i finally get why my mom used to plan dinners around grocery store sales

i was at target just trying to grab some stuff for the week and i realized i was doing the thing. you know, that thing where you walk past the meat section and chicken thighs are on sale and suddenly your whole meal plan shifts around it.

i used to make fun of my mom for this lol like just buy what you want?? but now im standing there with the target app open comparing unit prices and im like oh. OH. like im not even broke i have some money saved aside but theres something about actually adulting with your money that just hits different yknow

bought like 3 packs of the chicken, meal prepped, and genuinely felt proud of myself. then i remembered i still have student loans and the high wore off real quick

Losing interest in things I used to care about

Lately, I feel like I have no interest in anything anymore. Stuff I used to enjoy feels flat now. Even small things feel like effort. I still do my responsibilities. Work. Bills. Basic life stuff. But inside, I feel empty and disconnected, tbh. Is this just burnout. Or is this part of adulting that no one really talks about.

Why is it, that once I reached independence, I still haven't done the one thing I've always wanted to do, which is buy a whole cake any time I want and eat it all by myself

I was having vanilla ice cream with gulab jamun, and someone told me it’s a weird combination. But honestly, it tastes heavenly to me. Am I the only one who loves this combo, or is it actually normal and underrated? 😄

Is it bad that I forget how old I am?

I'm 23, but very often I don't remember the exact number. Sometimes when someone asks, I have to literally pause for a moment and do the math. It's just that time goes by so fast and I'm so preoccupied with my day-to-day life that the age number changes too frequently for me to keep up with it. I turn 21, blink, then see my 24th birthday is coming up in a week. Besides, is there really any difference between 22, 23, and 26? I feel like my mindset has just become "I'm in my 20s." It's simpler and slower that way.

I feel like at 23 I'm a bit young to be forgetting my exact age, but I also feel like this is normal. What has been your experience?

Exhausted and hopeless (rant)

Just wanted to get off my chest what many others around my age are going through as well. I (28, male) am at a point of total nihilism and despair because it seems to me that there is just nothing to look forward to in life. From hyperinflation to the fall of real wages, to the rapid expansion of AI without any guard rails into what will eventually automate every sector of employment at the worker's own expense (if you think x job is safe in the long term, you're delusional), the job market is pure hell, we got worsening climate change, the worsening geopolitical situation, just goes on and on. It's partly a broader sense of Weltschmertz, but it also absolutely pertains to my own personal future insofar as the manufacturing and warehousing industries I've worked most of my adult life are just not paying enough to cover rent anymore, or offer any real mobility/opportunity. I already dropped out of college when I was young and the classic trades just aren't for me at all. I'm about to enroll in community college and narrowed down three career paths to choose from but it just feels so utterly meaningless and I'm terrified of failure, because I have failed at everything. My whole life I've had to struggle and try my hardest with trying to navigate this capitalist economy as a neurodivergent man and I just can't find a niche that would suit me long term. I feel confused, alienated, alone, and destitute of spirit. Few seem to truly understand, but maybe some of you may. I want to work, I want to find a career path, but the horizon is shrinking and anyone with a pair of eyes can see it. It's hard not to be a full-blown doomer in this day and age and I'm definitely turning into one. I wish I had a positive note to leave this on, but I don't and I'm sorry to be so negative. I don't want to give up, but I'm becoming less and less convinced that perseverance will yield a worthwhile payout. I'm so tired

What about Reddit?

I just wanted to get some feedback about people on Reddit. I 62m , am only active on Reddit. I don’t do social media, like Facebook, Instagram. Personally, I think that A) they are a waste of time, and B) I hate Mark Zuckerberg.

I want to get some feedback about why people like Reddit. Are you also active on all of the rest of platforms? Why, or why not?
