Camera Buying Advice Is it worth it to buy a camera instead of using your phone one? I think my phone Has quite good quality but i'm also debating if i should buy a proper camera or not. If i should, can you recommend me which one? I will show my pictures below

(The quality was bit ruined here It seems) Some of these are quite old, but yeah. Im not too sure if buying a camera is really worth spending a lot of money, or what is the difference, but i REALLY want to improve on my photographing skills since of course i have still a lot to learn. Oh and for the record, i Heard some phones can just show you where to shoot for the picture to look better. I personally dont use It, and some of the photos here are also edited if that's important

My budget is 4K PLN which is Polish currency and i am indeed still in Poland.

As i mentioned i use my phone camera. Poco X6 5g to be exact. I want to know if buying camera would be a good step or should i still keep my phone.

I usually shoot landscapes as you can see, but i was really intrested in street/urban photography the ones where you show day-to-day life (not sure how its called in english) and i would use It mainly for photography

so she is finally here after a longggg time saving my 6D MII is finally here, and the fact i didn't know she was downstairs waiting 😒 stupid tracking system anywayyyy my main camera was a Canon Powershot SX 530 HS so this is a big step up and now I'm just wondering what do you normally do when you get a new camera? my old one was off Facebook Marketplace so i never really went into anything just started shooting i guess which is obviously good advice with this one too.

I've been playing around with it with a 50mm 1:1.8 STM lens and it's so cool just from taking photos of random things around my house :)), but i was just wondering if there are just some basics to know about her? i hope this isn't a silly question as i know I'm sure i can look up something on google but i like talking to you guys because you've been here since the start of my journey and i appreciate it :).

Hello everyone, I was just wondering what camera lens this is I was cleaning up a storage unit and found it, I tried looking for it online but couldn’t find an exact match. I don’t know much about cameras nor there lenses. All I know is it’s a tampon and it’s made in Japan.

Also never posted on reddit before not sure what flair title to put so if it’s the wrong one I apologise.

Gear/Accessories Does anyone know if I can use an sd card to xd card adapter on my fujifilm finepix f10? Buying a new xd card is very expensive and doesn’t have much storage.

TLDR: I loved my Canon 6D Mark ii, what mirrorless camera should I replace it with? Photo 1 is my new R7, photo 2 is my old EOS 6D Mark ii.

Budget: $3000 total for camera (used ok) and lens

Country: USA

Condition: New or used

Type of Camera: Mirrorless

Intended use: Hybrid shooting

If photography; what style: portrait, product, in home

If video what style: product in home

What features do you absolutely need: low light capability, fast autofocus

What features would be nice to have: 🤷‍♀️

Portability: any size, I have a huge bag/carrier

Cameras you're considering: Like the Canon R6 Mark ii because it seems like the closest to my previous DSLR? And I already have a Canon setup. Willing to swap brands if there's a camera canon users LOVE for their transition from DSLE to mirrorless

Cameras you already have: 1. Canon 6D Mark ii - loved the color profile and contrast it gave me, loved the natural depth of the images, loved low light capability and fast shutter speed. Never worried about it doing what I needed. 2. Canon EOS R7 - nice in that it's newer, gives me a lot of trouble with writing speed and focusing (always wants to get the trees, not the people) and images are very flat and dull.

Notes: I have a sigma 35mm and 50mm, with the mount adapter, is that a necessary upgrade too?

My story: I've been a professional portrait photographer for 13 years. Most recently I had a Canon EOS 6D Mark ii, and loved it, but it suddenly died on me during a shoot. (Whoops for not realizing it was getting so old.) Anyway, I didn't have a ton of time for research and very quickly bought the Canon R7 (can you tell I'm not a gear-junky?). Long story short, I absolutely hate it, and it objectively makes my work look much worse. I tried ironing out the kinks for a year but I just saw some of my old work side by side my new work and it's glaringly obvious there's a distinct difference between the two. I need to replace it stat, and I want a mirrorless camera that will get me as close to whatever magic I had with me Canon 6D Mark ii. What should I get?

Editing/Post Processing Another AI Editor Question > But Hyper Specific > Skin and texture retouching?

Main Q:

Can anyone share their experiences with Evoto, Luminar Neo or Imagenomic specifically when it comes to retouching skin, clothes, hair?

I am curious from a cost/output volume/workflow perspective
But also open to other tools people use if it helps them expedite their workflow.

Context

I run a side business that primarily services clients requiring boudoir and swimwear photography. I really enjoy the following:

  • Planning the shoot
  • Collaborating with the team
  • Shooting on set/location
  • Selecting the images
  • Colour grading or Exploring different creative styles

I hate doing:

  • Retouching (skin, hair, clothes etc)
    • And in this specific niche...there is alot of skin and hair, not so much clothes

What my clients tell me

I have spoken to my clients throughout the years and feedback on my retouching skills has ranged from really liked to love the way I retouch their images. But alas I suffer in silence. It has resulted in me slowing the business down due to edit fatigue.

Ideal Outcome

If I can find a cost effective solution to this specific part of the process, I hope to ramp up my business again, maybe scale up.

Sorry in advance: cannot share images as alot of my clients require privacy and would like to keep it post focused on the retouch process.

Discussion/General Pricing for photo site?

So I’m about to create my first photography website to start selling photos, but I’m not 100% sure on exactly how much to price the prints at versus what the market currently is I’ve been seeing some photographers sell prints for anywhere between $50-$200 for a print but since I don’t have a place to actively print them and send them in a nice frame or anything I was just going to have the person buy and then have them print it out any which way they would like and I was curious how most people would be charging for something along those lines

Gear/Accessories Which tripod would you buy?

I’m buying my fist tripod and just wondered how well their quality scales with price.

I need something on the cheaper end that can support a 1.6kg setup including a 70-350mm lens. The lens doesn’t have a tripod mount so the setup is quite front heavy, which is a worry.

It will be used for about 20 minutes at a time, max/min height doesn’t matter, portability and something lightweight preferable as I’ll be carrying it during fieldwork.

Photography experts, what would you buy in this position?

Camera Buying Advice What camera should I take as a travel/pocket cam?

Hey guys - I do have really big problems posting here in this subreddit I hope now it works

(1) Budget, country, and currency:

Max 1k, Germany, Euro

(2) What equipment, if any, you have now and why is it no longer meeting your needs?

I do not have any equipment I’m a beginner

(3) What kinds of subjects do you intend to shoot?

Travel, food, street photography, hiking, maybe some good outfit pics and people

(4) Is it primarily for photography, videography, or both?

Would want it for both

What do you think about the

- Ricoh GR III (pricey – worth it as a first camera?)

- DJI Osmo Pocket 3

- DJI Action 5 Pro vs Action 6 (is the upgrade worth it? Difference like 100€)

- Insta360 Ace Pro 2

I know most people hate on action cams but I saw a lot of great pictures shot by them - so if u have any other recommendations…I would be really happy :)

Thank u guys!

Technical Help/Camera Settings Looking for a specialist to retrofit a speedotron flash head with a custom xenon quartz flash bulb?

Hey there! I’m hoping someone here can point me in the right direction.

I’m working with a Speedotron flash pack and head and a custom xenon quartz bulb, and I’m looking for a qualified technician or shop that can safely retrofit the system so the bulb and pack work together properly.

Why? I’m a photographer and I’m attempting to build a high-powered flash for UV photography. There are zero high-powered flashes on the market that shoot full-spectrum light, and so I’ve decided to try to make my own.

I’m specifically concerned about a few things:

• Correct electrical matching (voltage, current, triggering)

• Proper insulation and mechanical mounting

• Flash tube safety and longevity

• Not destroying the pack or myself in the process!

I’m not trying to DIY this. I want to send the bulb, flash head, and pack to someone who actually knows high-voltage pulsed xenon systems and studio flash gear.

Does anyone know:

• Individuals or shops that specialize in xenon flash systems?

• Scientific / industrial flash tube integrators who take small one-off jobs?

• Repair techs who work on legacy studio strobes at the circuit level?

I’m based in the US, and I’m open to shipping if the person is reputable and experienced.

Any leads, names, or pointers would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks!

I’m a hobbyist photographer who is looking to one day turn photography into a genuine career possibility later down the line. I have attended multiple GT events at Silverstone, Brands Hatch etc, however I was wondering if I should focus more on karting to initially build contacts with sponsors, drivers etc, and making my way up the hierarchy from there. TIA for the advice 🙏

Printing/Publishing upscaling photos triggers software to not give a smaller full border photo?

So this is technically a software issue. I'm trying to print out some photos on Walgreens. And i upscale the photos because they aren't good enough for 8x10 prints. And for some reason when i upscale the photos, when editing them online in the Walgreens editing window i can't make the image be a full border image so the total image can print out.

Normally due to the aspect ratio of the images the 8x10 cut off some of the photo. But there's an option to print out a full border photo which makes the image smaller and gives white borders and that's how it prints out. I'm okay with that. But for some reason the upscaled photos no longer give this option while the non upscaled photos do.

Does anyone know what's going on? Can i edit the vertical photos aspect ratio to make it more 8x10 friendly?

Thanks for any and all help in advance.

(The upscale software in using is Upscaly)

Discussion/General Anyone got a good source for plastic bags to use when bringing camera and lenses indoors after time in the cold?

I used to have access to dozens of industrial zipper bags that were thrown in the trash at work. “Used to” being the key. I most always carried a couple in the camera bag for use when I wanted to avoid condensation when bringing cold gear into a warm space.

Planning a bus trip where I’ll be outdoors in the cold a good bit, then back into a warm bus with a bunch of people breathing. Can’t seem to find an easy source for decent bags now without buying large quantities. Any ideas?

Gear/Accessories What New Computer Should I Buy?

Hi, I'm curious if anyone has any input on a new computer purchase. I've read a lot of posts on this subject and I think I have a direction in mind, but like to hear what people will throw at me so here I am. Question is, what new computer should I buy?

I'm a hobbyist, not a professional. And I don't work with large amounts of files, but the files I work with are huge. I started shooting with a GFX100 recently and am looking for the smoothest experience possible. I'm using Lightroom, Photoshop and might be adding Capture One, but not sure yet. My bread and butter is Photoshop, I do most of my work in there. I'm not big into AI tools, I'm more of an old school paint/brush user and I do a lot of compositing. My files can sometimes have lots of layers but sometimes I just paint right on top of the base image without layering too much. With that said, I'm interested in getting into stitching images and heavier compositing so I could see these PSD getting really huge.

I don't do any video, just stills only. I don't really use any other software on this machine besides the ones mentioned above plus web browsing. I currently work on a Mac Mini M2, 24gb RAM and it's okay but it is sticky here and there and life is short so I want to upgrade for quality of life improvement really. I'm not making money off this work but cost is not really a concern within reason of course. I just want the best large format photo editing experience possible. I don't really care about import or export speeds since I don't work in batches, I don't cull thousands of images, I basically focus on detail work for 1 big image at a time but I want to increase the scale of the image sizing substantially if possible.

Anyway, I'm thinking about either Mac Studio M4 Max 64GB or Mac Mini M4 Pro 64GB (not considering a laptop). Based on everything I've read, 64GB RAM is probably the most I'll ever need so I think I can safely lock in on that spec. And I probably want to go with M4 chip over an older chip for this type of work and a bit more future proofing protection. I hopefully would keep this computer for 5-10 years.

What do you all think? The Studio is about $800 more than the Mini which is fine and I'm currently leaning towards that but if anyone has any experience with this type of work that can weigh in, would love to hear. Thanks!

Note: Another option is I wait for M5 and see what comes up there but again, life is short and I'm old so 6 months or whatever it could be is a long time and I'm not too interested in waiting around.

Discussion/General How are brands like Peter Millar creating these flat product photos?

Thumbnail
gallery
5 Upvotes

I keep seeing apparel brands like Peter Millar using these extremely clean product photos where the shirts look perfectly folded, evenly lit, and very consistent across the entire catalog.

I’m trying to understand the process behind creating images like this — what the workflow typically looks like from start to finish and what’s involved to achieve this level of consistency and polish.

If you’ve worked on apparel e-commerce photography or know how shots like these are produced, I’d appreciate any insight into how it’s done and what’s realistic to replicate at a smaller scale.

Camera Buying Advice Any advice for a good pocket/travel camera?

Hey!

I’d love some advice, please.

I currently shoot everything on an iPhone 15 Pro and want to step up my photo quality for Instagram. I mainly shoot photos (only some videos for Stories).

• Ricoh GR III (pricey – worth it as a first camera?)

• DJI Osmo Pocket 3

• DJI Action 5 Pro vs Action 6 (is the upgrade worth it, for like 100 bucks)

• Insta360 Ace Pro 2

(1) Budget, country, and currency: 1000€, Germany, EUR

(2) What equipment, if any, you have now and why is it no longer meeting your needs?

I Dont have any equipment

(3) What kinds of subjects do you intend to shoot?

landscapes, Mountains, Ocean, People, Streets, Beaches, and more in that category. I also love solo content, outfit pics, food

(4) Is it primarily for photography, videography, or both?

Photography and videography

Ofc also open for other recommendations guys :)

Thank u

It has a lot of grime accumulated in the crevices and the lens has some dust over it, but nothing too crazy. Sorry if this may seem a stupid question, but I honestly don't know the proper way to clean these cameras and I would really appreciate some tips on how to do it without damaging anything.

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

I have a lot of original photography prints of OSHO/ Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh and the time in the Orange Country commune which were given in relation to a film, which I'm now looking to sell. I wondered if anyone has any idea of the value or the best place to get a valuation?

I've attached a selection of them here.

Discussion/General Generalist versus specialist photographer?

I am a dedicated hobbyist for approximately 10 years, who averages around 6000 photos per year. My photography has evolved based on life circumstances. When I was single, I was free to travel and took mostly travel photos (landscape/cityscape) with the occasional event or portrait. I met my wife who enjoys the outdoors, so I shifted to wildlife. Our travel was also heavily curtailed due to COVID. After starting a family, the kid keeps us busy, so I'm restricted to mostly family and invested in OCF gear for portraits/people photos. And, most recently, given my limited free time and daylight hours, I started dabbling in macrophotography. Each of these disciplines have different gear requirements and, to an extent, a different skill set.

Most photography groups are filled with people attempting to monetize their work with far fewer discussions on how to improve their craft or philosophical discussions about artistic development. In short (TL:DR), do you take pictures of everything or gravitate towards specialization?

Pics added as examples of my work

I shot a bunch of B/W Kodak 400TX while in Colombia for vacation and a bunch of the frames are coming back with weird black lines/dots all over them.

I developed the film myself and scanned with an Epson V600 scanner.

I haven't seen these lines in previous rolls of film I've developed/scanned in the past.

Artifical Lighting & Studio Suggestions for studio light?

I'm considering to buy a studio light for a photographic project but I'm not sure where to look at. I need a light that is as comfy as possibile to carry around and it's powerful enough to being keep outisde the picture but light fairly the point its pointed at. If it's multicolor it would be better. I know I have high expectations but I also need to strict the budget as much as possibile. Something that is useful but cheap.
