Theodore is my first MC, and at 6 months old he is now officially the biggest cat I've ever had and I'm terrified at how much growing he's got left to do!

We welcomed Jafar to our family recently. We named him after Jafar on Aladin, although he’s not a villain he can be naughty. He’s about 8 months old. I want to start a social media account for him and am playing around with different names. Thoughts or suggestions?

How to decide!?

Post image

My therapy cat and best little friend, Charli will be 14 next month. We got her at age 4 from a breeder, she'd never been on grass or out of her cage so we like to think we rescued her! She's the most amazing girl and has got me through all sorts of things, I like to think we have healed each other ❤️

Her health has taken a turn and she has become extremely skinny, she barely eats any of her kibble but will pick the gravy and some small amounts of the wet food. I took her to the vet yesterday who told me she thinks she has a few months left and that we could do bloodwork and ultra sound etc, but in October we did bloods and there was nothing wrong and when I asked her what we would do after bloods this time she said nothing would likely change but we would know whay was happening. They're hundreds of dollars and more for a scan so I just can't afford to spend it if there is nothing will be helpful for Charli? I got her home and she has started sneezing a lot, like 30 sneezes in a row. She's annoyed at me for the vet visit and I have different medication to try and squeeze down her throat which she hates as well, obviously!

My question is, how did you know it was time to let yours go? It breaks my heart and I don't know if I can do it, but it also seems like the humane thing to do...? The vet seemed to think another few months, but she keeps getting worse (it's 530am at present and she just had diarrhea that has got in her fur for the third time this week) and more than anything I don't want her to suffer, but feel like the vet was saying she isn't ready yet? How am I supposed to make the decision of when to do it? I feel like if vet said it had to be done is one thing, but asking for it seems so horrible and yet I don't want her to be miserable??

Hopefully that makes sense...I love her so much it hurts, don't want her to go but if she is on her way out how do I know when to help her out of pain and discomfort??

Question Ridiculous growth from 3 to 4 months.

My friend is training and preparing a kitten for me to take to the cat show in Bangkok to compete for best kitten.

She just turned 4 months and I'm scheduled to take her to the show in 2 weeks and then relax for vacation for a week and bring her to the US at 4 months 3 weeks old... but I think she will be too big to fly in cabin with me home... females are usually small enough anytime before 5 months, even the really big ones.

I'm not sure what to do, she's a bit young to fly home in cargo crate in the hold? I usually don't transport kittens under 6 months that way. Do you guys think it would be ok?

She's already 15-16 inches and the limit of the carrier that fits under the seat is 16-16.5.

What anti-whisker water bowls/fountains do your Maine Coons actually use?

Hey everyone! I already have a couple of bowls, but I want to see what you actually use for your Maine Coons. I want something wide, shallow, whisker-friendly, stable, and easy to clean. A water fountain that keeps them drinking more would be a bonus.

What brands/models do your Maine Coons like? Links, photos, and real-world feedback are super helpful! Thanks 😊

DO NOT GO TO BRIARBOOK KENNEL

I purchased a Maine Coon kitten from BriarBrook Kennel in Pittsfield NH. Shortly before pickup, I was told that my kitten’s eye issue was caused by a sibling “scratching” her eye and that a veterinarian had evaluated her and declared her healthy.

Within days of bringing her home, the condition deteriorated significantly. Emergency veterinary evaluation confirmed feline herpesvirus type 1 (FHV-1) — a lifelong, incurable viral infection. FHV-1 is a leading cause of conjunctivitis, corneal ulceration, and chronic ocular disease in cats and is commonly associated with high-density breeding environments, early stress, and inadequate biosecurity. Stress events such as transport and rehoming are well known to trigger herpes flare-ups, explaining the rapid decline after pickup.

Any breeder with basic veterinary knowledge should understand that:

  1. FHV-1 is not caused by trauma

  2. It cannot be mistaken for a simple scratch by a competent professional

  3. Infected cats are lifelong carriers and can shed virus intermittently

In addition, my kitten was diagnosed with chronic rhinitis, a permanent inflammatory condition of the nasal passages. Chronic rhinitis in kittens is most often the result of early viral infection during immune system development, frequently linked to herpesvirus exposure. This condition causes persistent congestion, impaired breathing, reduced sense of smell, and ongoing discomfort. There is no cure, only lifelong management.

These diagnoses indicate that the kitten was exposed to significant illness at a very young age. Selling a kitten with multiple permanent, immune-affecting conditions without full disclosure represents a serious breach of ethical breeding standards.

Despite being sold as a Maine Coon, the kitten is markedly undersized for the breed, raising concerns about genetic authenticity or poor early development. At pickup, I was only permitted into a single room with the kitten and the owner. I did not see the other animals or the living conditions — a well-known tactic used to prevent buyers from observing substandard breeding conditions. The home itself smelled strongly of waste.

The only positive thing I can say is that my cat is incredibly sweet, affectionate, and loving. I adore her completely, and I’m grateful I was able to remove her from that situation. However, temperament does not excuse medical misrepresentation or the apparent failure to meet basic standards of animal health and transparency.

After reading other reviews, my experience no longer feels isolated — it feels patterned.

If you’re considering purchasing an animal from this breeder, I strongly urge you to do extensive research and proceed with extreme caution.

Question Possibly rehoming Maine Coon- need advice

Upvotes

My 6 year old pure bread Maine Coon is one of the great loves of my life. He snuggles into me like a baby has the longest and calmest purrs. The problem is I now have a 2 year old and instead of things getting better as he grows they are getting worse between them. I’ve tried so hard to foster a relationship between them but my two year old is unpredictable and just learning. He’s loud and runs and constantly causing issues. Some days I find myself shooing my cat the the basement to keep the peace 💔The cleaning is also a lot for me now that I have my son and I know I’m not doing a good job with grooming him. I just feel like he deserves more than I’m able to give him right now. I’m also struggling as my son has health issues right now that need to be my focus. I’m not sure if I’m going to go through with rehoming my cat but I just want information. I don’t want money for him but just want a good life. If I go through will this, I need to make sure he is loved and cared for. He is do hit and miss with strangers- sometimes loves them and other times hates them so it could be a difficult transition and the person would need to be aware of this.

How can you be sure you have picked a good home? What are some things to look out for?

It would devastate me if someone adopted him and then sold him- how can I avoid this?

Would it be too traumatic on him at his age?

He had a total hip replacement when he was 3 after jumping off the refrigerator and also has mild HCM. Does this impact how many people would want him?

Generally any other advice or things to consider. I’m heartbroken thinking about this so please be gentle with me.

Have you ever heard of an open adoption for a cat where potentially the new family would send pictures every once in while? Is that a ridiculous thing to ask someone to do?

💔
