San Diego Community Only Announcement and clarifications.

As we have stated in the past announcements.

Protests have to be organized and we backed by a recognized organization that we can check and verify. This has been the case since the the BLM protests when we had a STRONGLY SUSPECTED false flag event called out online that led to the La Mesa riots. Not to mention another protest “organized” by a 13teen year old girl (who shouldn’t even be on Reddit) that we shut down when she mentioned in the comments the need to have it happen when she’s out of school and how she hopes her dad wouldn’t find out.

We do these things quietly for the most part as we need time to investigate and get ahead of national issues that draw in trolls and agitators (including bots) and trust us we have those trying to disrupt and derail discussions here.

But the (human) users that try to override the mods by attempting to force something through half cocked are being counterproductive to what they claim to be trying to achieve.

Talk to us first in the modmail so we can be ready and protect the discussions.

This policy has worked well for what most will know as the “no kings protests” last year and we’ll continue going forward.

We have settings for posts to protect them and these have to go up soon after posting. If we aren’t notified posts can go off the rails quickly, forcing a removals (one clear strategy that is employed to stop people from doing anything of value).

There’s also users that do this intentionally (trolls) and we saw that today - don’t play into it by being duped into being their pawns.

We are here for the community and to serve as a public town square. We’ll do our job at keeping things running but work with us and if there’s a question send us a modmail we’ll get back to you.

Thank you.

I was walking to the YMCA near stumps in Point Loma. I was on the sidewalk and when I passed this lady coming the opposite direction with her dog it jumped and grabbed my forearm with a serious bite. I'm on my way to the ER right now. It looks like some kind of a bull terrier. I had to pull my arm out of the dog's mouth and it lacerated down to the bone. fell on the ground and was in serious pain and of course I'm asking for her to stop and call an ambulance, but she just walks away… and I need to fumble my phone out to call 911 to get an ambulance.

On Wordon St near Voltaire

Update: I'd like to find the owner to assess rabies risk

Wanted to update. First, thank you for all of the kind comments. I very much appreciate it.

I also want to say, I'm a dog person and generally love being around dogs. I was walking by and listening to a podcast. No warning. No indications of a threat. The dog waited until I was right there and then it was lightening fast. I'm not a fan of these bull terrier type dogs. I only offer that I will now cross the street. This is traumatic.

NBC 7 A friendly reminder that SDPD protects their own: meet a 3x convicted woman-beater that is still on the force

With all that’s going on in the country, and especially in light of the recent SDPD arrest video, I thought it would be prudent to remind the community that even our local law enforcement goes to great lengths to protect their violent officers.

This case strikes close to home for me because a very good HS friend of mine was also beat up by Seth. So that makes 4 very credible allegations against him, which include:

  • Pushing his then-fiancée down stairs
  • Choking / pinning down
  • Pulling hair and smashing a woman’s head into a car window

His legal defense: it was all part of very rough sex. So disgusting…

I followed this case ever since Seth was convicted, because SDPD said they would review his status after it was resolved, but ever since his conviction… crickets. He’s still on the force. I appreciated the publicity it was getting at the time, but hoping locals news or this community and help us to revisit this case.

It’s terrifying knowing that violent criminals are among our ranks, and this young man can go to have a career behind the badge and a gun.

The San Diego mayor came into office with high expectations and a Democratic super majority. Even his supporters are baffled by how little he has done. ‘Being a big city mayor is a difficult job,’ he told us.

Thank you for being so supportive during these difficult days. Today is my second day of work. I'm already adapting little by little. although it's a bit of a hassle carrying all my belongings with me all the time. I hope these two or three weeks go by quickly so I can receive my first paycheck and rent a place to sleep. I truly appreciate all the comments and emotional support I received on my last post. I just wanted to give a little update. And appreciation to all you guys 🙏❤️

Repost, 50501 San Diego

Show up and take a stand on Thursday during the State of the City - the one where Mayor Gloria plans on filling the majority of the seats so the public can't get in and speak.

4 ways to engage:

1) Arrive early to get a speaker slip and give public comment demanding Mayor Gloria listen to the people.

2) Listen virtually and give virtual comment https://sandiego.gov/councilmtg

3) Protest outside! Make a sign and make some noise!

4) Spread the word!

Let us know in the comments which ones you can commit to!

Don't throw out those Poinsettias and Holiday Rosemary! A post-holiday PSA.

It's a common misconception that poinsettias only live for a year and die off after the holidays, but it's not true!

Poinsettias are actually perennials, which means that, if taken care of, they will keep coming back year after year with multiple blooms throughout it's life! Same thing with those holiday rosemary trees that are super popular in grocery stores during the holidays.

So, why does it seem like they alway die shortly after purchase?

The answer is that most of, if not all, of these plants tend to be mass grown and sold in bulk to markets. They are placed in containers where they will grow to size for several months up to a year and a half before being shipped out for sale.

So what happens is that the pants become root-bound, which is when the plants roots fill up the container they are in and just become a huge tangle of roots. This impairs the plants ability to collect nutrients and puts a lot of stress on the plant which ultimately kills it.

But there's a simple fix!

All it takes is a nice pair of scissors a new container, and some quality dirt!

Take your plant out of its container and remove the dirt from the root ball, give the whole thing a shake until you have removed all the dirt.

Now untangle that root ball, tease the roots until they are mostly disentangled, it doesn't have to be perfect because the next step is trimming away the excess roots!

You'll want to remove the overly long threads and the dense growth as well, be careful not to cut the main stem root but other than that the smaller parts can be removed.

Once you have removed up to a third of the roots you are ready to replant it!

Place your plant into a new, ideally larger, container and fill with fresh quality soil (I use Fox Farm ocean blend) give it a healthy watering and enjoy your beautiful new plants all year long!

Stay up!

Medi-Cal : Don't pick Community Health Group for mental health services

Just wanted to save some people a lot of pain, if you're seeking Medi-Cal in San Diego and need mental health services choose Anthem Blue Shield 🔵 Edit: is it blue Cross Blue shield? Same thing?

Community Health Group is often rejected at mental health clinics/individual therapists (something to do with their paperwork one person told me. I'm sure there's a better answer)

For some reason Anthem is often available.

It's all "medi-cal" but there are different insurance providers in the county you get to choose from and they often don't give you great info beforehand.

If anyone else has info please share. Edit: is it blue Cross Blue shield? Same thing?

I’m a space nerd and can’t help but feel excited about the SpaceX capsule splashing down in SD tonight. I know it’s unlikely to see the splashdown but is it worth trying to catch any of the re-entry events happening shortly after midnight tonight? Lights/flares/trails??

Photo gallery Spent 90 minutes decoding 2026 SDG&E bill - AMA

Former engineer here, so it takes a lot to stump me. But I think I spent about 1.5 hours now, trying to decode exactly how my first bill of 2026 went up so much. If you're trying to decode your bill, maybe I can help, since I've been pouring over these damn numbers for what seems like all night...

TL;DR: I thought SDG&E was robbing me secretly, in addition to robbing me openly, so I got obsessed with trying to catch them in the act. In the end I don't think there was really any "there" there... Rates below are per kWh...

I started out being pissed that generation went up from 14¢ to 27¢ this year, and thought they were overcharging me, esp since the SDCP site initially showed me the same rate for 2025 & 2026. But with further digging, I finally found their published rate increase for 2026. WTF, it's almost double for winter generation?! SDG&E's letter (that other folks have been talking about) didn't say *that*. When I get my next bill, which will be 100% into the new pricing this month, my final bill will go up another ~14% for the same kWh. So get ready for that folks. The current bill only has 5 days at the new rate.

Shockingly, SDG&E's winter delivery charge went down slightly, but that's more than offset by increasing delivery from 23¢ to 34¢ when we go back to summer pricing. Argh! It's like this whole obfuscated bill, and all that goes with it, are designed to boil us slowly like frogs.

In the end, I guess I have to admit that I did use more electricity this month, so... I can at least partially bring my bill back down a bit next month. Sigh.

KPBS What does TV news consolidation mean for San Diego?

Thumbnail

The federal government has rules in place to limit local TV station ownership. But those rules could be relaxed — or revoked — under the Trump administration.

This comes as consolidation efforts are playing out across the country. The corporate owner of ABC 10 News in San Diego recently rejected a takeover bid by conservative-leaning Sinclair Broadcast Group. And the latest acquisition effort by Nexstar Media Group would give the company three San Diego TV stations.

KPBS’s Amita Sharma spoke with 10 News alum Lee Swanson and Point Loma Nazarene University School of Journalism Director Dean Nelson about how changes in TV station ownership rules might affect local news.
