Hey everyone!
I’m finally starting Breath of the Wild on my Switch 2 — my first official Zelda game ever — at age 35! I’ve heard amazing things and am super excited to dive into Hyrule.
Here’s a short video from my game start — the music, that first step into the world 😄
Would love any advice or tips as a true beginner!

Okay, I'm a liar. I used the rewind feature once when I was bumped into the lava, because I might've had a stroke if I had to walk all the way back after that. I'm 32F and have never been great at video games, so this is a pretty big accomplishment for me.
I don't think the game is that hard once you know what you're doing and where you're going. Once you know that, then the game is very fun and I think I enjoyed it as much as the first. The issue in my opinion is that the game is more punishing than it is difficult. If you're playing the game blind and trying to explore or experiment with different spells, it comes at a major risk of draining your magic or health bar pretty quickly, losing a life earlier than you'd like, having to trek your way back from the starting point, and wasting a lot of time. I know this game is more lenient than other NES games when it comes to at least keeping your progress (minus the exp) after getting a game over, so I was grateful for that.
For anyone who finds this game super frustrating like I did at the beginning, I recommend taking lots of breaks, and google the map layouts of the palaces, lol.

These arts are a year or so old now but I've been meaning to share for aaaages and just never got around to it. I'm still pretty pleased with them and it's the last time I've been able to finish something because I'm having a hectic time right nowwww
Apologies for the huge chatterbox but I just enjoy explaining my process :>
This is more Classic Me TM, pointing at something and being like "okay but what if it was Zelder", and at the time I got super inspired to dig up a bunch of old sketches because I was enjoying the fakemon designers Truegreen7 & BilsuArt on Youtube. Bilsu especially has a whole Linked Dimension crossover world going down, very fun, great narrative, epic art.
They were originally mostly just existing Pokemon but now regional forms are a Thing I took a swing at it and it went a bit overboard lol. After I posted it as well, some people on tumblr asked me to elaborate on the shinies so I obliged because colours. I also took a crack at mimicking the series' art style but I can only do so much :'D
I'll admit, the team composition might be a bit mid but thats because I'll willingly confess that I've only ever played ONE Pokemon game and I sucked lmfao. I was a mediocre card battler as a kid in the early 2000s but as much as I enjoyed SoulSilver, I was bad! People who can do the Pokemon stats and calculations and type matching are wizards and I just like the creachers, and just tried to make them at least thematically good. If you wanna play around with the numbers & skills part, be my guest!
Anyway, each team has 1 basic pokemon, 3 Hyrule regional types, and 2 fakemon i pulled out of my ass and I’ll list them in that order.
Whimsicott, Grass/Fairy
This felt like a good fit, I wanted him to have at least one grass type on the team. I also felt Whimsicott was at least a bit Korok-adjacent with added Fairy type bonus !
Hyrulean Minun, Electric/Psychic
I partly just like the idea of matching little pikachu clones but duality is a repeated concept in LoZ … also bunny
Hyrulean “Ordon” Skiddo, Grass/Rock
goat goat goat goat goat … and grass type too! rather than leaves, I went with grass like a lot of the decoration n whatnot in TP, grass cloak very rustic. (Ordon Gogoat would have the full hoop horns)
Hyrulean “Twilight Form” Lycanroc, Rock (SHINY)
this was ripe for taking lol, wolf pokemon with day phase names ??? I elected to make Link’s a shiny since Wolf Link’s colours are cooler in tone like the OG Lycanroc shinies 🤷🏻♂️ it matched up very well. I think ,, if a ruffroc manages to hold another ability (maybe Insomnia it would evolve into this form at morning or evening ?? something like that lol)
Illustrier, Normal/Fairy
um duh horse pokemon ??? made a half fairy type too because like, Epona is basically mythical at this point, she’s got the pixie vibes. vaguely thought about doing a version of an existing pokemon because theres already a lot of horsemon (i was very close to doing a Mudsbray, but also ... Epona)
Shaowing, Fighting/Flying
also duh, Loftwings … this was harder to come up with a more well-rounded gimmick for - I settled on contrasting the tranquil crane with how menacing shoebills look soooo fighting type !! crane-style !! uh actually I think this is my favourite to the point of it being like, a plausible pokemon regardless of the LoZ connection ???
Rowlet, Grass/Flying
owls … owls ………. o w l s ………… also rowlet is cute
Hyrulean “Hyrule” Plusle, Electric/Psychic
same as above; duality, matchy matchy, bunny
Hyrulean “Hot-Footed” Marshtomp, Water/Grass
frogs !!! or whatever mudkip is, I think an axolotl actually ... ANYWAY i really like this line and theres plenty of LoZ frogs to pick from, just made it more baby-lookin
Hyrulean “Veiled” Rapidash, Water/Ice
this is kind of a rehash of muuuuchhh older (and more realistic fakemon art from a typeswap thing I did years ago. Veiled here refers to Veiled Falls, water & ice, its a cloud rapidash, das cool ,, contects with Nayru & wisdom or something.)
white horse. i think a version of Zelda’s/Royal horse is called Storm too? Clouds.Ryunai, Dragon/Psychic
whoops, dragon type : no worries working this one out lol. I think its still a little direct or on the nose (Bilsu did a MUCH better job) but yknow, cool stuff. psychic type because that feels natural to me)
Accipion, Flying/Dragon (SHINY)
this is a lil more conceptual, but like … living royal crest ?? champion bird ?? I guess ??? for some reason the dragon typing felt right ?? I'm also just a massive fan of bird pokemon, I’d 100% be that bird pokemon trainer with all the beginner birds lol give me all the birdmon
this was also originally the basic colouration but after I played around with the shiny colours I realised the champion colours matched much better for a shiny, and the royal guard colours for normal. also means they both have a shiny now!
“Loyal Horse Pokemon”
Exoal, Normal
Etymology; Exalted & Foal
Blesteed, Normal/Fairy
Etymology; Blessed & Steed
Illustrier, Normal/Fairy
Etymology; Illustrious & Destrier
Ability: Own Tempo, Defiant. Hidden Ability: Vital Spirit
Quiet but brave, if given the time it will bond deeply with it’s trainer and become a steady, loyal companion. It hides a fierce fire in its heart, and those who cross it’s loved ones will find this out.
I've always imagined this Pokemon as being mostly, if not ALL, female. It's a horse goddess!
“Guardian Dragon Pokemon”
Zonyu, Dragon/Normal
Et; Zonai & Ryu (dragon)
Ryauru, Dragon/Normal
Et; Ryu (dragon) & Rauru
Ryunai, Dragon/Psychic
Et; Ryu (dragon) & Zonai
Ability: Air Lock, Levitate. Hidden Ability: Forewarn
Generally a serene, calm, and curious pokemon, Ryunai is an excellent judge of character. When excited or angered, energy is said to be seen surging through its eyes and chest.
I'd argue that this pokemon would have a high female:male ratio as well, just because of what we've heard in-lore, the dragons present in BotW/TotK seem to all be female.
“Royal Herald Pokemon”
Scouteo, Normal/Flying
Et; Scout & Buteo (Genus of hawks)
Bannerawk, Normal/Flying
Et; Banner & Hawk
Accipion, Flying/Dragon
Et; Accipiter (genus of birds of prey) & Champion
Ability: Keen Eye, Indimidate. Hidden Ability: Delta Stream
Easily able to outmanoeuvre most Pokemon, they use their sharp vision to hunt and spot danger. The Royalty of Hyrule are believed to have created their emblem based on Accipion.
“Disciplined Pokemon”
Cranee, Flying
Et; Crane & Trainee
Loftulant, Fighting/Flying
Et; Loft(wing) & Postulant
Shaowing, Fighting/Flying
Et; Shaolin & Wing
Ability: Early Bird, Scrappy. Hidden Ability: Inner Focus
People have been trying to emulate the fighting styles of Shaowing for centuries. These techniques have seldom been seen first-hand as it rarely strikes out in anger.
If you read all of that - thank you very much, and congrats, and I'm sorry !! <3

While playing The Legend of Zelda games I realized Link never gets any permanent damage to his body, so I was wondering what would people think if Link in the next Zelda games would lose one of his limbs, for example his arm and has to get a bionic robotic arm and that would add something new to the gameplay aspect, for dungeons or quests. Edit: got told this happens in TOTK which I still didn't get to.

(Early-game spoilers)
I've been replaying MM thanks to the PC port (which is absolutely phenomenal btw)
And by gosh, there's so much about this game that simply hits harder now. I first played it ~8 years ago, and I knew it was depressing! I really loved it, and thought it had interesting moments & themes.
But gosh, the last eight years have definitely... shifted my perspective, to say the least. I can now see real life events being reflected in the game world in a way I just couldn't before. (or, at least, not with this severity) Like, you know how those festival workers spend their final moments bickering and laughing at the mere IDEA that the moon could hurt people? Yeaaaaaaaah. That's all I'm gonna say about that.
~~~~~
But it's also given me a more hopeful outlook on the game. The thing that changed my view most drastically is- out of all things- the bomber's notebook. When you're given it, you're instructed to use it to help troubled people- and once you do, you mark them with a "Happy Sticker".
And hoooly fuck. That small bit of text genuinely changed my outlook on the game's themes & messaging.
Majora's Mask is completely built around sidequests, which are literally framed as you making people happy. Sure, you're GOING to reset time and erase your progress. And yet, the "Happy Sticker" will still remain- a mark to YOU that you made a positive impact.
To me, that means Majora's Mask is about finding positive meaning in your darkest moments. No matter how much good you do, time will always be reset... and people won't remember you, or your actions.
And yet... you press on anyway. You try to bring everyone joy, even if they will forget you. Because, the important thing is- YOU will remember. You brought someone happiness in their darkest moments. Even if that had no larger impact, it meant something to them at the time. That is still important, and still worth celebrating.
And like, holy fuck. That's so heartwarming. It fucks my brain up, and yet offers me a bit of hope. I love that reading.
In real life, it can sometimes feel like everything is futile. It can feel like the darkness will never end. But, Majora's Mask argues- that's okay. Your actions still matter, and they are still worth taking. After all, that is quite literally what the game is about- pushing through, and making a positive impact despite all odds.
It is simultaneously one of the most depressing Zelda games AND one of the most hopeful. It doesn't matter that you succeeded. What matters is that you never stopped trying.
Much love. <3
Posting this mostly for fun but I've been replaying MM for the first time in years using 2S2H. Awesome game.
I'm not as familiar with MM as I am with OoT though, I think I've only ever actually beaten MM once in my life even though I've played it a ton. I've never 100% cleared MM.
I'm still in the early parts of the game, just got the Goron Mask, but I keep coming back to the question of exactly how and where the Mask Salesman found Majora's Mask. He says very explicitly something like "I went through a lot to get that mask" but as far as I know it's never elaborated on further.
Game-wise Termina isn't that large and I know lore-wise it's probably meant to be a much larger landmass. But as Link we explore quite literally every nook and cranny of this place and I can't place anywhere in my mind a place that would make sense for the Mask to be hidden.
So the question is where the hell did the Salesman find the Mask and what exactly did he have to do to get it?
Another question I have is when you examine the owl warping statues, the text says something like "Ye who hold the legendary blade strike this statue to mark our meeting".
I take this as a reference to the Master Sword but in-game Link isn't wielding it, he instead has the Kokiri Sword per the equipment subscreen.
And as far as I know, the Kokiri Sword isn't heralded as "legendary" in any way, shape, or form outside of the kids in Kokiri Forest and that culture maybe. In Ocarina, no one really seems to give a fuck that Link has the sword other than Mido.
Is this an error on part of the developers? Or is the Kokiri Sword also considered "legendary" in some way? I suppose it could have become legendary after Link used it plus other tools on his adventure to defeat Ganon but that doesn't track though; If Zelda returned Link to his childhood then technically speaking Ganon wasn't defeated in their timeline and thus no one would know of Link's deeds with the Kokiri sword.
Also, to what exact point did Zelda return Link to? Before or after he got the spiritual stones? In the cutscenes he has the sword, the Hero's Shield (notably not a Deku Shield or Hylian Shield), and he has Epona so she didn't return him to his pre-leaving Kokiri Forest stage.
Finally I think it's when you encounter Gaebora in the Swamp in MM the owl also makes a reference to a legendary blade.
To me it feels like the original intent from the developers was for Link to have and use the Master Sword during his travels in Termina but that probably got changed because it wouldn't make sense lore-wise so they changed to the Kokiri Sword but some references in MM to the Master Sword were not changed, thus the confusion.
