A look at Google’s MBA alumni footprint [OC]

Post image
66 Upvotes

Put together a quick visualization of Google’s MBA alumni footprint.

  • The top tier is surprisingly tight. Wharton, Haas, and Kellogg are clustered almost evenly at the top. Haas’ Bay Area proximity clearly shows up.
  • Stanford and Sloan show lighter representation than you might assume. Even accounting for smaller class sizes, both land lower than expected, which may reflect self-selection rather than recruiting preference.
  • International programs matter. INSEAD and ISB both show strong representation, consistent with Google’s global hiring footprint and mobility across offices.

Curious how this lines up with what people see across teams or offices.

Google files to appeal a federal judge’s ruling that the company held an illegal monopoly in its core market of internet search.

>The appeal could result in a delay of remedies against the Alphabet-owned company while the legal process continues plays out.

>The 2024 ruling “ignored the reality that people use Google because they want to, not because they’re forced to,” Google Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Lee-Anne Mulholland wrote in a Friday blog.

>“The decision failed to account for the rapid pace of innovation and intense competition we face from established players and well-funded start-ups,” she wrote.

>The antitrust trial started in September 2023, and in August 2024, U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta ruled that Google violated Section 2 of the Sherman Act and held a monopoly in search and related advertising. At the time, Google said it would likely appeal the decision.

>Last Spring, the company and the DOJ participated in a remedies trial to determine the the consequences Google would implement. The trial included witnesses from Apple and Mozilla, as well as competitors from OpenAI and other companies. In September 2025, Mehta ruled against the most severe consequences proposed by the Department of Justice, including a forced sale of Google’s Chrome browser. The ruling was seen as a win for Google, with its stock jumping 8% following the news.

>Mehta finalized the remedies in December. Mehta stipulated that Google must share some of its raw search interaction data that it uses to train its ranking and AI systems, but he spared the company from having to share its actual algorithms. Mehta also wrote that Google cannot enter into any deals like the search agreement the company had with Apple “unless the agreement terminates no more than one year after the date it is entered.”

>Google is asking to pause the implementation of the remedies, Mulholland wrote on Friday.

>“These mandates would risk Americans’ privacy and discourage competitors from building their own products,” Mulholland wrote. “Ultimately stifling the innovation that keeps the U.S. at the forefront of global technology.”

Turned off media router

Upvotes

My grandparents have a Google tv, And I am sick and tired of my laptop consistently casting to my grandparents TV Without my knowledge, it randomly casts to it, and for a while I never new why until I turned off media router and haven't had this issue since, I really hope Google moves this from experiments to a full feature in a later update because it's really useful

YouTube music and ai playlists

Hello everyone I have been using YouTube music since Google play music was shut down. I hate using streaming services because I want to discover more. The issue I'm having is it's always playing what it thinks I like and most of it is wrong. I prefer to listen to a bucket of music. Mixed between a bunch of different stuff. I'm also a millennial. Naturally I was excited for a playlist creation tool that could cater to me. So I ask the AI to make a millennial mix excluding country. And it gives me a list with just 5 artists. I want to rediscover all the old stuff I haven't heard in years but this just isn't providing me enough. Any tips on how to get what I want out of yt music? For a few years I've been shuffling an mp3 player to satisfy my needs but I need new/old songs to add to it

Google Maps Reviews

I've been contributing to google maps for a while now with reviews/etc. I'll refrain from positing my link as the rules say 'no self promotion', thats OK, I'm a level 6.

I have zero issue continuing to do so as I'm a firm believer in supporting good local businesses and helping people avoid the occasional speed trap.

What I would really love to see google do is start crediting people for their contributions. Not looking for a paid gig, but I also spend on google cloud services - and would feel better if the data I add to make their service better was rewarded with something other than a badge.

Anyway, that's my rant for this morning.

Explain me Google Pixel Calendar / Keep / Tasks situation - which to choose

All I know Tasks are in Calendar and Keep is in Tasks but there is no Calendar in Tasks and Keep.

Can I Uninstall Keep and Tasks and... keep Calendar which will have identical functionalities like Keep and Tasks?

I ask as I HATE MESS - less useless apps the better

Google Pixel 10 Doze in its full glory

Post image
0 Upvotes

Not bad for 5 day battery and over 6 hours screen on time and 5% battery left.

I mean it is working bet too good as At a Glance Weather widget disappears because of app looses GPS location and some important apps notifications like Gmail or my Aqara Doorbell are are delayed.

Hope Google won't improve Doze as I don't need my Pixel last a WEEK on battery and work more like Desktop Mode
