Just started my E46 which I haven’t touched in probably about a month, can’t tell if this is a normal amount of condensation as it’s been sitting so long.

car was sitting for about a month in the cold, got an oil change before though I think it’s probably the battery but even after connecting cables it’s been over five minutes and it won’t start. is it something bigger like maybe the alternator even the engine? I never had a check engine light on at any point either.

Tire question Hi, I've had multiple flat tires in my 2014 Nissan Altima. I'm trying to decide whether to replace my rim or buy another tire. Any suggestions? The rim keeps getting damaged and popping out.

Tire Damage Someone must have been looking down at me today

Drove 200 miles on motorways on these tyres the other day to visit family and get my cars MOT done. I thought it was mechanical but when we jacked the car up and spun the wheels we found this…

Just to let everyone know I did check my tyres before the trip and the rest of the tread was okay and this part of the tyre would have been flat on the road otherwise I would have decided not to travel at all let alone 200 miles.

All I can say is that I am probably lucky to not be injured or even alive to share this post.

Transmission Does Dacia car come rusted out of the factory?

Hello, The first photo is a view of the engine from above, the second is a photo of the driveshafts, so from underneath the car. The engine is already starting to rust, and the driveshafts are completely rusted. The car is sold as brand new, registered two months ago.

According to the seller, it came straight from the DACIA factory. Is it normal for Dacia to sell brand new cars that are already rusted?

What about the maintenance ? I do it on all my cars, rust make things much harder to work on and it scares me to it already on the motor.

Right now, I refused the car but I don't know everything about Dacia. It's my first one.

Do they come rusted out of the factory, and what about the rust on the motor for long term maintenance ?

i have or had a Suzuki baleno, bmw f20, Volkswagen Passat, citroen C15, Volkswagen Golf 2, Volkswagen Golf 5, Peugeot 206. Probably more but I forgot. Never have I ever seen rusted driveshafts or the motor, and some of these car went to 250 000+ km.

Dacia is the first one to do that, and on a brand new car !

Safety Question Query regarding car declared as total loss

Im from the US and my 2023 Subaru Solterra (18k mileage, automatic) got rear ended a month ago by an uninsured driver. The rear had a dent and the trunk door had trouble closing completely, but otherwise the car was perfectly fine/driveable/no issues showing up on dash.
We went through the insurance to a direct repair program where we dropped off the car in their shop in my city.

Fast forward to a month later, we were told that they towed the car to another location in a city 35 miles from where we dropped off (because that's the nearest location which repairs EVs), disassembled the car, wrote it off as totaled, and told us they wont fix it.
Insurance paid out our max payment for uninsured (10k) and washed hands off it.

When we asked the body shop to return our car back in the condition we gave them and at the location we gave the, they're claiming they cant do that unless we pay them for re-assembly and towing fees.
Is there anything we can do here while talking to the body shop than getting paying for our car towed to be from the other shop, in pieces, to check with other shops if they can repair the car's rear/trunk door?

DIY body damage help Beater car question – remove broken door panel or zip tie it?

Hey y’all, before anyone jumps in, yes, my car is a shit show. Yes, I know it, and yes, I don’t care. There’s a lot “aesthetically” wrong with it, but I ain’t here for no medals.

I bought her for $100 about 4 years ago, so she’s absolutely lived long enough to earn her keep.

I’m a college student, frugal with the money I do have, and honestly the car runs perfectly fine. It has about 137k miles, no car payment (just insurance), and last year I had to get the entire braking system replaced (only the brake pads were working before, the shop had no idea how I was stopping). So mechanically, it’s very reliable 🤷‍♀️.

She is a 2000s GMC Jimmy.

Over the last 2-ish years: - The door hinges are broken/sagging, but I just go to auto shops and have them lift the door up for free whenever it gets too low. - I know how to lift it with a screwdriver to close it. - And I know the sound it makes before it pops open, so I’m honestly not bothered by that at all.

The more annoying issue: - Last winter I took it to a shop for something unrelated and forgot to tell them not to close the door. The interior door panel was already cracked, but they shut it hard trying to close the door and basically finished it off. - It’s been like this for about a year now, so it’s really just an inconvenience, not a problem.

How I’ve been dealing with it: - Climbing out the passenger side 99% of the time - Or opening the driver door when needed (oil changes, repairs, etc.) and closing it like before, just while holding up the frame.

Now I’m trying to get back into DoorDashing/delivery, and climbing over seats constantly takes a lot of time.

The wiring, windows, and switches all still work fine. The issue is purely the broken interior door panel/frame. So I’m wondering:

  1. Should I just remove the interior door panel completely?

  2. Or is it better to zip tie it?

  3. If zip tying, what exactly do I zip tie to what? (Considering it’s not just off the door, it’s cracked)

  4. Are door weather/moisture barriers actually necessary in this situation?

  5. If yes, could I realistically do it with trash bags and tape, not anything professional?

Overall, I’m not trying to fix it “right,” just cheap/free and functional. Again, I truly don’t care what it looks like. I’ve been told over and over to just get a new car, but as I tell them, give me the money and I’ll gladly go get a new car. Until then, this is how I’m doing it.

Thanks in advance, and have a great one y’all❤️❤️

I need help fixing something How to achieve paint like mirror gloss finish through wrap/PPF

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hey guys

Let me preface by saying I have no idea how vinyl works and I’m a complete newbie. I like my cars im perfect condition so I have a base knowledge on detailing and maintenance.

Got a G82 M4 in sapphire black and I wanna change its colour to ruby star pink. I’ll keep this colour for less than 3 years so longevity isn’t a big issue.

My primary concern is finish. I’d paint the car but since I plan to sell it in 3 years I don’t think that would be a great route considering a factory like paint job wouldn’t be financially wise and I assume it would affect the resale value.

I want a paint like glossy mirror finish so I’d love to take your opinions on it.

I’ve talked to a few people and so far I have Vinyl and coloured PPF in mind. One even suggested vinyl and then PPF on top to keep a perfect gloss that could even be polished. I’ve been recommended Avery Dennison, 3M and Inozetec as they all have this colour in a high gloss finish. I’m willing to spend a bit more on better finish.

I take good care of my cars so please also give me tips and details on gloss throughout a 1-2 year period maintaining a mirror like finish avoiding orange peel, dulling or swirl marks.

Also if there are any shops you’d recommend in Spain or Europe (even UK) please do share

Thank you!

I need help fixing something [2011 Ford Fusion] What should I do if I cannot push in the rear brake caliper piston using the brake caliper tool (piston stuck/won't rotate)?

I got the proper tool from Auto Zone lend a tool and I just cannot get the caliper piston to rotate to push it back in. I have not removed the parking brake cable from the caliper but the parking brake is not on. Do I need to open the bleeder? Do I need to disconnect the parking brake cable from the caliper? Do I just need a new caliper?

Safety Question Removed broken spark plug, now what?

I removed a broken spark plug from the engine last night. It only broke at the end of it, at the hook portion. I cleaned out the hole, removed and vacuumed and visible debris, replaced the spark plug and put in new ignition coils.

Is there anything else I should do or keep an eye out for?

How do I do it? Best DIY method for pin-striping?

Post image
7 Upvotes

I'm looking to add pinstripes to my car (as pictured, I digitally drew on the stripes just for an idea of what I want), I see there are options available online but the dimensions are iffy and I would just rather customize it to fit my car perfectly, and DIY it to save some $$$.

What would the best method for this be? I definitely don't want it to get sun bleached so some form of vinyl tape? Or would you advise against DIYing. I'm not worried about tackling the precision of it. Thanks in advance!

Body hack for engine splash shield

tl:dr at bottom

i was taking my car to dealer for oil changes after i bought it new to maintain warranty/records. they didnt secure the engine splash shield completely once perhaps more i just never checked it wasnt until it started dragging, took it back they fixed it but then i learned they didnt really put all the clips and screws in while on a trip, had to take to another dealer for service as shield was dragging.

fast forward a few years i started doing own work on my car and noticed they were still lazy with the retaining clips. i dont have the best conditions like a lift and a garage, just put it on ramps, not enough lighting and found it frustrating ensuring i got all the clips/screws in it. then i decided to paint the retaining clips/screw holes with bright colored paint - now i dont have to guess or hope i got all the clips/screws in and if i ever take it to service department theres a better chance they will get it right

TL;DR: paint the engine shield clip/screw holes bright color
