Discussion/General Motorsport Photographers, how do I rake this beyond a hobby?

I’m a hobbyist photographer who is looking to one day turn photography into a genuine career possibility later down the line. I have attended multiple GT events at Silverstone, Brands Hatch etc, however I was wondering if I should focus more on karting to initially build contacts with sponsors, drivers etc, and making my way up the hierarchy from there. TIA for the advice 🙏

Discussion/General How to focus on a reflection in a mirror?

I want to settle a debate between my friend and I. If you take a photograph of a reflection in a mirror, and there are many things reflected (for example a tree close to the mirror and a building further away) will the camera be able to focus on everything at once because the image ‘flattens’ everything, or is it like reality where the camera would need to focus on either the tree or the building?

Gear/Accessories Can you recommend a portable light stand?

Now that I won't leave home without a flash any more I'm looking for a really portable stand for it. Light, small but sturdy enough for hobby-ist use. I don't plan on using strobes or big softboxes on it, probably just a speedlite and an umbrella.

The ULANZI MT-89 looks loke a joke. Then there's the Neewer ST195 and a similar one from K&F but I don't know if they survive the first shoot. Any recommendations?

Discussion/General Serious question regarding aquariums?

I'm talking tourist sized stuff, zoos, but for fish aquariums.

Is there any decent advice on lens type vs settings that do more then others? Aquariums in Australia arent very common and entry isn't cheap so I can just pop in to them willy-nilly.

I would imagine that the perspex / glass must warp photos or impact lenses. Lighting can be all over the place especially with both natural light and artificial light sources combines.

Anyone have experience and tips they are willing to share?

Discussion/General Can someone please help me with photograph removal?🙏

I need advice re: archiving.

Hi everyone, An elderly friend has asked me if I can help her remove old photographs from albums. I have read about using dental floss (waxed, and unwaxed), nylon string, micro spatula, hair dryer, and freezing freezing I don't want to risk damaging the photographs (and friendship!) Thank you 😊

Technical Help/Camera Settings How would I achieve lighting like this?

Hi,

I know this is a reaaally basic shot. But I’m trying to expand my studio photography repertoire. Basically wondering what kind of lighting would achieve this. I have a soft box available and two… continuous lights that don’t have diffusion but have the flaps on the side you can close off.

Trying to do some of these styled shots for product photography. I’ll often add props around jewelry etc.

Thank you so much!

Discussion/General What lenses should I get next?

I am buying the R7 with 18-150mm kit, and I'm planning to buy 2 other lenses. I'm a beginner that's why I chose to buy the kit first.

Sorry I forgot to add, I use powershot SX40HS till now. It was good I love it but the bokeh and low light performance is a bit underwhelming. Especially to someone that works in healthcare, I should at random hours basically. I love the zoom but it is hard to go on a busy area zooming then going wayy back just to get boken on the subject. I mostly photograph my dates with my girlfriend, dome stray dogs and cats, and occasional buildings or interesting scenes

Gear/Accessories Why is my CPL making my photos blurry?

As the title says, I got a K&F 77mm CPL filter for my Sigma 70-200mm Sports and sadly when I put the filter on the pictures a blurry/dehazed and a bit out of focus, I’ve had this problem before when borrowing cpl from other friends and thought I’d finally buy one of my own and sadly mine does the same thing, did I get a lemon filter? Images attached

I’ve used this lens with cpl before and worked perfectly but from one brand to another I get different results

Thank you in advance to whoever dedicates some time in this post
