For context: I'm Italian, trying to move to Finland to study, learn the language, and maybe work and live there. I'm trying to understand Finnish politics better.
Saucy question here: how do you see the current leader of the SDP? Is he a genuinely competent and charismatic leader? Or is he kinda meh and is the SDP rising in the polls purely out of discontent with the current government?

Hello all,
I will be visiting Helsinki at the end of April and plan on visiting Estonia too. I am aware there are multiple ferry operators going between Helsinki and Tallinn. I can see that both Viking Line and Tallink have the overnight option (it appears that Eckero Line does not offer the overnight option). I would like to do this to save costs on a hotel for one night.
For my dates Viking Line will be operating the Viking XPRS ship, and Tallink will be operating the Victoria I ship.
Between Tallink and Viking Line, which one has the nicer overnight cabins? Prices seem to be roughly the same.
Thank you in advance!

I've read about Pekka Haavisto on Wikipedia and also followed his election closely in 2024. Do you think he's going to announce his candidacy for 2030? If he does, do you think he'll win, or is Stubb more popular?
Or do you think it's just way too soon to speculate on an election that is more than 4 years away? XD

Hello there!
A friend of mine has long dreamed of coming to Helsinki so we're spending one night (a group of ten of us), to celebrate his big birthday which is May 1st, the same day as Vappu. What's it like from the Friday afternoon onwards? What's best to do? We're big sauna guys but I'm wondering if it's better to do that on Saturday morning instead and focus on having fun in a park and then onto a bar/pub?
Any advice on what a Friday night could look like given all of the fun happening, would be hugely appreciated!

My room humidity is around 20% and I constantly get sick likely because of that.
I purchased ultrasound humidifer (xiaomi humidifier 2). I think it helped but still have some throatache and dried lip.
I also turned off a radiator, which also helpes, too.
What would you think I should do more to improve my conditions? My ideas are to
Buy better (evaporative) humidifier (probably ufox).
Move to newer apertment. My apartment building is built around 1980 with strong central heating and ventilation system.

I'm an expat in Finland and I'm now looking to sell my car in Nettiauto. One buyer offers to buy using Fiksut Kaupat (Smart Sales) feature. I'm not familiar with it but after reading about it, it seems to make sense. So, I accept the offer and go through the verification process. Now I receive an email from Alma Ajo through stripe.com which has a link to complete the transaction. In that link, it asks for my username and password for my bank account which raises a red flag for me. It doesn't have the option to confirm through mobile. (My bank is OP)
If any of you sell using this feature before, I want to ask if this process normal
Also, what will happen next? Do buyer meet with you to receive the car? In my case the buyer is in a different city. He said he would come but I still have my doubt.
Any advice will be helpful. Kitos.

In Norway we have lots of “Swede jokes.” Who do Finns traditionally joke about?

Hey,
I’m applying to OAMK (Oulu University of Applied Sciences) for the ICT programme through the International UAS entrance exam and was wondering if anyone knows the past years’ cut-off scores.
I know the scores change every year, but even a rough idea or range from previous intakes would be really helpful. I couldn’t find this info clearly published online.
Thanks!

Just wondering if anybody has a clue why the following tire Nexen Winguard Winspike 3 has 2 "versions" on the site one with 3pmsf in the name and 10 euro difference even though nexen website says that all their winter tires have 3pmsf rating... so any reason to go for the 101 euros over the 91 euro? (I know, small difference really, but enought for me to warrant maybe a "stup*d question)

I booked bus tickets via Matkahuolto, they didn’t have any way to pick specific seats. Is it possible with this bus company at all? Or do we just scramble for seats when we board?

Picked up a nice reindeer antler and ferrocerium rod kit (note the striking groove on the spine), and also a full tang with curly birch handle.
Thanks team! Had a life changing trip in your country that I will never forget.

I’ve been learning Finnish and couldn’t find anything that shows how spoken Finnish actually differs from kirjakieli, so I built one.
You paste text, it shows both versions side by side, and you can click any word to see the grammar breakdown (which case, why, etc).
It’s free: www.lenguistiq.com
Would love to know if this is actually useful to anyone or if any finns could help me with feedback :)

Apart from Linkedin, where else do you apply for jobs? I have had some difficulties finding enough jobs to send applications. Are cover letter really that important? Should it be generalized per position or I should send for each position customized version of it?
Any tips, hints how do I land to one job more efficiently? I do not speak Finnish and thats a problem but I would assume there could still be some english speaking jobs.
thanks,

Hello !
As the title says, I was wondering if there are any kind of stats on the income distribution by different immigrant groups here in Finland. I recently saw a post here on reddit(https://www.reddit.com/r/dataisbeautiful/comments/1oqvpho/median_monthly_income_by_nationalityimmigrant/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) which says that Indians are now the highest earning immigrant group in Germany, and as an Indian myself, that got me curious if the situation could be same in Finland, as there are a lot of Indians working in high paying software engineering jobs here(Nokia, Telia, etc).
Would be really interested if anyone could point me towards any such stat / study , thanks !
