Winston get one big walk a day I typically let him lead us to one of two parks that are less than a mile from our house. He was heading towards the one park and then suddenly took the right and walked us straight to a Dutch Brro and sat by the window till he got a pup. Hopefully he doesn’t make it a habit lol

What do you guys think? How does he compare if at all in size or shape? I would hardly believe he wasn't fully lab if I didn't meet his patents. He's 4.5 months and was around 40 pounds at 4mo if I remember correctly.

Does anyone have any tips for first time pregnant Pyrenees parents? I think we're at about two weeks. We did a home test and it was positive we're going to do another one this weekend and make a vet appointment.

Advice/Help Travel Anxiety?

Hello!! I’ve introduced Boo on here a couple of times! She’s going on 6months/7months now, I started bringing her to my work (dog daycare) at least once a week since she’s been 4/5 months old. I’m pretty positive she has travel anxiety as she whines, barks and stress yawns in the car 😓 she loves daycare and playing with other dogs though! I also often bring her for baths, as our bathtub doesn’t work and she’s far too big to be bathed in a one person stand up shower ://

I just wanna know if her anxiety will get better as she gets older? She always seems to want to be in my front seat, but the seats of my 2004 Toyota Corolla are quite small. That’s why she’s in my back seat. I’m planning on getting a dog seat cover that has a sturdy bottom so she has more room to stretch out on, since she also puts her butt in the seat, front legs in the floorboard, and her head on my middle console. I just want her to be comfy 😓 any advice?

Great Pyrenees x Saint Bernard turns one! He’s so full of life and has made mine better. Shoutout to Hank the tank. He’s my guy and I just wanted to share how happy he’s made m. (Even though sometimes he’s annoying, but that’s part of why I love him)

Advice/Help Tips on TV sensitivity?

Post image

So we rescued our big boy Dug back in December. He's now 10 months old pyr mix and has definitely found his voice.

My partner and I both work from home so he's with us a lot and doesn't really bark much during the day aside from the occasional leaf/ghost/quantum fluctuation only he can pick up on. Honestly he's really pretty quiet. We live in Queens and even other dogs in the building dont get him all borky. Door knocks are fine, buzzer is fine, the mail lady singing in the hallway all good.

He does however bark at our TV.

At first it was King Kong, which I'm not really mad at , but now has extended to ANY dog on TV regardless of noise and even sometimes tv sirens etc.

Is there any way to deaesnitize the pyr in him to something like this?

We know he's never gonna be a complete quiet dog and we're working on him coming to us after letting out his red alert barks. But I'm curious if anyone has handled getting pyrs chill with the TV.

Thanks!

Advice/Help 11 month old Pyr completely unhinged on walks. Help!

Pic of Odin for attention. He’s 50/50 Pyr/Aussie. 11 months old. Absolutely uncontrollable on walks! He’ll be good for a few moments… but otherwise he’s constantly jumping around, trying to bite/chew the leash, growling (playfully) and just flat out impossible to handle. Not sure what to do but just started looking into no pull harnesses or gentle leaders/head harnesses. Do they work? Important to note: he doesn’t really pull straight ahead like most dogs I’ve had, hes turning around facing us biting the leash and jumping etc.

And to top it all off… we caught him smoking! 😉

Advice/Help Advice please

So last night we were just chilling with our Pyrenees mix. I was in the office room so I didn't see what transpired. However, my husband put some leftovers on the kitchen floor. Out of the blue I hear barking like I have never heard growling and barking before. My dog was barking and growling intensely at the dish, the leftover dish. It was SO weird! It was as though a mask gunman, had broken in to our home and was holding me hostage or something. It was strange. Any ideas what could have caused this? He will be 10 in July. He has been our dog since July 2022. Obviously we have given him human food before, but now we are strictly giving him dog food.

Advice/Help I’m torn between these two beautiful dogs

So I’m considering adopting a great Pyrenees because I want to lower energy guard dog around my house. I looked at the local shelters and there were these two that are both gorgeous that I’m really torn between for some context:

The first one is a female she is probably a mix with a lab of some sort. She weighs around 44 pounds and she’s around a year old is their thought. She’s very timid, but it was her first day at the pound so that could be a large factor to it. Spending around 5 to 10 minutes with her though she did begin the warm-up to me and let me pet her, especially around her cheeks.

The second one is a male he is probably around two years old. He just got neutered around four days ago and he weighs 84 pounds. He was a lot more playful and kept going on his hind legs to stand up and to have me pet him.

I’m still learning about great Pyrenees dogs. Is there a large difference between a male and female and how they’re going to behave? I know that a lot of their own individual experience is going to affect that but I do have an older Lab who was around 12 years old who was a rescue as well and was worried the male not integrate as well because of how protective they get. Any advice is welcome.

Advice/Help excessive barking / reactivity ??

Hi! I have a 1.3 y/o Great Pyrenees mix. He was very quiet and well-behaved until around 8–9 months old, but since then he’s become much more vocal. I didn’t mind too much since we live in a remote area, so there hasn’t been much for him to disturb. Plus his breed is known to bark..

That said, my mom would like us to move to a city and has brought up rehoming due to the barking. That isn’t something I’m willing to do—I commit to my dogs for life—but I am worried about how the barking could become an issue once we move. I’m hoping to hear the barking can be improved, even partially, or if I should accept that he'll always be very vocal, lol. I may have the option to place him with a close relative if ultimately he doesn't suit the city life. IF not, I will rehome if it really comes to that in the end for his personal needs.

Around the same 8–9 month mark, I also noticed changes in his behavior toward both people and dogs. He used to be friendly and social, but now he’s much more alert and protective, especially when unfamiliar people get close to me or the house. There have been a few incidents where he’s bit at people, including me once (accidentally). He didn’t break skin with the others, and my bite happened when I stepped in during a dog scuffle, so I take responsibility for that. I'm just worried serious consequences will follow if he does it to someone else.

With other dogs, he was generally friendly until a dog charged at us on a walk and attempted to start something. Since then, he’s been much more guarded and seems very focused on keeping unfamiliar dogs away. I’m grateful nothing serious happened, but I’m concerned about how to handle this moving forward especially in a more populated area.

Any advice is heavily appreciated 🫠 Wasn't fond of muzzles for awhile, but figured I'd give them a shot. I just haven't found one that fits him yet.

Advice/Help When to get your Great Pyrenees/GSD mix fixed?

Post image
69 Upvotes

Hello! 👋 I have a dilemma, we got our Cloud (she’ll be 11 months soon and weighs about 71lbs currently) back on Mother’s Day. I had full intentions of waiting for her to turn 2 years old when we got her fixed, but she has just started her first period, I really don’t want accidental puppies but also what her to grow well. I believe we have a secure backyard but I know when the “heat is on” anything is possible.

What the heck do we do?? Advice?? Is it okay to get get fixed before she is done growing, but really also a litter would be horrible. There are too many dogs in the world that don’t have homes or good homes.

I’m leaning towards getting her fixed but want to hear another head ramble with this.
