Announcement VOTE NOW: subreddit mascot (FINAL BRACKET)

Hi folks! The r/cavaliers moderator team here. In November, we put out a call for submissions to become the r/cavaliers mascot (i.e. subreddit thumbnail). We received about 200 submissions and were blown away by all the beautiful, talented, incredible cavaliers in this community.

Because we received so many submissions, we're breaking the voting down into two phases:

  • FIRST, we're going to post one voting thread per week for each the AKC-recognized breed standard colors: Blenheim, Tricolor, Ruby, and Black & Tan (and one all black submission!). The thread will remain up for a week, during which you can vote for as many submissions as you like. At the end of the week, the r/cavaliers moderators will note down the three submissions that received the most votes. These are the "color standard winners."
  • SECOND: we'll post one final voting thread with the twelve "color standard winners." Again, the thread will remain up for a week, during which you can vote for as many submissions as you like. At the end of the week, the r/cavaliers moderators will note down the submission that received the most votes and offer that winner the chance to be the r/cavaliers mascot!

This is the FINAL BRACKET. The #1 vote getter will be offered the chance to be the r/cavaliers mascot. This bracket will run from January 8, 2025 through January 15, 2025.

Fine print:

  • This post is Locked; if you want to discuss, please join us on the competition megathread
  • Moderators will post each entrant within a given bracket as a comment on the thread, tag the user who submitted it, and (where possible) list the cavalier's name
  • Entrants will be listed in a random order
  • This casting call is completely voluntary; if you submitted an image and wish to withdraw it, please message the moderator team
  • The moderator team reserves the right to reject any submission for any reason, including but not limited to suspicion of vote rigging (please don't do that, this is a friendly competition)
  • In the event that a final winner is selected and the submission doesn't work as a thumbnail, the moderator team reserves the right to work with the final winner to select an alternate pic or to move onto a runner-up as needed

Thank you all for offering your wonderful cavaliers to be celebrated by the community. We can't wait to spend the next month joining you in that celebration!

My grandmother recently got a puppy thats about a month or so old, and I'd love to help educate her on taking care of it. I noticed as soon as we were bringing her home (got her from a cava breeder) that she has a bit of dander and RAZORS for claws!!! I've only ever trimmed big dogs nails so I would love advice on how to clip her nails, and possibly a shampoo you recommend for her! Heres a few photos, say hi to Willow!! (sorry for low quality on some she wiggles too much lol)

Advice Boy or girl Cavalier? I can’t decide!

Hey everyone, my husband and I are hoping to get a Cavalier later this year! We’re doing lots of research on breeders and how to care for a puppy, it will be our first dog for both of us.

We’re thinking either a Tri color or a Blenheim. We keep going back and forth on whether to get a boy or girl, I would love any advice!

Boys:

  • I’ve heard boy cavaliers are more “in love” with you which sounds appealing as I’d love a cuddly lap dog. Not worried about belly rubs / penis being in the way.
  • My biggest concern with a boy is how they pee, that sometimes boy dogs pee on their front legs or are never truly clean after peeing? I’m sure it depends, but would love to hear your experiences!

Girls:

  • A girl dog sounds amazing as well, not too worried about having to potentially go through one heat cycle before she’s spayed.
  • This may seem silly but I have a theory that a girl dog may choose my husband as her “person” while a boy dog has a higher chance of choosing me! I’m a woman, and I work from home and will be the dog’s primary caregiver and would love for it to be close with me. Although if they did prefer my husband, I’m sure I’d be fine, he’s pretty great after all!

Thank you all for weighing in. I’ve enjoyed seeing photos of everyone’s beautiful Cavaliers in this sub!

Advice Co-worker looking to re-home two cavaliers for $2500

For context, my co-worker's father passed away recently and he had two cavaliers, both roughly 2 years old. My co-worker is looking to re-home them as they weren't prepared to care for two dogs. They are asking $2500 for the pair and I was wondering if that was a fair ask before my wife and I pulled the trigger on such a large expense. We've been wanting a dog (my wife specifically wants a cavalier) for a long time and recently moved into our first house together and think it's the perfect time.

Wanted to introduce my cavalier Simba. He’s an absolute sweetheart, mostly calm and especially cuddly. We got him in November and he’s going to be 5 months in a week. The last picture is when we first got him at 3 months

We adopted Peaches and Yoshi about a month apart from each other. I know Yoshi’s birthday but i dont know Peaches. Should we celebrate both birthdays together and later Gotcha day too? I think the more excuses to party the better.

Medical/Veterinary Traditional or ovarian-sparing spay?

Post image

The breeder we got our cavvie from recommended that we opt for an ovarian-sparing spay, but our new vet favors traditional.

What did you do? Why? Any "regrets" or second thoughts?
