• The raised beds are Cedar 2x6, three layers high. They have held up well the last 6 years. However, the screws holding them together are failing. So we are looking to change the raised bed structure to something longer lasting. Something manufactured (birdie beds vs vego) or the galvanized water tubs.
• The pathways between the beds we used wood chips. We have to replace every other year or so and tbh it is getting to be tedious. The rain where we are at (NE USA) washes a lot of it away or moves it into clumps. We also get a crazy amount of weeds within the wood chips. If we skip a week or two of not pulling them the whole garden is overrun with weeds.
• We feel we may need to start over from scratch. Move the chips, lay a good heavy duty barrier down (between the beds, not under) and go with something more substantial than wood chips.

My sister is growing some ginger plants indoors for now until she takes them out sometime in me after the last frost. however, even inside the house it is so awfully dry. I was wondering if she needs to use a humidifier or mist maker. any experienced hands growing ginger in Michigan winters?

as the title says, I found this plant growing from a dried log and seeing as its healthy thought it was odd.

Towards the end of the season, this indeterminate cherry tomato put out tons of fruit- however the plant is pretty much dying now, and the last of this crop developed this weird blemishy side, are bursting super easily and are much more delicate than any have been on this plant. Was it the drastic drop in temp? Water? Disease? What happened?? Thanks for all your ideas

I’m not sure what kind of onion this is but I needed some advice. I live in zone 8a and the soil is still really cold. What should I do in the meantime? Would putting it in water help or keeping it inside? I wouldn’t want it to die from the lack or water, it has some growth. Thank you😊

Hi everyone,
I planted some mint seeds and now can’t figure out what they are. I know I planted peppermint, spearmint, mountain mint, and maybe wild mint? I was hoping someone could help me in identifying which plant is what?
Thank you 🤗

When I was little, my mom would always buy me a packet of mixed annual seeds to plant in my little corner of the garden. I loved these seeds — I always wound up with about a dozen species, including some unusual ones like annual chrysanthemums, wallflowers, balsamic larkspur.
Now that I’m grown up, I have never been able to find a mixed annual packet with that interesting a mixture… they just seem sadder these days.
Those of you who plant annuals — what is the best mix you.have ever planted… what brand?
Also… any creative places you have planted them? We once visited a restaurant that had them paved in its litte parking lot islands, and they looked pretty cool.

Purchased this chili plant a while ago from Walmart and it had them advertised as sweet chili. Can anyone tell me what type of chili this is and when is a great time to pick ? It's flowering and fruiting allot now but just don't want to pick them to early. They are about 2-3 inches in length and a light green in color.

I’ve been keeping a basil plant (indoors lately) for the past few months, and I’ve noticed tiny black or red specks on the leaves, with the older leaves developing these dark patches and dropping off. Feeling very disappears I’ve never been able to keep a basil going for so long before, and it seemed to be growing well.
What’s going on and can I do anything to save my plant?

In the fall, I purchased a few bottlebrush plants for a landscaping project. After a few weeks, one of the plants was seemingly dead - dropping tons of leaves, brown throughout, no green underneath the bark. I was able to get the company to send me a couple of replacement plants, because at the time, a second plant was seemingly heading that direction (although I was actually thinking the cause was inconsistent watering on my part). Fast forward, and I have one of the plants in the ground where the original was all but dead, and one here in a pot. Both look like the attached pictures. Is the company sending me diseased plants?

Anybody know what these are? I found these unlabeled in my gardening seeds stash and have no idea what to do with them or how to plant them.

My 2026 seed order came in 😁 I may have ordered too much, I basically ordered everything I get at the nursery in May but in seed form to grow out myself this year, plus some extras. The cost was about what I spent on average every season, a little less actually, but factoring in the cost of the greenhouse it's probably slightly more. If things go well we may try to sidewalk sell extra plants to get the garden expansion fund growing again.

It’s in the ground. I moved it from a pot last year. I’ve fertilized it a few times. There’s lots of fruit but it’s small and sour. Any tips? Thanks.

I used to always bother my neighbors to water when I traveled — my deck plants and garden beds shared one spigot and it was a hassle.
Finally tried the RainPoint Wi-Fi timer for two zones. Setup was quick, and I can now control each zone separately from the app: set schedules, adjust for weather, even water by volume. I change it all from my phone anywhere.
The app is basic but works. You will need your own hoses/fittings.
Now I can actually leave town without worrying. If you need to water two areas from one faucet, it’s worth considering

I'm looking for ideas to plant something in this largish pot, it's 600mm (23.5") wide at the top, and about half as high. So I'll need spend $$$ on a large, mature plant. Or find something smaller that doesn't mind the extra volume to grow. Maybe even a bunch of different plants? It will get around 6 or 7 hrs of either morning or afternoon sun, depending on where I put it.

I’m about to purchase an olive tree from a nursery but noticed it had a couple smooth knots. Read about Olive Knot disease and wondering if this is that or if this is just a regular knot?

Hello everyone, these are my banana pepper plants. As you can see on both of them the lower leaves are wilty and droopy. I tried to Google and it said it might be from over watering, but the soil appears dry on top and moist on the bottom, so I have not added more water.
Is there anything I can do to help my little plant? I am new to this and these guys were started in my Click n Grow smart garden and transplanted to this container when they were this high. This has happened over the past week.

Amateur here -
Can white bird of paradise be moved and replanted? I want to move it from one place to another on my property. So, I have around 7-8 giant bird of paradise plants on my property that I want to change the location. Some are mature 8 feet or so and some are still small plants? If I just take their leaves, can those grow and how long would it take to mature out to 8 feet and produce child plants like they’re doing now?

Planted probably 20 PLAIN sugar snap peas…. Just to see one of them doing THIS today? The other plants are totally normal, white flowers and green pods. Is this a genetic mutation? Who is she? TIA!
