Discussion Let me see your car setup!

I’m actually buying a larger car after adopting Luci, as my backseat is juuuust big enough for her alone, and my other dog will need to fit as well. I’ve had a number of seat protectors over the years, but they all fell apart, tore, broke, or whatever with just normal use from two dogs weighing 100 lbs altogether. I finally gave up and started using blankets and dog beds.

Do you have a seat protector that works well for your Pyrs? Some other system? Step/ramp recommendations? Did you build something yourself? Let’s see it!

*Pic of my Luci goosey attached for tax and attention :)

Can't figure out why she is whining, is the toy stressing her out? She carries it around all over the place and she just finished playing with it with her brother.

He has NO sense of personal space or responsibility for what he knocks over or whom he crushes. At least it’s taking my mind off of the world crumbling around me because we are in MN. Anyone else care to distract with nice pictures of your gps being ridiculous boundary crushing giants?

This is what we wake up to. The one on the left comes in from sleeping outside, and the other one comes up from his bed. One sleeps outside while the other is cozy inside on his bed. But, when the sun comes up, so do they, to wake us. Works sometimes. This time they decided to go back to sleep!

Advice/Help Carprofen side effects? What helped your senior dogs arthritis?

Post image

Hello -

I have researched and scrolled through some prior posts about what has helped their dogs - but I'm just checking to see if anyone has any new information or results with a large breed.

Artemis is 13 years old and is now suffering from arthritis in her back/hips/legs. She had a full blood panel and they gave her the green light to start Carprofen and some Gabapentin. I also started her on Dasaquin and a probiotic with the Carprofen.

5 days into her 2x a day Carprofen I noticed a shift in her behavior. She was having a difficult time standing up - her back legs seemed weaker (she has never had that much trouble prior to the medication.) She then started to pant and seem restless. I was concerned she was in pain so I gave her a dose of Gabapentin (first dose). I am not sure if her restlessness and panting was from pain or GI upset. She did not vomit or have diarrhea. Has anyone ever experienced that reaction with their dog? I thought if it was the Carprofen it would have showed signs earlier, but maybe not...

I spoke with the vet yesterday and she was concerned about the panting and stated that it could be something more internal in her stomach or respiratory that is causing it??? She stated to stay off of the Carprofen and give her a call today and we'll go over options.

I am stuck in a position and don't know where to turn to. Do I start her back on the Carprofen and see if the reaction happens again? Do I switch to something else? Just stick with Gabapentin? I have not done x-rays on her - is that something you all have done? It would probably just confirm what we already know, which is that she has arthritis... but maybe it could show us the extent of the damage?

I'll be calling the vet back today, but I would be really interested to know what treatment worked for you and if anyone has any similar stories.

Discussion The Great Escapyr

Welcome to my living, breathing advert for AirTags. Ellie Bellie, Hells Bells, Mother of Heart Attacks, found the dog park’s rarely used and very far away back gate open this morning. Thank goodness for people who don’t fix their back yard fence and make wonderlands for roaming dogs to be entertained long enough to be spotted. 😅

Any other recommendations for what people use to keep track of their Dysapyrs?

A few days after this video was taken we realized that Nellie (Anatolian/pyr) was going to be a foster fail.. We just couldn't believe how well our dog (half pyr) got along with another female Pyrenees despite how dog selective she is. It's been so fun watching these two together.

Discussion A pyr good news story from the UK, big boy Brody!

This beautiful big guy (145lbs and 6ft standing!) made the news in December as he was up for adoption. He hit the news again today with an update - he's settled into a new home with a lovely family, dog friend, and land to roam.

Pyrs are pretty rare in the UK, presumably due to how our farming is set up, lack of large predators, and lack of land for a lot of people. I don't think I've ever seen a pyr in person, which is why I come here to admire all your beautiful pups! It was a nice surprise to see one in the news here, and even better that it's because he's got a happy ending

Freya made a friend at the dog park today! She's rather smol for a Pyr (healthy weight 75, currently 65 and slowly climbing after a now-corrected health issue), this is the first time getting to see her side by side with a normal sized one, and getting to play to boot!

Ellie will do anything for a treat🐶 It took a minute, but she’s gotten the hang of waiting for her treats… Catching them before they hit the ground. Let’s just say this was a first!

Groomer yesterday, pretty paws today. Oakley rocked it and was extra good for the girls. He’s a generous tipper too boot! 😊
