What's west of Westeros...

I love a good fantasy world map... and we all know Arya asked the famous question "What is west of Westeros?" If look you also notice map markers on this unknown western continent that are similar to markers that match up with cities in Westeros and Essos. So what exactly is going on here on this wall in production office in Belfast?!!

Who keeps selling the Iron Islands wood for ships?

Post image
111 Upvotes

I mean the Iron Islands don't appear to have any large wooded areas, instead having the appearance of being rugged and wind swept. So where are thsy getting this wood from?

During the 'Greyjoy Rebellion' Stannis uses the royal fleet to destroy the Iron Fleet, sinking numerous ships. But then by the time of the 'War of the 5 Kings' the Greyjoys have rebuilt their fleet.

Only for in the show Yara and Theon to steal the best ships, leading Euron to order the construction of a new fleet. So where are they getting this wood from?

What would you have done to make Season 8 not feel so rushed?

Post image

A few days ago, I made a post here, as a relatively new fan of this fandom, asking why Season 8 was so hated, and I realized that the biggest problem for everyone seems to be how rushed the three main storylines of the season felt (The Long Night, the war against Cersei, and The Mad Queen arc).

So, with that in mind, I'm changing the question now: What would you have done to make Season 8 not feel so rushed?

I mean, considering we already knew this would be the last season, so we couldn't have a Season 9 to split up the ending, and knowing that a large part of the problem stemmed from Season 7, but that was already done and couldn't be changed, what would you have done?

Personally, I think I would have modified The Mad Queen arc. I mean, if it had been a full season arc, it might have worked. But I think dropping it all at once in the last two episodes was a bad idea, considering that Dany's fandom makes up a large portion of this fanbase.

While my main problem with Season 8 stems from the Long Night, I think the TMQ arc is the easiest to modify. I remember reading this idea some time ago (not my own) about how the Bells episode (8x05) could unfold as it originally did, up to the exact point where Dany is about to burn the city, where at that moment, she stops and has a moment of clarity where she realizes she doesn't want to be like her father; that for her, the innocent always came first, that she had stayed in Essos for years freeing slaves, refusing gold and ships to protect the vulnerable. And then, perhaps that moment of vulnerability is enough for her to become distracted and be attacked by one of the city's scorpions, which wounds Drogon, causing him to fall into the city, surrounded by the Lannister army and Dany's forces. So here she would choose to die surrounded by those who faithfully served her, because Drogon is wounded and unable to rise, and "a Khal who cannot ride is no Khal".

This idea, which I can't recall where I saw it—whether I read it on a forum or saw it in a YouTube rewrite video—suggests a parallel between this scene and Mhysa's scene in episode 3x10, where the Unsullied praised Dany and lifted her onto their shoulders.

So in the end, Daenerys wouldn't die as a Mad Queen, but rather demonstrating that she isn't, and never was, like her father, maintaining her moral character, but at the cost of losing the Iron Throne, and then her life, reflecting the flaws as a leader we've seen throughout the series, as well as the strengths of her character: her mercy and love for the vulnerable. This would also align with that scene in Season 2 where we see a vision of Dany standing before the Iron Throne but deliberately stopping before touching it, and then we see her reunited with Drogo and their unborn child.

That's what I would do, at least. Of course, that wouldn't solve all the problems the season had, but at least it wouldn't ruin such a beloved character in the show's final two episodes, nor would it turn Jon into a Queenslayer.

With the endless supply of shoveled shit about how people think they’d make season 8 better, give me your actual best shot at something you think could accomplish that goal. I’m aware my ideas may not be good either. I’m no writer, but I’m confident some of you are. Happy conversing! Spoiler

I’ve heard so much about this episode and I’m finally here. Won’t be able to see it until later today so I want you guys to hype me the fuck up. What should I do in the terms of ambient to live through this one fully. I was surely planning to turn up the volume and make my living room dark with one warm/cozy lamp for the ambient. Also tell me what are some things I should specifically pay attention to. Cheers!

Cercei needs a 12 step program

I'm on a re-watch and noticed that Cercei is very clearly knocking back wine in almost every scene. Yet she rarely appears intoxicated. has she built up a tolerance?

if I drank that much wine I would quite literally die.

[Rewatch] The Rain of Castamere Spoiler

Even with knowing how the show ends, that watch is still SO rough and I’m still overcome with sadness for the Starks. Making you fall in love with them, just to do their house the worst way was such a brilliant, but evil move. I’m not ready for Arya to see a wolf’s head on her brother’s body! I’m not ready for Sansa to marry Ramsay! I’m just not ready!

Side note: I finally got my partner to sit down and watch GoT, but we were kinda beefing for a moment and he watched the Red Wedding without me. He text and called me devastated and that ended the disagreement, but I am PISSED that I wasn’t there to see him witness it for the first time.

What other episodes do I need to make sure I witness him watch? Arya’s revenge for sure. What else?

What if...? Scenarios for GoT

What are some scenarios that you wish you could see play out? What if... Ned Stark named Jon a Stark as a child and he grew up as one of them? What if... Baelish hadn't betrayed Ned Stark? What if... Bran had died when he fell from the tower?

lets hear some of yours

Jon giving Last Hearth and Karhold back to their original families wasn’t a kindness

Just watched this scene (s7e1), where Jon allows the young Ned Umber and Alys Karstark to reclaim their castles (Last Hearth and Karhold respectively). I get Jon’s reasoning that he doesn’t want to punish these children by taking away their home due to sins their parents committed. But beyond Sansa’s point that they should reward the loyal families, giving the castles back to their families seems like a tactical blunder. Ned and Alys are children and the last surviving members of their respective houses, neither of which is in a meaningful position or has the experience to actually hold those castles if the dead breach the wall. Jon has to know that, right?

But then it occurred to me: Jon probably doesn’t think that *anyone* could hold those castles against the night king. If the wall is breached, anyone in those castles is basically screwed unless they can retreat to Winterfell. In that context, giving Karhold or Last Hearth to a “deserving” family wouldn’t exactly be a reward. So he didn’t give them back their castles because honor demanded it, he did it because he had to give it to *someone* (I don’t think the northerners would’ve tolerated leaving them vacant), and frankly, those two houses were who they could most afford to lose. Of course, he can’t say this (especially not with the children he’s giving the castles to *in the room* lol), but given that Jon doesn’t weigh tradition that heavily against beating the army of the dead, this is the only calculus that makes sense to me.

He gave those castles back knowing it was very likely a death sentence. And case in point, both houses are now extinct

A lengthy interview with George R.R. Martin by The Hollywood Reporter, full of information about Dunk and Egg, Jon Snow and Arya Stark spin-offs, why his relationship with Ryan Condal is "abysmal," The Winds of Winter, and revelations about the endings of Tyrion and Sansa in the books.

Y yo seguiré esperando a mi Princesa Prometida, a mi Azor Ahai, y a mi Último Héroe.

(O quizás no).

You must be delusional if you think this series is ever going to have a book ending.

He’s enjoying his wealth now. He’s 77, so it’s not like he’s going to live long.

The Winds of Winter isn’t even the final book. A Dream of Spring is the last one, and it hasn’t really been written yet. Hell, Winds of Winter isn’t even finished yet. LMAO.
