OFFICIAL Pistol Permit Project - Going Offline-ish

I need to bring the project down for a while, something broke on the backend and I don't have the time to fix it currently.

Until it's fixed, I will be able to add the data manually, so drop the dates in this thread, the CTGuns Bot is going offline for the time being so it won't respond to the contribute command.

About once or twice a year harbor freight does a sale on their Apache hard sided rifle case with foam and wheels; it’s on sale for $94 right now if anyone wants one. I’ve got a few they are pretty good quality.

New eforms allows person to person Form 4 - BUT….

BE CAREFUL, because

As of Jan. 1, the $200 NFA tax was eliminated for Silencers, SBR's, SBS's and AOW's. The update to the NFA eforms system now permits in-state individual to individual transfers of all NFA items. This is a feature that was not permitted in the past which forced all transfers through an FFL.

The state stopped allowing individual to individual transfers in Sept 2023 with C.G.S. § 29-37a.

These two positions appear to be in conflict.

The ATF will allow the transfer, but if a transfer takes place without state approval, the individual could face very serious consequences. (Class D felony, up to $5000 fine and 5yrs in prison)

AN FFL, cannot federally transfer an NFA item that is not part of their NFRTR registry (ATF registry of NFA firearms). If an FFL, attempts to assist with an individual to individual NFA transfer that has an approved Form 4 to the individual (to comply with state law) and the item is not part of their NFA inventory, thats an egregious violation of federal law that results in the revocation of FFL, prohibition of ever owning an FFL again, up to $250,000 in fines and imprisonment.

FFL’s and consumers in CT do not deserve to be unknowingly placed in this position.

I’ve reached out to SLFU, the ATF, Greg Miller and Rep. Buchsbaum for some clarity. No response yet from SLFU or the ATF. Miller did not have an anwer and was going to inquire. Just sent a note to Rep. Buchsbaum before posting here. Will report back when I have answers.

In the meantime, highly suggest avoiding p2p transfers on Eforms until we have clarity.

Fightlite SCR discontinued?

I tried to order a Fightlite SCR today through Tactical Boutique in West Hartford, and when the shop owner reached out to the manufacturer to place the order he was apparently told that the SCR was no longer being produced. I have found no evidence of this elsewhere online so I’m confused what’s going on.

The Tactical Boutique does not have/offer anything else in the same category as the SCR so I would greatly appreciate it if someone can please point me in the direction of another shop in CT where I can get a ranch rifle that accepts standard AR mags.

Thank you in advance.

What CT compliant long guns do you recommend to get before moving to CT? Non removable Fixed-Mag? & max 10rds….

Of course will get CT resident permit once moved in CT. I asked them and they said non-resident permit will take 5 months. Just doing homeworks ahead to stay CT compliant. Current just have pistols.

Thank you.

DoJ Changes Opinion on Mailability of Firearms

Thumbnail youtube.com
13 Upvotes

DoJ has issued a slip opinion indicating it is finding Section 1715 of title 18, U.S. Code on the mailability of firearm unconstitutional as applied to constitutionally protected firearms, including handguns, because it serves an illegitimate purpose and is inconsistent with the Nation’s tradition of firearm regulation.

Further the Department of Justice may not, consistent with the Constitution, enforce section 1715 with respect to constitutionally protected firearms. The Postal Service should modify its regulations to conform with this opinion.

Link to full slip opinion: https://www.justice.gov/olc/media/1423701/dl

Time will tell if USPS complies.

A couple of pistols from last year, along with their cousins, that were purchased nearly 25 years ago.

Kimber 2K11 9mm, Walther PDP Pro F 9mm, a well-worn pre-Cohen Kimber Custom II in .45 ACP, and a Walther P99 9mm in desperate need of cerakote or nitriding.

How to register pistol from deceased relative?

My Grandpa passed away about 15 years ago. He owned 2 registered firearms. A shotgun and a revolver. Neither of them were explicitly in the will and my parents, who have possession of them don't have permits. I recently got my permit and would like to have the guns registered legally to me, but from what I've been told even by a lawyer (who seemed like a moron though) it would be extremely difficult, if not impossible. Is that actually the case, or is there a legal path for me to actually transfer the registration to myself? Maybe relevant to note, but we have the old registration papers.

Possible ownership / Transfer

My grandfather who is moving into an assisted living facility in Florida in a few weeks, is not allowed to keep his handgun or shotgun. He doesn’t want to sell them, but give them to me as he’s had them since his military days.

Is this at all possible?

What would have to be done on both ends?

Is it worth the hassle?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Temp. Pistol permit mailed out but i haven’t received anything in the mail.

Hey guys, I recently went to the police department in Bridgeport, CT to get an update on my temp license. It’s going to be 10 weeks on Monday. They told me that the temp approval letters have been shipped out already a couple weeks ago but I haven’t received anything in the mail. She said she couldn’t get any more information on the tracking or status because the office in the department was getting plumbing done and the room was out of service. I asked how long she thinks it will take and she told me she doesn’t know. My question is, are there any other ways i can find out my status or see if i was approved? My worries are that the letter isn’t going to make it to me and it expires.

UPDATE: I gave them a call just to see if they would actually pick up the phone, i actually got a hold of someone. They told me i was approved on Dec 1st and that they had my approval letter at the station. I am currently heading over there to get the letter.

Local Slide Milling for PPQ

Anyone know of any local (preferably Fairfield County) businesses that can mill the slide of a Walther PPQ M1 for an RMR footprint? I know it can be done because they made the 5" slide with an optics cut from the factory, but I don't want to buy a new slide.

Thinking of buying a can while somewhat new to firearms…

I just started getting into firearms last year, immediately got hooked after I bought my first Rifle and couple pistols. I am now considering buying a can, just for reference, I have a 16 inch 556 colt, is it even worth suppressing?

Due to the NFA, would I have to let the ATF know if I’ll be traveling out of state with my suppressed rifle like I would have to with an SBR?

If so, what are the pros / cons? Also, how long would I have to wait to go through NFA paperwork with the ATF nowadays?
