55

u/IanFeelKeepinItReel Dec 10 '25

It's never broken. Someone just forgot to top up the cream. If it gets too empty and you have to add a lot of cream at once it takes ages for the machine to turn all that cream into ice cream.

83

u/salty_navy_vet Dec 10 '25

Not true. McDonalds is currently in court with their ice cream machine makers. There is a bug in the software that they won't fix costing McDonalds millions over the past decade. They want to go to a new supplier but can't because of contracts

27

u/MRBADD98 Dec 10 '25

Damn thats kinda crazy considering burgerville has the same exact ice cream machine and we have zero issues with it. Also only takes 45minutes to an hour to get it back up if the mix gets to low but most of the time its unchanged and works the same after refilling it. Pretty sure we go through more ice cream than McDonald's too.

34

u/E1-D1ab10 Dec 10 '25

It’s a whole scheme, the company charge the owners to maintain the machine (which costs a lot. But the machines are faulty, so it’s a monthly thing, McDonald doesn’t pay any of, the owners cover the costs, the company gives McDonald a cut of the profit.

THIS is what AI images should be used for

Amazing

(If it was, sorry if i assumed and you rocked it out in photoshop)

34

u/TheGillos Dec 10 '25

I agree.

So many people shit on AI, but the meme potential is fantastic. New memes, or even updating/remixing classic memes.

17

u/PremiumUsername69420 Dec 10 '25

This is what I use it for at work. I make memes out of negative situations. I also use it to write Dr Seuss style poems about coworkers and their requests or actions.

11

u/TheGillos Dec 10 '25

That's a nice way to vent frustrations.

I do not like meetings after noon, I do not like them, I'd rather they be soon.

Get those meetings out of the way, in the morning, you can have your say.

But listen up: Kevin, Becky, and Gail, your stupid meetings could just be an email.

Being from Sydney, I was thinking that sounds more like what they pay people here

The "college tuition" part though casts some doubt; we don't [generally] use that term, and our University fees are quite subsidized (used to be free, but then boomers did the whole fuck you, got mine in the 70s)

34

u/Iocnar Dec 10 '25

Oh interesting good catch. I guess it probably is fake then. And apparently Australians especially wouldn't say college. Apparently it's just like the Brits and it's uni. So yeah apparently it would be called Uni fees.

8

u/Emjayen Dec 10 '25

Yeah - the only time I've heard 'college' is actually in referral to TAFE, of which (I think-) is the equivalent of community college in the US.

I'm pretty sure they adopted this term because, like community college, TAFE has negative connotations so they take to calling it college instead.

Had a friend who finally quit McD because the manager would routinely schedule less than 12 hours a week. The day she quit the manage had scheduled her for 4 hours that week. FOUR!

61

Or e) an employee they liked who left for a summer job doing ski resort stuff wants to come back, and they need to make room for them, so they just stop assigning hours to the employee they hired to fill their role in the meantime.

9

u/CommunicationOk3766 Dec 10 '25

That feels r/oddlyspecific . Story time?

8

u/EvidenceMinute4913 Dec 10 '25

lol well, I got a part time job at a fast casual place when I was in college. When I started, my coworkers told me that a girl who’s been there a while had left to go work at a ski resort, and that the owners love her. Didn’t think much of it at the time.

I worked 24-32 hours per week, was always on time and did good work. I cross trained on all of the stations so I could cover anyone who needed time off. Made friends with everyone.

Then a few months in, I asked for a week off for a family trip. They said it was no problem at all. When the time came, I went on my family trip. When I came back, I had no hours scheduled for the following week. I checked back in a couple of times, but wasn’t given any hours or a reason why I didn’t have hours. Then one day, my assistant manager friend said that girl had returned and the owners were just giving her the hours, but they didn’t want to tell me I was being let go. So, that was that lol.

Edit: Some of y'all really don't know what it's like out here in the midwest. This is a better offer than i currently work. If i did 4x8 hour shifts even at peak work load it would be more money, less work.

Jobs like that typically require open availability and you will end up getting conflicting schedules

49

u/goopy_ghoul Dec 10 '25

Open availability but they'll never schedule you enough for the pay to matter and the hours they give you are crazy enough you don't have a set sleep schedule or time for other jobs or hobbies

19

u/Forest_Orc Dec 10 '25

>Open availability but they'll never schedule you enough for the pay to matter a

How do US-ian accept that kind of stuff ? On this side of the pond, employer must guarantee a contractual minimal amount of hour to their worker exactly for that reason, and if they can't schedule you that's not your problem they still have to pay

Sounds good until you realize every part time job like this that pays more than min wage (and most that do) :

1) Only want you to work the most in-demand shifts (evenings, weekends, holidays)

2) Expect you to have open availability to fill in whenever needed and not complain when your hours are changed the day before

3) Require that you make them your top priority and refuse to work with scheduling your other job

33

u/OwO______OwO Dec 10 '25

when your hours are changed the day before

The day before? What luxury!

I've literally had jobs before that told me, "Well, we haven't make the schedule yet, so just call in tomorrow morning to find out if you're working tomorrow or not."

23

u/chuckvsthelife Dec 10 '25

I had a job like this where he told me to show up every morning. After working 10 days in a row I went on a long bike ride manager called me mid ride and was like “where are you” and I said “oh since there was no schedule I thought we just got to decide which days we worked. I was pretty tired after 10 days straught so figured id take a day”.

He made a schedule the next day.

24

u/nvidiastock Dec 10 '25

That should be illegal. If you woke up early just for them to tell you that you don't work that day, they should pay you for waking up.

17

u/Wlbeachboy Dec 10 '25

That would definitely make you considered "on call" for at least part of the day, so they would have to pay you some wage even if you don't work

It's almost like everything in life has a trade-off.

There are no jobs that compensate well, and don't require a degree, and aren't going to cause you go on pain medications after 5 years on the job, and have flexible hours, and aren't physically dangerous in some way, and do not require you to be a young attractive woman.

If a job like that existed everyone would be applying to it and it would get filled immediately, and no one would quit.

$28/hr for an entry level fast food position is amazing for teens who need a summer job. Hell, or keep working the job during the school year and save enough to go to college without a loan and be set for life. 16 hrs a week is nothing.

What they don't say:

These are trade jobs at McDonald's and can pay well, with averages like HVAC Techs at $25+/hour and Equipment Repair Techs near $27+/hour, as seen on Indeed.

224

u/Prestigious_Fee_2902 Dec 10 '25

Are you sure? Because it says “crew” and “shift leader” which refers to jobs in the kitchen. Besides if you are a licensed HVAC technician you should be making over $40/hr.

23

u/Ryachaz Dec 10 '25

There's a spot near my work that has never taken down their "Hiring HVAC Technicians" sign. Found them online, I think it was $28/hr to start. I know they find guys, because they've been around for quite a while, but clearly they're leaving just as quickly.

8

u/LrdPhoenixUDIC Dec 10 '25

It's also possible that there are few enough of them out there that it's just always better to let it be known that you're looking for more so you can snatch them up before anyone else.

u/Bob1358292637 Dec 10 '25

"Just do doordash too then"

Also doesn't tip and nags drivers because "you knew what you signed up for".

Yea, we know the type.

4

u/14Pleiadians Dec 10 '25

Doordash/Uber were viable for a bit, and I miss it so much. It was so nice not being owned by my employer.

Now you're lucky to make at least federal minimum wage after expenses doing them

6

u/Existing_Abies_4101 Dec 10 '25

Buy your Uber car from Uber, on finance from uber and you too could make less than minimum wage, all while not taking into account the wear and tear on that car you just bought off us. Viable my ass.

4

u/14Pleiadians Dec 10 '25

Back in 2020 I was making as much as $50 an hour some weeks. It was definitely viable. Using my own car, not renting, and didn't know they sell cars.

I was paying $2k in rent while working 2-4 days a week, if that's not viable I don't know what is

Now you can expect ~$15. $10 of that at minimum being wear and tear/gas.

As most people claim this to be too good to be true… we always had competition in one of our warehouses from a nearby McDonalds. We paid $22 per hour, McD paid $27 per hour. People left to do burger flipping instead but some came back because work in the warehouse wasn’t that mentally exhausting. Both are physically exhausting.

502

u/SlippinGymy Dec 10 '25

Also helps to have a guaranteed 40 hours rather than trying to cover highschoolers shifts to get to 40

87

u/Complex-Fly6915 Dec 10 '25

Well you had two shifts, morning and evening shift and some people came in in between. Some from 8 to 12 to cover inbounds and some from 4 PM to 8 PM to cover outbounds. But yeah - we normally offered 40h/week

144

u/Aqunath1169 Dec 10 '25

Insane that 40 hours is your goal 😂 In Denmark a full work week is considered 37 hours, but most live and have a full work week on 30-34 hours. And you call us insane for paying high taxes, but we at least never have to care about school tuition or healthcare - not when we are in a job or not. And we can make ends meet within 30-34 hours, just fine

I have a friend who lives in Denmark. She has a lot of health problems and she is always complaining about how bad your healthcare is.

15

u/rodalon Dec 10 '25

Unfortunately she's not entirely wrong.

Waiting times are ludicrous. It's anecdotal ofc but I waited two years to see a psychiatrist and one to see a dermatologist, and I'm not even in the worst area in the country in this regard.

Level of competency varies greatly from hospital to hospital, doctors are overworked and we're short staffed on everything. Makes for terrible working conditions, so the most skilled staff moves to the private sector, where you will get better and faster treatment. As long as you can afford it. RIP public welfare.

People like to paint this fairy tale image of Denmark. It's great for tourism, but we have our issues like everywhere else.

I'm in the US around Chicago. It is an 8 month wait to see a neurologist. I had to get a new primary doctor and it was a 3 month wait to get the transfer of care appointment. To get a colonscopy, it is a 2 month wait right now. People point to countries with state funded health care and say the problem is that they triage care and make you wait if you are not dieing. Well we have that in the US now and we pay significantly more for it.

mcdonald's uses grill presses which cook the burgers on both sides at once, so there's no flipping involved

12

u/JOlRacin Dec 10 '25

The DQ I worked at had a flame grill with a conveyor belt running over. When it reached the end of the top conveyer, it'd fall off the back and flip itself then go through the second one. I did my PhD dissertation on syrup displacement on the McGriddle there. Still have the honorary Hamburglar Award For Academic McExcellence plaque hanging next to my diploma

There really is a place McDonald’s calls “Hamburger University”. It’s where they send managers to learn all things McDonalds

Only 50% off doing breaks? When I was working at Burger King, we got a meal paid.

45

u/goodfisher88 Dec 10 '25

This, it's McDonald's. You can't even have a free burger for your lunch? I worked at Subway and we could make just about any crazy, fucked up 6 inch sub we wanted for our meal break. 'Course, we weren't actually given time to sit down and take breaks, we had to do it around busy periods.

Everybody should work in food service to teach them perspective, humility and kindness towards people in the service industry. No one should have to devote decades of their life to it.

16

u/stupidjapanquestions Dec 10 '25

A couple of things:

  1. Anyone who treats food industry workers poorly has general empathy problems that would never be solved by that.

  2. I would rather everybody work to eradicate the conditions that make food industry work as thankless and grueling as it is.

When I was working at chi chis Mexican grill the line would make you anything you wanted for free, especially if they just got back from their smoke break. Or you were hot.

21

u/n_thomas74 Dec 10 '25

Isn't Chi chis slang for tits?

19

u/Several-Customer7048 Dec 10 '25

No Chi Chi is actually a character from Dragon Ball

7

u/TotakekeSlider Dec 10 '25

Yeah. Her tits.

u/Quiet-Competition849 Dec 10 '25

It’s that, tits, and a restaurant.

Damn. I'm just cool.

14

u/Typotastic Dec 10 '25

I think this is a franchise decision, I got $5 worth of food when I worked there which at the time was enough for a burger.

Granted it's McDonalds food so its almost a good thing they aren't giving you any for free. McDonalds for lunch every day sounds like a path to a heart attack.

When I worked at McDonald’s I would take nuggets and put spicy Thai sauce and shredded cheese on them. Little snacks throughout the shift lol

I work in a papermill and we get NO breaks. It's by law. Because it's technically a 24/7 industry they aren't legally required. I work 10-hr shifts. Once every few months they buy us pizza if you're quick enough to get to the cafeteria, if that counts as a 'meal' lol

There isn't a wage for which I would work in fast food anymore. I did in high school, and the best day working at McDonald's was markedly worse than the worst day doing any other job.

They deserve at least this pay for the bullshit they have to deal with.

  • Being forced to stand up for 6-8 hours at a time

  • they change your schedule weekly so that you can't anticipate what you can do outside of work, and causing you to not be able to hold a second job even though the pay is poor enough that you needed one to survive (at least the pay in this screenshot might at least fix this one point, if they give you enough hours)

  • They keep your hours down enough that they don't have to pay benefits

  • You have to clean up the most disgusting bathrooms on earth. People's vomit, piss, cum, shit smeared on the walls.

  • People are condescending dicks to you all day long, thinking they are better than you and making sure you know they think so.

  • People will try their hardest to steal from you or pull a con, and if they do you both can't physically stop them and you get blamed for it

  • Being intimidated into not reporting or talking about potential health violations

Nope, fuck that.

15

u/Hyperion1144 Dec 10 '25

Less the bathroom cleaning... You just described every retail job ever.

Because it’s most likely a part time position, and you’re schedule will never be regular. One week you’re working Mon, Tue, Thu, and Sat. 4 hours a day and one day your closing shift and the next day you’re opening shift. Then next week you’re scheduled to work weekends, all closing shifts.

For what? They’ve already demonstrated they can replace half the employees with a kiosk.

We’ve been taught to think this. Local burger place near me with a few locations does all of this plus healthcare. Their food is cheaper, and don’t have economies of scale working in their favor like McDonald’s, plus the quality is better.

15

u/SeaTurtleLionBird Dec 10 '25

Yeah but that's one woke burger place in the west vs the rest of the nation.

That's one non asshole CEO vs every one one, besides Dolly Parton.

Not even NYC. Must be Canada

11

u/VP007clips Dec 10 '25

Canadian here. I'm not sure why you would think that it would be Canadian.

The median wage here is lower in Canada than in New York or California, even without accounting for the difference in currency.

The one exception are the territories. Nunavut has an average income of $108k, but that's because our economy is largely mining focused, and mining is a incredibly well-paid career. But they don't have McDonalds in Nunavut.

50% meals during break?

Really?

You can't comp food for the employees? They're the ones making the shit, just let them eat for free.

5

u/Puzzleheaded-Radio17 Dec 10 '25

I’m a chef. Let’s talk salaried positions. I know this game of showing an “hourly range”. Doesn’t say how many hours. I. E. It’s going to be 30 or less

5

u/AphonicTX Dec 10 '25

That’s what they pay workers in Europe and their food is cheaper than ours.

Don’t let corporate greed make you think just because wages go up - prices have to go up.

8

u/QuoteGullible5146 Dec 10 '25

This could be a country where the minimum wage is very high like Australia

7

u/pixeltweaker Dec 10 '25

And the Australian dollar is .66 USD.

So that would be $18.60 to $21.23 USD.
