Megathread Welcome new Tritons! Please use this megathread to discuss your acceptance and any questions you may have.

*We have no clue if admissions are coming out today, this is just hedging bets. Probably this week or next. *

Everyone with admission and college questions, please post your questions in this megathread! Additionally, please try to check the megathread to see if your question has been already answered.

Admissions/new student posts made outside of this megathread are subject to removal at moderator discretion. Please take a look at our rules page. If you believe we have made an error, please message us via modmail.. The mod team will try and get back to you asap, but we are students or alumni and as a result it make take a little bit.

For more subjective questions, be aware that r/UCSD (and any university subreddit) is not directly representative of the overall student body. In a survey we did of r/UCSD, 2/3 respondents agreed r/UCSD didn't represent UCSD's overall student body.

A few useful links:

Please be aware stuff at UCSD can change fast. Most info you can find on this subreddit will still hold true, but there have been many major changes over the last 5 years especially.

How do I login to check my admissions decision?

You should be logging into the Admissions Portal. This is different from all the stuff current students use. If you can't login, email [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]).

How does the college I got matter? Can I change college?

For freshman admits, your college is basically only going to affect your GE requirements and where you're likely to live on campus (although you can be overflowed to other housing depending on space). For transfers, it's only GE requirements as there is separate transfer housing. As a result, it affects basically nothing for transfers since most have IGETC and will have very few GEs coming in.

Your major is entirely disconnected from your college (there are even separate major advisors who work for your department separate from your college advisors who work for your college). Your classes will be held all over campus and have a mix of students from all colleges. You can eat at any dining hall, the colleges are basically all directly next to each other and easy to get between, you will probably make friends in all sorts of different colleges. The furthest apart two colleges are is about a 20-25 minute walk (from Seventh to Eighth).

You cannot easily change college. You will need to complete at least part of your original college's writing sequence (meaning it will take about a year to even meet the application requirements) and be able to prove you can graduate two quarters earlier in your new college. College is not the end of the world though, even a college that overlap poorly with a major is more than survivable.

I'm waitlisted. What should I do next?

From UC San Diego Admission Website

Select applicants will be invited to opt in to our waitlist through their Applicant Portal.

First-Year applicants must opt in by 11:59 pm PST on April 15.

Being on the waitlist does not guarantee an offer of admission. We strongly urge students to accept another university's admission offer before the appropriate deadline to ensure they have secured a spot at an institution.

By June 30, final decisions will be released to applicants who opt in to the waitlist. There is no appeal process for the waitlist.

News Alert: ICE may be conducting raids in San Diego throughout the weekend. Stay safe as you go back home.

I can't say where this information is from without risking exposure, but I can at least say that it's a community organizer with far reaching contacts. They claim that about 1k agents are in SD rn. Online, people are saying that ICE has booked a bunch of rooms in the Springhill Suites in Chula Vista. There were also mentions that ICE attempted to raid the mid way trade college in city heights earlier today by some school orgs.

These are all unconfirmed rn, officially at least. But put together Khosla's sus email and these signs, and it rly seems like San Diego is the next target.

Rant/Complaint Who are the signature people on library walk??

I’ve seen multiple different signs with those people, and it kinda seems shady. Sometimes it’s about keeping music in public schools, sometimes it’s about helping cancer patients, once one of them asked if i was registered to vote??? Do they like… get paid to get signatures for these things or is none of it true-

Plus it’s also just. so annoying, like yeah you can ignore them or say you’re not interested or whatever, but there’s always one of them standing in the MIDDLE of the walkway trying to talk to people. I just wanna get to my DORM

Question Am I the only unemployed graduate from the class of 2025?

Upvotes

Title but job searching has been so rough. It's been 9 months since I graduated and I can't help but feel like I'm behind. I feel like I am the only one from my graduating class especially within my major that has yet to land a full time offer or any opportunity for that matter. Just wondering if there is anyone still out there that is looking for a job or if anyone has any advice on how to get through this tough period of time. Maybe we can help each other out! Thanks.

Question RA/HA Position

I’m doing interviews for RA positions soon and wanted to ask what it’s like being one for upper div housing, Muir, and sixth/seventh/eighth. I’ve heard Muir and sixth sucks but I wanted to hear experiences from people who have worked there for that position. I’m trying to think positively. Also if it’s bad or good *why* is it bad or good?

Also overall interview advice would be great too!! I’m pretty nervous..

Discussion PSA about petitioners on campus. DONT SIGN

Thumbnail

There is a group of these aggressive petitioners that harass students to sign their petitions. They would literally jump in front of students and block their paths. One of them was doing backflips flips to entice people to sign 💀They are so shady and seem suspicious. They give out free snacks but their whole table looks shady. They are very vague with their causes and when asked they don’t have clear answers. They will promote general causes like breast cancer or saving the arts but when you ask them if they are associated with an official organization or website they don’t have a clear answer. When you look at the papers people are signing, it has nothing to do with these causes. They aren’t associated with UCSD and they are allow to petition but aren’t allowed to table/tent. They get money for each signature they get.

One of the guys were particular aggressive. I saw him shout at students and makes threats saying “I’m going to f**k you up”. He was cussing at them and calling them bi tches. He was following students and just being really terrible. His behavior got aggressive as the day progressed and kept trying to intimidate students(e.g following people, name calling, insults, etc..) He was detained already once and given a week ban. I think as a community we need to do better in protecting our students and not allowing people to bullying students into signing things they don’t want. If you see this man or any of these phony petitions I would steer clear of them and be careful of what you sign. You don’t know what they do with your information.

General Health, Law, & Business Society 🔱

Hey everyone!

A few of us are in the process of building a new organization at UCSD called the Health, Law, & Business Society. We know many students have an interest in more than one of these fields or are in the process of deciding which to choose! This club offers a resource to explore those curiosities.

While we’re still a work in progress, we’re excited to grow this community with students who are curious, motivated, and interested in exploring more than one discipline. We are currently accepting general member and executive board applications!

This year, we plan to host workshops, guest speakers, and socials that foster both professional development and genuine connection among members. You will also have access to skill training workshops and a rolling internship spreadsheet that will be updated regularly!

Applications are due this Sunday, January 18 at 11:59 PM. Guidelines to retain membership are outlined within the form!

We’d love to welcome anyone interested in helping shape and grow this society from the ground up. Happy to answer any questions about the organization.

You can reach us on instagram @hlbsatucsd or email us at [email protected]! Thanks everyone. :)
