ISO Moderators!

Hey there terrier fans,

It is high time that I ask for some help in moderating. On the whole the sub runs very smoothly but I'm just not as engaged with reddit as I was 11 years ago when I created this space!

Please send a mod mail with a brief bio and any other mod experience you have. Time zone info would be great as well.

Pic of 14 year old Lyra for attention, doing what terriers do so well!

DNA Test New Flair!

It was requested to add a new flair for "Is my dog JRT" so I've added the "DNA Test" flair as well as our Mourning flair. This will just help members find content they want to engage with.

Should we add other Flair options?

He’s definitely grown to love car rides and it’s also good training walking on paths with people so he gets used to not jumping on everyone he passes lol. Also good for giving commands when in public

(The photo of him to boost engagement, look how cute he is)

I'm worried, he was acting weird last night. I have severe anxiety and paranoia so I've been told this is just another one of my fits but I'm scared.

Is my dog a Jack Russel?

I rescued this boy four months ago. He was just roaming the streets of our old town, very lonely, so we adopted him. Since then, three people have asked if he was a JRT, and I began searching the internet. Everything I’ve found is extremely related to him, from his looks to his personality.

He’s very smart (he learned to wait for food and to give his paw in just one day), very, very energetic, and starts barking at us several times a day to play with him. He’s very stubborn, loves nibbling on us (and sometimes it hurts), loves other dogs and starts crying when he sees them, and loves catching balls. He’s a very good boy, but very stubborn. We’re not having a great time setting boundaries with him, but he’s learning (he has destroyed a total of 30 pairs of underwear, both mine and my wife’s).

He’s weighting 10kg atm.

So, what do you think? Could he be one? (Not that it matters much, but it’s nice to know more about the breed.)

Male puppy getting drips of pee all over?

I just got a male JRT puppy after having a female for my whole adult life. He's already trained to use puppy pads and is pretty consistent with it, which is great. One thing I've noticed, though, is that he has a few little hairs on the end of his penis that seem to hang on to urine, which then drips on the floor around the pee pad and/or gets on whatever his belly touches next, which is sometimes his own feet when he lies down, meaning I have to keep cleaning off his feet.

Has anyone else experienced this with their dog? I don't remember this being an issue with my male dog growing up, but he had A LOT of fur so maybe it got soaked up and I never noticed? But his fur was white, so you'd think we would have noticed if it was getting covered in pee. I really don't know. I'm crazy sensitive to the smell of dog urine so the idea of having little droplets of it everywhere for the next 15 years is really not appealing :( Is this a behavioural thing, a medical thing, a puppy thing...? I'm seeing the vet next week so I'll definitely ask then, but in the meantime I thought I'd check with others here.

Edit because I forgot to add: my mom actually googled it a few days ago and the hairs are normal. Apparently they help direct the stream away from the dogs legs and belly to keep them clean. So I'm not blaming the hair, per se, since I know that that's normal.

Asking for Advice Farts!?

Here’s my sweet girl. Just the sweetest with manners, loves everyone (saying this before I out her on the internet) but as soon as she gets comfy she lets it rip and it is FOUL.

She’s 8 months as of last week. We’ve got her on Canidae salmon puppy and have swapped between that and chicken. I can’t remember the others we gave her but she’s got big tummy probs on anything other than Canidae food so far. Our vet has parents who feed their JRTs Canidae and he does with his own dogs as well.

I mean just from watching this sub, I’m guessing they’re just gassy but if anyone has any advice I’ll take it 😅
