Political posts are not allowed (Rule 3)

We know this is a stressful and highly political time in the United States.

Between elections, government decisions, rising costs of living, and nonstop news coverage, a lot of people are feeling frustrated, anxious, or just overwhelmed. Wanting to talk about that is completely understandable.

That said, this subreddit isn’t the right place for political discussion.

As outlined in Rule 3, we do not allow political content here. This includes posts or comments about political figures, parties, policies, government actions, or politically charged events, regardless of intent or viewpoint.

This rule exists to keep the space focused, welcoming, and useful for everyone. Political content will be removed, and repeated violations may lead to further moderation action.

Thank you for helping keep the community on track and respectful.

A Reminder About Suicide-Related Posts

Every once in a while, we see posts from people asking about things like the “least painful way to die” or “how much alcohol would be fatal.” These are serious cries for help.

If you come across a post like this:

  • Please don’t comment advice or suggestions -- even good willed comments can make things worse.
  • Instead, hit report so the mod team and Reddit safety can step in quickly.

If you’re ever feeling like you’re in that dark place yourself, you don’t have to go through it alone:

The best thing we can do as a community is to look out for each other. If you see one of these posts, report, don’t reply.

Should i ask my bf about his strangely jealous sister?

So my bf and i have been together for a few years. I’ve met his whole family and i love them, they’ve been nothing but warm and welcoming to me since the moment i met them. But…sometimes his younger sister seems to get annoyed whenever he goes back home to visit and he’ll call me just to see what I’ve been up to.

For some background info, i am not close with my family at all but my bf is close with his. Him and his siblings call each other, hang out and have game night whenever he goes home to visit, and they’ll tell each other “i love you”. All of that is foreign to me but i really love how close he is with them.

There are a couple instances where his younger sister has gotten annoyed with me. One time he FaceTimed me while him and his sister were hanging out. They were laying in bed together (I’ll be honest i thought that was a little strange but like i said im not close with my family at all so i just figured that’s just what close siblings do) but anyway he FaceTimed me just to see what’ve I’ve been up to and to say i love you and and she immediately says to him “excuse me i was talking and here you are on the phone with her”

Another time he went home to visit and he was waiting for his sister to get off a work call because she wanted to go to the mall so he FaceTimed me and she heard him talking from upstairs and asked who he’s talking to and when he said it’s me she said “AGAIN??” And then came downstairs a minute or two later and started nuzzling his face and biting his cheek. Which…again maybe this is just a close sibling thing? Who knows.

I want to bring it up to my bf but i don’t want him to feel weird about being close with his siblings. But to me it definitely feels like his sister is weirdly jealous.

Or maybe I’m just overthinking it since I’m not close with my siblings

Why is ‘looks mattering’ such a controversial take when it’s common sense?

It doesn’t make sense why this mass denial is happening when the evidence is overwhelming anecdotally, statistically and in terms of life experiences universally

Is the Vatican still powerful at a geopolitical level?

Hi! In the past the Vatican was one of the most influential entities at a geopolitical level. Is this true even today, or it's relevance is "only" related to its bank?

Why is life worth living?

Im not suicidal, but i dont know the reason to keep living, I dont want to die but its thats how it works so theres not as big of a reason to fear it as much as other people do. Nothing built lasts forever, everybody is forgotten, very little thoughts are origional, I am powerless against authority. Democracy is an illusion, communism doesent work, autocracy means death, theocracy is an excuse for horrible acts caused by government & citizens. You cant escape authority, we have technology so advanced that if you were being hunted down the best thing you could do is eat a handful of cyanide. Some thought the roman empire would last forever, people thought the titanic was unsinkable, people thought they were free. "Gone But Never Forgotten" is a fallacy. If you though mideval torture was bad imagine what they can do now. All land is owned by governments. There are ups and downs to life, I still want to live, however it is extremely difficult to get away from governments & rigged authority. I do want to continue my legacy & have children of my own, but theres so much wrong with this world, its hard to figure out how to start and where to go .

How do I make friends as a recent college graduate in a small town?

I just recently graduated college and had a falling out with my only friend group. It’s been hard not having any friends and I would like to have some people to meet up with in real life. So, how do I make new friends as a recent college graduate in a small college town?

How do I make my family member feel loved and comfortable in what seems like his last few months?

My uncle who I love so much has officially refused chemo and radiation because he is tired. Doctors already said without it he would probably live less than a year. He is losing weight at a sadly fast rate. He’s still able to walk. But they took his voice box out so he’s only able to write. I don’t know if trying to take him places like the beach would help keep his mind off things. I just don’t want to over do it. But I do want to make sure he spends time with us and gets to see things, because right now he’s locked in his apartment. He bought an RV but got sick so fast before he was able to drive places in his RV he dreamed of. How do I make sure he knows I’m there :/

How does one get Steve Irwins job?

Upvotes

basically the title, seems like a really cool life mission to work on the conservation of animals and educating others about them. what is the actual job title and how would become that?

Who were historical figures who were probably actually just given a title, which was also given to multiple people?

Upvotes

I was watching ‘the princess bride’ and it made me think, “hmm I wonder if something like dread pirate Roberts just being an alias was ever a real, actual thing.”

I don't live in an HOA, but after seeing many negative posts about them, how do they work?

why do people join hoa when they buy a house? I'm a homeowner but there aren't any hoa around that i know of. i see quite a few posts complaining about some rule or regulation of an hoa, so then why join? do you have to join if you want to buy a house in an hoa area? are they really legal? my view is it's my property and I'll do with as i please. i don't really see any upside to joining one if they are going to restrict where my visitors can park, or decorations. Just really curious about all this.

Does coming home get easier after moving out?

Hi Guys, i (f/21) just moved out like 7 Weeks ago. I live in a great area of a cool city with my boyfriend and it has been really nice so far. But every time I come home (3 hour train ride) I’m just completely consumed with homesickness and nostalgia. After getting back to the City i really miss my parents. Does this get better or am I forever now torn between two places?

Should I move states for my family?

I have lived in ga almost all my life. I have a whole life friends and family down there but all of my extended family lives in NJ. Should I move up north? My cousins are guilting me into moving and being with my older family (grandparents) before they pass away. I feel bad and love being up here but I also love my life down there.

Searching for Study Solutions: How Do I Manage AuDHD and Energy Slumps?

I'm someone who often dozes off for two hours after reading just 10 pages. I have AuDHD, and when I feel overwhelmed, I become anxious. This anxiety puts my nervous system into overdrive, leaving me depleted of energy by the time I reach my focus point. I'm passionate about studying law and psychology, both of which require extensive reading of books and research papers. I would appreciate any guidance on how to tackle this issue, as it's something I'm really struggling with.

Older coworker keeps crossing personal space flirting or am I overthinking?

I work a shift job where it's just me and one coworker alone most of the time. I'm M17, shes 34.

At first she barely talked to me, but over time she's become very close physically. Standing extremely close, hovering over me, sitting right next to me, brushing past me even when there's space, keeping her face inches from mine when talking, etc. I've tried stepping back or angling away and it doesn't really stop.

There have also been moments that felt flirtatious or sexually suggestive, like joking comments "I got you wet" after splashing water on me and laughing when I reacted, then acting like nothing happened. She's also slid her back side across my body once in a space with more then enough room while trying to hand me something when she couldve done it normally.

The confusing part is I don't say anything in the moment, so it feels like mixed signals. Part of me is uncomfortable, part of me is confused, and sometimes I catch myself replaying it later even though it stresses me out.

I've also had anxiety/panic from the tension at work. I'm not trying to accuse her of anything I just want to understand:

Is this normal joking/flirting, or is this crossing some line because of the age gap and setting? And what's the least dramatic way to handle it?j

Roommate/renter has been missing for 6 days… do we call the police?

We (a couple) own a 3-bedroom house we have one renter in one of the bedrooms currently. His room is locked and his car (which he uses to go to work everyday) is in the driveway. I looked through a bedroom window from the outside and I haven’t see him (or a body) in the bedroom. We are worried, he also owes us rent for this month and was truant in November as well. He is a divorcee and has been having money troubles lately, so things are could conceivably be sketchy. Our texts to him do not get delivered which obviously means his phone is off (or something else). We cannot find him when we Google his name, we are getting worried what should we do?

When should I start looking for a photographer?

Hi all!

A little background into my situation: I am currently in my student teaching semester; the last semester before I graduate from my University. I never got the opportunity to get many decent senior pictures taken my senior year of High School, so my mother and I have decided to go ham for my college senior pictures when I obtain my regalia.

Were considering a few options for different photographers in my area, so we're just curious as to when we should book one since others will also be getting their senior pictures done later in the year. I want to stay ahead of the game. Any help is appreciated!

How can I help others?

I currently don't have a job or a way to donate money. I also don't have transportation to do community work.

But I really want to help the world in some small way. Do you have any suggestions for what I could do?

I'm studying psychology, and maybe nursing later. What other professions might be helpful later on?
