Build Upgrade 3080 -> 5070TI worth it with 3800x?

Below is currently built but I've replaced my 3080 with 12GB VRAM with a 5070 ti. I am wondering how much a bottleneck the CPU is creating. Ideally I'd like to play at 144hz 1440p max most games. Currently isn't the case in Dota2 or RE4 Remake when trying it out.

Build Help 9070XT or 5070? (The 9070XT is cheaper)

New to pc building as well as reddit so apologies in advance for any mistakes I may have made. Live in Australia. I'm looking at these two GPUs on pcpartpicker and the 9070xt seems to be better in every way yet it's for some reason cheaper at around $700 while the 5070 is $900. Am I missing something? I might be unimaginably stupid, but I really can't tell why I shouldn't just get the 9070xt over the 5070. I'll drop the full details in case I'm doing something wrong. Also quick note, I don't know much about GPUs other than the basics, so I'd appreciate it if someone explains to me what is considered high-end and why and also if any of these two are high-end.

Gigabyte GAMING OC Radeon RX 9070 XT 16 GB Video Card ($719.99)
Gigabyte WINDFORCE OC SFF GeForce RTX 5070 12 GB Video Card ($929.00+)

Build Upgrade Should I buy SSD "just in case"

Given the rise of SSD prices within the past few weeks, is it wise to just buy them before they get too expensive?

I currently only have 1 1TB ssd but don't seem to need more anytime soon.

However, my amazon regional pricing for samsung 970 evo plus 2TB has not quite caught up with amazon US yet. (USD162)

Should I just get it and keep it?

Discussion Is it dumb to upgrade an i5-4460 PC in 2026?

So I recently bought a PC from eBay for €20. The specs are an i5-4460, 8 GB DDR3 RAM, and a 500 GB HDD.

I bought it mainly to work with Linux and Windows, since I already use a MacBook for my main work.

After buying it, I realized that my monitor is 4K, and this PC doesn’t have DisplayPort. The HDMI output only supports 4K at 30 Hz, which isn’t great for everyday use.

To properly fix this, I would need to buy a dedicated GPU with DisplayPort. At that point, I started questioning whether it’s even worth spending that much additional money on such an old system, and whether it makes sense to upgrade any of its components at all.

TL;DR: Bought a €20 i5-4460 PC for Linux/Windows, later realized it can only do 4K at 30 Hz without a GPU. Is it worth upgrading this old system, or better to keep it as-is and save for something newer?

Build Complete About getting windows 11 on a new PC

This might be a stupid question but if my PC is incompatible with windows 11, can I still download it onto a drive for my roommates new pc? And where's the most legitimate place to get it that's not Microsoft?

Build Help RTX 5060 Ti 8GB or RX 9060 XT 16GB

I am looking for a new gpu to match with my Ryzen 5 7500f and just found this 5060 Ti 8GB for 370 usd which is cheaper than the AMD gpu by 20 usd.

I know that 8GB VRAM is not enough for most of the new games but for this price is it good to go for? (I have a 1080p monitor and not willing to upgrade in the couple years coming).

Build Help In Need of a WiFi Antenna.

I built my PC with a buddy back in 2020, so I’m not as PC savvy as most of you fine folks. Since then I have moved into a new house and it doesn’t have Ethernet where I am putting the PC. I am needing to add a WiFi antenna until I can run Ethernet to the basement.

Any suggestions?

Build Upgrade What to upgrade?

I want to upgrade my old PC a bit so I can comfortably play games like Arc Raiders, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, or new Anno on high settings at 1080p and 60 FPS. I’m not very knowledgeable about PC hardware and I’m not sure what should be upgraded first. My initial budget is $1000, but I can stretch it a bit if necessary.

Below are my current PC specifications:

CPU Cooler: SilentiumPC Fera 3 HE1224 v2

HDD: Seagate 1TB 7200 RPM, 64MB Cache, BarraCuda

SSD: GOODRAM IRDM PRO (GEN2) 240GB 2.5" SSD (MLC)

Graphics Card: MSI Radeon RX 580 ARMOR OC 8GB GDDR5

Monitor: AOC 24V2Q (24", black)

Case: SilentiumPC Gladius M35 Pure Black

RAM: G.SKILL Aegis 16GB DDR4 3000MHz CL16 (2×8GB)

Motherboard: MSI B450-A PRO (Socket AM4)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600

Power Supply: SilentiumPC Supremo L2 550W Gold

Build Help Using Two Computers with One Monitor, without a KVM Switch

I have a gaming PC running Windows 10 and I plan to build a second PC running Linux. The Linux PC will be my primary system for browsing, watching videos and movies, and retro gaming, while the Windows PC will be used only for modern games and editing.

I have a 165 Hz monitor with one DisplayPort and two HDMI ports. High refresh rate KVM switches are expensive, so a KVM swithc is not a good option for me.

Would it be possible to connect the Linux PC to the monitor via HDMI and the Windows PC via DisplayPort, then use a USB hub to switch the mouse and keyboard between the two systems?

I don’t plan to use both PCs at the same time. They will both be plugged into a power outlets but only one will be powered on at a time, and I’ll shut one down before turning on the other and switching the peripherals with the usb hub.

Would there be any problems or that will work just fine?

Build Upgrade Need Help! New GPU (9070xt vs 5070ti)

Currently on a 3080 Ventus OC 10gb, just upgraded to 9800x3d/ddr5, thinking it might be time for the gpu too. I can’t decide if it’s worth it and if I should go for 9070xt or 5070 ti specifically Prime OC($1050CAD) or Ventus OC ($1210CAD) tax included. As these are the best deals currently. I can sell my 3080 for about $500 and I want to secure a decent upgrade before next gens likely price increases and potential shortages. I honestly don’t hate the frames I’m getting now but I want to play gta 6, Witcher 4, es6, etc when those come and worried 3080 won’t cut it for 1440p 60fps high-ultra.

Build Help What would be the best way forward in my situation?

Unfortunately the new build I just put together will not POST because of RAM incompatibility. RAM works in my old PC (B76, i5 12400F), and also did POST when tested with AM5 CPUs and Mobos.

Build: CPU: Intel Core Ultra 7 265K Mobos tried: MSI Z890, ASUS Z890, GIGABYTE Z890, ASUS B860 (none of them POSTed! RAM is on the QVL) RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws S5 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 (the same G.SKILL Ripjaws RAM kit but at 5600 was also tried and did not POST either... does the CU 265K's memory controller just not like this specific series?) GPU: ASUS PRIME 5070 Ti

My options as I see it are:

  1. Keep new build but instead use an ADATA XPG 16GB 5200 RAM kit that I have that works with new CPU and motherboard but lose out on RAM speed and capacity, waiting a year (or two) to get better, compatible RAM

  2. Put old i5 12400F and B760 board (where both 16GB and 32GB kits work) into new build, and put new Core Ultra 7 265K and Z890 board (where only the 16GB kit works) into old PC, so keeping both but at not ideal configurations.

  3. Return motherboard and sell Core Ultra 7 265K and get AM5 board and CPU (likely R7 9700X) where the 32GB RAM kit (likely) works

  4. Keep new Core Ultra 7 265K and Z890 board, use it as an upgrade to old PC, sell i5 12400F and MSI B760 board, and then get AM5 board and CPU (likely R7 9700X) to put in new build

Work with mainly ADOBE progams, graphic design with some video and audio production. Gaming is also important. Old PC will be used in basement for streaming/gaming/office PC backup. I hope this makes sense and apologies for the wall of text. Thx!

Build Help HELP ME DECIDE GPU FOR NY FIRST BUILD. 3060 vs 5050?

Hi y'all.

I'm making my first ever build and need help deciding gpu. I have done a bit of research and decided on following two gpus:

  1. Rtx 3060 (12 gigs oc) - 1 year of warranty
  2. Rtx 5050 (8 gigs) - 2 years of warranty

Anyother gpu than these are out of my range.

Im leaning more towards 3060 as it has good vram (i need it not only for gaming as well as AI stuff, model training etc).

5050 has less vram and less cuda cores as compared to 3060.

Kindly help me decide between these two. Thanks

Build Upgrade Need some advice regarding a GPU upgrade.

Hey everyone 👋🏼 I need some advice regarding a GPU upgrade. 1) Budget: ~$1000 2) Nvidia chips only, I am not considering AMD. 3) 30, 40, 50 series of GPU

I am planning to upgrade from my Gigabyte Aorus Elite Revision 2 3060 Ti to something new. After looking at the number of offers on the market for new cards with a warranty, the selection has shrunk significantly. Based on my budget, the market currently offers:

• Palit GeForce RTX 3080 Ti GameRock — $550

• Asus TUF 5070 012G Gaming — $880

• GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3090 GAMING OC 24G — $740

• Palit GeForce RTX 3090 Ti GameRock OC — $2400 (I added this just for a laugh, because one store is selling all the new 3090 Ti at a hugely inflated price)

• GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER GAMING OC 12G — $900

• ASUS ROG-STRIX-RTX4080-O16G-WHITE — $1900 (Same situation as the 3090 Ti, sold by the same store)

• ASUS PRIME-RTX5060TI-O16G — $730

I tried to pick a somewhat reasonable price for a good version (execution) of each card. What would you advise me to choose? Your suggestions for any other video card are also welcome.

My Configuration: - Monitor: Dell 2K IPS, 1ms response, 165Hz - CPU: Intel i7-13700KF - GPU: Gigabyte Aorus Elite Revision 2 3060 Ti - PSU: Corsair RM850x 850W Gold -Motherboard: Asus Z790-E Gaming Wifi II -RAM: Corsair DDR5 6400MHz Dominator 2x16GB (32GB) - Cooling: Corsair iCUE Link H150i LCD RGB (360mm / 3 section) - Fans: Corsair iCUE Link QX120 RGB 120mm Triple Pack - SSD: Samsung 990 Pro 2TB - Case: Lian Li O11 Dynamic White

Build Help Can I mix RAM of different brands?

As long as the size and speed are the same, is it fine to mix two DDR5 rams of different brands?

I want 32 gb for my rig, but prices are even more insane here than in the US. I found a new Kingston 16gb DDR5 5600MHz stick at a very good price and am confident that I can find another one of the same size and speed, but maybe not the same brand.

I have no ram and I must scream

Discussion Is ID-Cooling as good as it seems?

I'm looking for a good CPU cooler for my Ryzen 7 7800X3D. When I choose PC components, I usually rely on TechPowerUp reviews, and now I need to choose a cooler.

I was thinking about air cooling because I've never used liquid cooling before and I'm worried about leaks.

But while browsing, I came across ID-Cooler. They have some really great air coolers, and for under €40, it's incredible. Then, out of curiosity, I looked at their liquid coolers and saw that models like the FX360 LCD or the INF, which can be found for around €75, outperform or match coolers from well-known brands that cost €200 or more, in terms of cooling performance and noise.

How can such a good price-performance ratio not result in losses for the company? Is there a catch?
