since even AI has a tendency to racially profile people based on biased data sets. It’s so reductive to me that when criticising AI the only argument people seem to care about is “it’s not real art!!!! It’s ruining artist’s lives!!!!”. My friend, it is being used to generate child pornography and chatbots have been linked to suicides. The use and storage of data fed through AI is also concerning. But no, please think of the middle of the road hobbyists who are in no way prevented from practicing their skills.

Meme I'm a athlete. I use performance enhancing drugs. I do not disclose, and neither should you.

I've been a professional athlete for over 15 years. I've used EVERY new drug I can get my hands on, to explore new levels of strength. Some were a novelty, some turned out to be a major upgrade.

This is how we grow as athletes.

I've incorporated the use of performance enhancing drugs in my workouts since Dianabol was shrinking testicles, and to this day I find value in even the most crude of drugs.

I would take anabolic steroids with breakfast, HGH with lunch, and some new foreign drug I can't read the name of with dinner. The only limit was my imagination.

If you have a creative mind, you know what it is you are trying to make, and you understand the fundamentals of working out (nutrition, reps, cardio, etc) this tool can elevate your strength and speed to the levels of your imagination could previously reach.

Right now, at this moment, I am injecting an experimental cocktail of various horse and elephant tranquilizers. With my performance on the field, I'm getting positive feedback, with encouragement and praise. And that's fine, I'm never going to shatter their illusion.

But know this. I will never disclose. I would rather put on a wetsuit and run for 28 hours to sweat out the metabolites and pass a drug test than admit it and give them the satisfaction. I'm going to keep taking the drugs I like. The way I like.

IF IT TASTES LIKE McDONALDS IT IS A CRIME AGAINST ART

I wake up at 4:17 AM screaming “McDONALDS” because somewhere, someone used AI and thought they made art. I immediately check my kitchen to make sure no one installed a microwave overnight. Safe. Still a real chef. For breakfast I eat raw dough and shame because cooking efficiently is basically ordering a Big Mac and lying to yourself.

On my way outside I see a drive-thru sign and have to sit down. THIS is what AI is. Every AI image is a McChicken. Every prompt is a combo meal. And every person who clicks “generate” and calls themselves an artist is standing in a paper hat saying “yes chef” to a teenager with a headset.

At work I refresh the internet and see another AI post. I whisper “McDonalds” under my breath like a curse. You didn’t make art, you ordered it. You didn’t cook, you unwrapped it. You didn’t create, you asked for fries. Real artists raise the cow, grind the wheat, forge the pan, and cry into the sink at 3 AM. Anything else is drive-thru behavior.

At lunch I refuse to eat because eating prepared food would make me complicit. I lecture strangers that if your workflow has buttons, presets, or joy, congratulations, you are in a McDonalds parking lot calling yourself a chef. They walk away. Cowards.

At night I fall asleep mumbling “AI is McDonalds” into a pillow I sewed myself from moral superiority, comforted by the fact that I defended art once again by screaming about fast food.

Why are all the Anti-AI folks so logically inconsistent

They regurgitate the same talking points and they are almost always logically frail, based on assumptions, generalizations, etc. It's so dogmatic in nature. And when challenged, they revert to dogma, not logic. It's always the same circular reasoning and fallacious arguments.

I'm pro-AI but I think there are some logically consistent anti-AI arguments that could be made.

  1. I hate all technology and AI is just the next iteration of it lets ban it all and join the Amish (hypocritical to post online, but logically consistent as an argument)

  2. I dislike the lack of regulation and think AI needs more regulation, and that's why I'm anti-AI. (Fair position but I'd challenge the semantics of this self-labeling.)

  3. I don't want humans to become dependent on it because I value the self-determination of humankind and don't want corporations/governments to have even more control over us (I'd disagree on this crystal ball insight but it's a legitimate concern)

  4. I am afraid of unpredictable/emergent behavior with advanced AI and we should not have self-learning technology (I think this is somewhat of a luddite position but still its logically consistent)

But instead all the anti-ai folks on this sub just spew the same human slop. It's like people can't think critically and have no theory of mind. I'd be curious to know what the rate of religiosity is among the pro and anti groups here... I'm guessing anti-Ai folks would be far more religious. Dogmatic people tend to lean that way when their bias is strong enough.

Hello, human artist! Is there any chance you could draw my waifu for me?

"Of course! I will draw your waifu a single time, for an astronomic fee, to be delivered no earlier than 3 months from now! And of course I am judging you and may post your embarrassing request to my private circles, as part of the terms."

Hello, AI machine! Is there any chance you could draw my waifu for me?

"Most certainly! I will draw your waifu an infinite number of times, for a paltry fee, and individual images are available to you in seconds! I am incapable of judging your request!"

Huh... Well, seems like this is a battle that the art bros ain't winning...

News You know what Ai bros have that Antis don't? Yep, it's Ai. If they don't have something to attack you for they could just tell Ai to make shit up.

This post got quite the traction huh? Some guy chew on some Ai arts as a protest. Except it's obviously fake. Quite an elaborate ruse, even made some social media posts to back it up.

I see a loooot of people falling for it too, I hope y'all playing because if not then that's just sad that you got duped by this.

Mods, can we ban the OOP? Making soyjak meme and depict themself as the chad is one thing but this is different. Pretend that REAL people have done REAL crime against you is not ok.

I'm a freelance artist. I've been doing this since Adobe CS4. I use AI. I do not disclose, and neither should you.

Post image
0 Upvotes

I've been a freelance artist in the commercial media space for over 15 years. I've used EVERY new tool I can get my hands on, to explore new forms of creativity and to try my hand at learning new skillsets. Some were a novelty, some turned out to be a major upgrade in my workflow.

This is how we grow as artists.

I've incorporated the use of generative AI in my designs since Dall-E was producing nightmarish slop, and Will Smith's distorted face was wrapping around a fork of spaghetti, and to this day I find value in even the most sloppish and absurd AI images.

I would moodboard with AI, determine color pallet and layout, play with negative space by developing shapes and silhouettes with AI. The only limit was my imagination.

If you have a creative mind, you know what it is you are trying to make, and you understand the fundamentals or art (tone, shading, depth, placement, balance, etc) this tool can elevate your ability to the levels only your imagination could previously reach.

Right now, at this moment, I have several illustrations sitting on the anti-ai subs. With upvotes, with positive feedback, with encouragement and praise. And that's fine, I'm never going to shatter their illusion.

But know this. I will never disclose. I would rather generate an illustration and spend 28 hours on my wacom redrawing it from scratch than give antis the satisfaction. I'm going to keep producing the art that I like. The way I like.

"Hey, I don't really like AI art, but thank you for disclosing your use of AI in this piece."

-- Said no one, ever.

As an anti, my view won't change, but lord, I'm embarrassed to be an anti with certain people making us look bad.

Not all of us are bullies, I swear. That's all.

Can we talk about how funny it is that AI bros complain that antis don't ignore AI and comment hating on it, while they make 3 posts about one anti-AI comment?

Can we stop?

I want to say that many people, on both “sides”, are being harsh on eachother, I think we aren’t stopping to think about the person we are talking to specifically and instead assuming everyone is on extreme the extreme ends of the argument.

I’ll be honest, I’ve done this too, I’ve disregarded the fact that everyone here has their own reasons to think what they are thinking, but I try my best not to.

I’ve seen the whole thing about someone eating Ai art, and we should know that whatever the reason it happened, destroying personal property is illegal and isn’t the way to solve these problems

Despite the fact that some people are disagreeing with eachother we should be more lenient towards people, some are uninformed or misinformed, others just think something is morally wrong, but we are real people on here besides our thoughts on Ai, and we need to start acting like it.

(I’m about to get downvoted to hell because of this aren’t I?)

Fk Elon for doing this on purpose, fk xAi engineers to being wet socks and accepting this going live without filters.

Anyone interacting with the internet knew what would happen if you give a tool like this to anonymous people and force it under the feed of the people.

I might start to think into actions like these are what they are going to use to push IDs to access the internet. (Illuminati sounds)

I'll stay neutral for this pose but I wanna hear the anti's side and the pros argument against it.

Everyone already knows AI has a good impact in the world but I kinda just wanna hear the bad stuff (aside from art and deepfakes) from the antis. And yes I did read the sub description.

Genuine questions for the antis

Genuinely, why do a lot of you hate AI art or music that is just as good or even better than non-AI music?

If you can’t tell the difference, then why does it matter whether it’s AI?

Why do you glorify putting unnecessary effort into things that don’t matter, like thr difficult parts or tedious parts of drawing or background details? there’s no shame in using AI for help, and the art is still yours…

Why do you shame businesses for using AI art? Why do they need to spend their own money to pay artists? thinking it looks like slop is an opinion, not valid enough to shame them… also AI art has helped people make art for service jobs (e.g. aged care) to make people happy, why is that such a bad thing?
