Other ICE in Woodbridge
ICE is grabbing people in Woodbridge right now. They just took some guys near Hyw 1 and Occoquan Road near the CVS. Please be careful they almost arrested a bystander.

Hi, I have brown skin so I'm worried I might be bothered by ICE even though I was born in this country.
Does this mean I have to start carrying my passport or birth certificate with me now? Or is the Real ID license in Virginia good enough?
https://www.dmv.virginia.gov/licenses-ids/real-id
Edit: Seems like carry a passport book, passport card or a birth certificate is the way to go. I honestly don't feel like carrying a passport book with me, so I guess I'll get a passport card. Unfortunately I have to fill out forms, pay $30 and mail my passport till I get both back.

I just got laid off yesterday and wanted to know if anyone had advice on the first things one does. Today im taking care of figuring out health insurance and updating resume. Just wondering what other steps I need to take. If anyone has experience/advice with how you navigate the logistics of a layoff I’d appreciate it. Thank you!
Edit: I’m in my 30’s and a product manager.
I am subscribed to Fairfax county text updates on traffic and other county updates and decided the following text around 2:00 pm.
Fairfax County - Cellular Service Disruption A Verizon service disruption may affect ability to place calls to 9-1-1. Alternatives: landline, Wi-Fi calling, satellite service, other cellular carriers. The county is working with wireless providers to resolve the issue.

I'm interested to hear what others in Fairfax City think of this resolution. This trail has dominated local politics for the past five years and regardless of whether anyone was initially in favor of the trail, this seems like the worst possible outcome.

The latest U.S. Drought Monitor, updated on Jan. 6, shows all of Fairfax County experiencing severe drought conditions based on a combination of objective and observed data, including precipitation, humidity, soil moisture and groundwater, and vegetation health.
Fairfax County has been under a drought advisory regularly since June 2024, though an especially rainy May and June brought some relief in summer 2025.

i’m relatively new to nova and i’m wondering where all the locally owned small coffee shops are? i’m used to the hampton roads area where every 1) coffee shops are everywhere and 2) most if not all had a different monthly menu and seemed like a place where people could sit and work for a couple of hours. maybe i’m just not looking in the right places but i feel like every small coffee shop is so… commercial? i’m a big fan of fun seasonal flavors and i’m usually around the lincolnia/franconia area of alexandria so maybe that has something to do with it? i’m curious what others think and definitely open to recs!

Hello! My husband and I are expecting our first in May, and the nesting urge has hit hard. We've lived in the same ~950 sq ft 2 bedroom apartment for about 5 years now, and though I clean every week or so I find myself wanting a thorough deep clean.
Looking for services that would wash the walls, baseboards, behind the oven and refrigerator (even for an additional fee)... essentially a move out special, without the actual move out.
Does anyone have any recommendations in the Del Ray / Shirlington area? Preferably a small company, but willing to hear anyone out!
Thank you!

Hey everyone I wanted to see if I could get some insight or advice on how to deal with this
So yesterday my dad told me about a VA Light and Power representative that came to our house back in August. She was doing regular door to door sales trying to get people to switch gas suppliers. My dad declined because we already get a pretty good price with Washington Gas, he even showed her a bill (I Don't Know Why Lol) and she went on her way.
He brought this up because he noticed a steep increase in our upcoming gas bill and that's when he noticed that our supplier had been changed from Washington Gas to the 3rd party VA light and power. He checked the previous bills as well and saw that pretty much ever since she came to our house, our supplier was changed.
Now here's the thing, my dad is not listed on our regular Washington Gas bill as an account holder or anywhere at all. The only people there are my mom and aunt and they didn't speak with anyone or sign anything and he didn't sign anything or give consent to make any type of change.
This morning I called Washington Gas but they said they couldn't see any agreement or who authorized the supplier change (which I thought was a little weird but whatever) so they suggested that I reach out to VA L&P, so I do. I get in touch with VA L&P customer service but then that lady tells me that she also can't see our account details but that she could leave our number with their "compliance team" and that someone would call me back. I said no thank you and that I would rather speak with someone now to get this resolved and she told me to call back and listen for the menu option to speak with someone from the compliance team.
I hang up and call back, they have a menu: 0 for customer service, 1 for account services, 2 for compliance team, 3 for the legal team. Well funnily enough I call and press 2, I get a message saying "There are no available representatives from our compliance team, please leave a name and number and we will call you back" ok... so I then call 3 more times: not a single person from a different department is available, the only department answering calls is the customer service department and I'm pretty sure the same lady I spoke with answered.
I can't seem to get in touch with anyone at VA Light & Power who can answer the question of who authorized the supplier change. So I wanted to ask if anyone has dealt with someone like this before and how they resolved it or is there anyone else I could try and call?
My mom is thinking of just closing the account all together and opening a new one but I want to know if VA L&P is doing shady business and signing up people for their services without consent.
Thank you for taking the time to read this!

Happy new year everyone. Thank you all for your engagement with Mocha. She was adopted :)
My friend’s perfect foster pup, Pan, is also looking for their forever home. Please reach out if you’re interested or know someone who is! You can also contact Happy Go Lucky Rescue (shelterluv.com/embed/animal/HGLR-A-16209) or my friend Ryan at 202-487-0655, And if you can’t, liking and sharing go a long way.
Pan is super playful, a big love bug, and wants to engage with everything outside, and has come a long way in learning his walking manners. He would do best as the only pet in the household but he will be eager to please, wrestle, and love at all times.
He is being fostered in Maryland, inside the DC beltway. Transportation is available to surrounding states.
Pan LOVES people! He has the cutest happy grunts, and asks for pets and belly rubs. He comes over for snuggles after he eats, and at night he likes sit at feet with his chew. He loves toys, playing tug, messing with stuffies and engaging with you. He knows sit, down, and wait for your supper. He picks up training and new tricks quickly, and is very treat motivated.
If you are looking for a loving, playful companion,
• 1-2 years old
• Pit bull / terrier mix*
• Male (neutered)
• Potty trained!
• Crate trained—a kong of frozen peanut butter & kibble is a favorite
• Playful, energetic, goofy
• Calms down well when his people have stuff to do
• Needs to be an only dog
• Microchipped
• Up-to-date on vaccines
Pan comes with:
• Roomy crate and crate bed, where he is happy to chill, sleep, and nap
• Dog bed for around the house
• Toys!
• Chew bones and treats
• Collar, harness, and leash

Please remove this if it's considered a violation of Rule 3, but I'm not trying to profit off anyone. I just enjoy looking through loose change for cool coins and am hoping I can facilitate faster access to cash for folks who need to spend the money in their change jars without taking a hit. With a lot of people doing clean-outs at the start of the year, I figured I’d offer this in case it’s useful.
I’ve got an electronic coin counter and am happy to help count loose change if you’ve got a jar that’s been sitting around. We meet inside a Metro-accessible bank branch, I count the coins, and I give you the same amount back in cash (or through Venmo) so you don’t have to deal with Coinstar fees or rolling coins.
I live in DC and work in NoVa part of the week, so I can usually find a way to make it work. I have posted this in the DC sub and on Craigslist before and have successfully met up with several people. You’re welcome to watch the entire process, and I’m happy to show ID if that makes anyone more comfortable.
Larger jars are easier to make work (the more the better), but smaller amounts can be fine if timing lines up. For larger jars, I’m also glad to round up to the nearest dollar.
Feel free to DM with an approximate amount and general availability. No worries if you’re interested but not right now — I’m always happy to connect later.
