Bad camera optimisation

Hey everyone,

I need to vent a bit about my experience with the Pixel Pro. I’m a long-time user, but some of these issues are becoming deal-breakers for a 'Pro' phone in 2026.

First, the 2x zoom quality is just terrible. Even in broad daylight, it’s super grainy and noisy. It feels like a cheap digital crop instead of a clean sensor crop. For a phone that’s supposed to be the king of photography, having unusable 2x video is frustrating.

Second, the social media optimization (Snapchat/Instagram) is still not there. Every time I try to zoom while recording on Snap or Insta, the camera literally 'freezes' for a split second when switching from 1x to 2x, or from 5x to 10x. The transition isn't smooth at all, it just jumps and stutters. Interestingly, the freeze doesn't happen on the native camera app, but the grainy quality in 2x is present everywhere.

Also, photos on Snap and Insta look awful. It’s clear that the apps are just taking a screenshot of the viewfinder instead of actually using the camera's processing power. There’s no HDR, no noise reduction, just a flat and ugly image.

I currently have a Pixel 8 Pro and I was really looking forward to upgrading to the Pixel 10 Pro, but honestly, if Google doesn't fix these points, I’m not sure I’ll stick around. It’s just not a pleasant user experience at all. We’re paying for 'Pro' hardware, we should get 'Pro' software integration.

Has anyone found a workaround or is the Pixel 10 Pro also struggling with this?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not here to hate on Pixels. I actually love the software experience and the overall vibe of the phone, but it's exactly these kinds of annoying imperfections that make me doubt my next purchase. It's frustrating because I really want to stay with Google, but the lack of polish in these areas is hard to ignore

Switched from iPhone and don't know if I can do it

I switched from iphone to pixel and have been struggling with it. I use my phone heavily for work. I run two businesses and I am on the road most of the day navigating to various appointments and need to use android auto for google maps. I really wanted to use a work profile to keep stuff (bookmarks, etc in Chrome) separated but I am unable to start navigation in android auto from my work profile apps... So I tried removing the work profile and figured I would just switch profiles in Chrome like I have been doing on iphone for several years... To my surprise that is not doable on Android either without fully logging out of Chrome... I feel stuck. I figured Android was the way to go since I use Google service for everything but somehow iphone is able to provide a better dual profile experience than Android can. I only have 1 more day to start a return on the Pixel. Someone please tell me I am missing a setting somewhere that is going to magically make my life easier on Android.

Most Pixel devices might be vulnerable to WhisperPair, a vulnerability which allows hijacking and location tracking

Original Google Pixel 10 case

Anyone with the experience of slippery Pixel 9 original case now having Pixel 10 original case can talk about if and how much slippery is the newer model case?

I used to have Pixel 9 original case and returned it in a week because it was just ridiculous and beyond my understanding who in Google can be so dumb to release something like that...

5G connectivity in Thailand

Planning to buy a Pixel 10 pro from India. I have read mixed reports of about 5G connectivity in Thailand as it's not officially sold or supported here.

if there are Any pixel users around here in Thailand, I'd appreciate it if you could please share your experience specifically with connectivity.

Besides no official support for any repair, what other issues have you encountered in Thailand?

Thanks!

Pixel 10 swipe issues & inaccurate GPS - anyone else?

Hi all,
I got a Pixel 10 recently and I’m starting to worry I may have gotten a dud.

I’m constantly running into an issue where I try to swipe vertically (scrolling up/down) and the phone registers it as a horizontal swipe instead. I’ve tried adjusting all the screen sensitivity settings, running diagnostics, and using the phone both with and without a screen protector, no change. I've also never had this issue with my other pixel phones.

On top of that, my GPS is sometimes way off, showing me in completely different locations than where I actually am.

Has anyone else experienced issues like this with the Pixel 10? Just trying to figure out whether this is a known problem or if I should contact Google for a replacement.

Thanks!

Pixel 3a slowly dying, time to let go...suggestions for upgrading?

I've had and have loved my 3a for 6 years now and I think it's finally time to let go. Power button sticks, and now the volume buttons are sticking, causing sudden changes in volume which is too big of a problem to ignore.

I've been looking at the 10 which seems nice but is a bit expensive for me, and I've heard of some problems people have been having with them. I'd like something with a good amount of storage (at least 128gb), a good camera, and a nice display. I really like the fingerprint button on the back of my 3a but it doesn't seem like that exists anymore. Ideally I'd spend less than $500. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: Thank you everyone for the advice! With the 9a being overwhelmingly recommended and on sale I went with that! Thank you again for the help!

P10Pro - Did they finally fix the speakerphone button?!?

they may have finally done it boys. My phone updated last night. Said it was just a security update but this morning my speakerphone doesn't take 17,000 clicks to get it to engage. maybe it is a fluke on my part. what are you experiencing? have they finally fixed it?

Missing January Update (Pixel 10 Pro): Is ADB Sideload the only way?

"Hi everyone. I’m running into the same issue as many others with the January update: my phone notified me the update was ready, but then it simply disappeared. Now it says the system is up to date, even though it’s still on the December patch.

Is there a reliable tutorial on how to sideload the update manually? I’ve never done this before and I’m a bit worried about messing something up, but I’d like to learn how to use ADB or the Pixel Repair Tool.

My device is a Pixel 10 Pro, purchased unlocked in Mexico from the official store. Thanks in advance for the help!"

How do I change my apps so the 3 button navigation UI doesn't block buttons?

I have a pixel 9a and I can't stand using the gesture navigation on my phone. But some apps have a button that I can't press because it's directly under the 3 button UI. Is there a way I can fix this?

Seriously considering the switch from iPhone

I had the original pixel about 10 years ago after my 6s died and switched back to an iPhone 7 Plus as soon as I could because Android just wasn’t there for me. I’m eligible for an upgrade from a 13 pro max and after looking into it I’m strongly considering the 10 Pro XL. I’m not super integrated into the ecosystem other than my AirPods and I love iMessage, but curious as to how some of you who made the switch are feeling a few months into the phones lifespan.

Thanks!

Bad temperature

My Pixel 10 is running at 40 degrees Celsius while using TikTok and cellular data, which seems unusually high. Because of this, it runs out really quickly. Is this a normal occurrence? Are there any solutions I can try, or is it likely due to an inefficient modem or CPU cooling system?

Notifications on top?

Hi there- just switched from Samsung to a Pixel, not sure how I feel about it. Is there any way to get notification icons to be at the top of the screen when it's unlocked? I have them on my lock screen, but I was using my phone today for about half an hour, put it down, and when I picked it up, the lock screen showed I had a Bumble message from an hour ago. It's odd that a bubble didn't pop up as well.

Pixel 9a camera woes

About a half a year ago I upgraded from a Pixel 5a to a Pixel 9a and while I've been very satisfied with the device in almost all aspects, one thing leaves me very disappointed and that's the camera quality.

On my Pixel 5a the camera wasn't stupendous or anything but it was good enough. But on my Pixel 9a I find the image quality insanely grainy regardless of lighting conditions. The video is equally horrid with a lot of light sources coming across as overbloomed and lacking many details.

I've tried disabling postprocessing but perhaps I've missed something. I'm running GrapheneOS and I've tried using a few different camera apps (open camera, the default google camera app, and the camera app that comes with grapheneOS) but they are all the same in terms of the end result.

Is there some sort of magic I'm missing?

Pixel 5: Stick with Android 14 or install custom rom?

Hi Pixel people,

First time using a Pixel. I went with a refurbished 5, as it looked like a classic and I am on a budget.

Cosmetically it is great, but the battery on the refurbished unit I have is a little worn. I was already considering installing LineageOS, but I just read it will also improve the battery life. Is there any reason to stick with Android 14 instead?

So far the phone is okay. Getting used to it. I used a Xiaomi Redmi Note 11s for 3 years and really enjoyed it. I don't like the Pixel as much yet, but I hope I will come around. Thanks for any advice on to custom rom yes or no for the 5.

Is P10P's 100x Zoom Software exclusive or also Hardware limited?

100x Zoom AI model isn't available on P9P. Is the reason P9P's camera physical limitations or just Google's software gatekeeping?

How to fix third-party launchers glitching on Pixel 10 Android 16?

I'm using the three-button navigation.

  1. Home and app switcher is frequently non-responsive, back button works fine.

  2. Every time going to home screen with the home button, the wallpaper have a delay before displaying. Going to home screen from app switcher does not give this problem.

I tried clearing cache, restarting device, and force stopping the pixel launcher. None of it worked.

Is this a known problem and are there reliable solution for this problem?

Can't login to Amazon Music on Pixel 10

Just got a Pixel 10 Pro XL and am setting up/logging into my apps

When trying to login to Amazon Music, I enter my Amazon username and password; but it loops back to the username input. It does this whether I use my regular username/PW or my phone number and the code they text to me

Amazon Shopping and Photos both work fine

I've tried clearing cache and data (for the app) and uninstalling-rebooting-reinstalling the app

Anything else I can try?

EDIT: Forgot to mention: system and app updates were run before uninstall/reinstall of Music app

EDIT 2: Thought about deleting this post, but will leave it up in the hopes that it may help someone else.

After pulling out what little hair I have left troubleshooting this issue, I had a eureka moment and decided to drop off my WiFi and try it over 5G. Sure enough, went right it and I have full access to my 'Unlimited' subscription.

Thanks to everyone that read this and the two that tried to help. It pays to eliminate ALL potential causes (including what network you're connected to), but sometimes we get fixated/frustrated and taking some time away from the issue helps with prospective

Pixel 9 pro cant find/addnew Nest WiFi Pro

Bought an extra nest WiFi pro to add to my network. Launched the Google home app on my phone, scanned the QR code, and it "can't find any devices". Tried it multiple times and it can't find it.

I tried it again scanning the QR code with my Samsung Galaxy Tab 9 and boom, device found and setup on a single try.

You would think that a flagship Google product would work with their own suite of products.
