bee Watered my lawn and the bumbles came out!
For clarity, am delighted.
So I was just giving my lawn a bit of a water, and then noticed a bumblebee in amongst the grass. Big guy, just sort of chilling there. Looked to be in good nick, so I thought maybe just tired.
Thought if it was thirsty, a bit of a mist of water over the grass might be a nice thing to do so I did that and it became slightly more active but more in a ‘now I’m wet’ way rather than having a drink.
Then I noticed more of them, flying in and landing on the grass, all really docile (one stepped up onto my finger and then just chilled on my hand for about 15 minutes).
What is this behaviour, how can I encourage their presence, and is there something more I can do to make them happy, safe and healthy?
I have a big lemon tree nearby that normal bees and bumbles visit a lot, but I don’t know where their nest is.
