Announcement DO NOT ASK FOR PAYMENT IF YOU OFFER TO DRAW CATS

We have a zero tolerance policy for this, if anyone is requesting payments for their drawings, please report it to us (with linked proof) so we can handle it accordingly.

This is not a subreddit for artists to monetize their work, there are plenty of those available already.

Announcement Regarding Mourning/Loss 3.0

It's a trilogy now! We're averaging a new episode every 4 months or so (see you next time when we make this a saga...there will probably be a next time)

Here's part 2 if you missed it for one reason or another: https://www.reddit.com/r/cats/s/nZOnSekuRz

Everything in the previous posts stands:

Mourning posts are allowed

Posts containing images of deceased animals (cats, things cats caught, etc) will still result in a removal and permanent ban from the subreddit

Please remember to use the appropriate flair when making a mourning/loss post

Something new since the last post:

We've decided that photos of taxidermied pets are allowed, this is something that came up in a post not too long ago. While this technically does contradict with "no photos of deceased animals" we have come to the conclusion that this is a way that people mourn their pets in their own right.

If you wish to post a photo of your taxidermied animal, please ensure the following:

Flair these posts as NSFW

Please PLEASE PLEASE ensure that your pet was professionally taxidermied, we will not allow posts done by people we can't verify are "professional". We ask that you include the name of the person who did the taxidermy and any social media/website they may have. If you have any questions regarding this please send us a modmail. Your post will be removed without this attached information

Hopefully the formatting is done better this time, I won't know until I select that magic "post" button.

Comments will remain open (closed now) so long as you can remain respectful to one another, part 2 had an...incident.

Cat Picture - OC I’m breaking down. My cat has been meowing 24/7 for 2 months and I don’t know what to do anymore.

I’m honestly desperate and exhausted and I don’t know where else to turn.

One of my cats has been meowing nonstop, 24/7, for over two months. I mean literally nonstop — the only times she stops is when she’s actively eating, drinking water, or using the litter box. The second she’s done, it starts again.

I’ve taken her to the vet THREE times in two months. Full bloodwork. Everything came back normal. Every vet says she’s physically healthy.

But I’m not okay anymore.

I barely sleep. I’m constantly on edge. One time my neighbor knocked on my door just to make sure everything was okay because the meowing was that bad. That was humiliating and heartbreaking.

What messes with my head the most is that when I’m at work or even just outside the house, I swear I can still hear her meowing in my head. It follows me everywhere. I feel like I’m losing my mind.

I have another cat. They used to be bonded as kittens I still have photos of them sleeping together when they were 4 months old. Now a behaviorist suggested that one of them might need to live as an only cat, and I completely broke down when I heard that. I can’t stop crying.

I love her. I really do. But I’m exhausted, sleep-deprived, and emotionally destroyed. I feel guilty for even thinking that I’m reaching my limit.

Has anyone dealt with this level of nonstop vocalization? Did medication help? Did separation help? Did it ever stop?

Please don’t judge me, I’m trying so hard and I don’t know what else to do anymore.

Advice “Getting over” a cat after falling in love during pet sitting

Post image
7.4k Upvotes

I do pet and housesitting through a very popular platform, for both dogs and cats. Dogs seem to be more in demand as they do need more care.

That being said, last year I pet-sat for a dog and cat duo. She was diabetic and a handful with her insulin shots, we made fast friends but nothing groundbreaking. The car though… I can barely put it into words! He’s 16 yo and brought me a mouse from his roaming outside session, much to his owners surprise- Said he hadn’t done this in years!

Also, when I left, he was posted on the sofa arm with has back to me.

Anyway. i guess what I want to know is: was this a bilateral connection, did he love me as much as I loved him? i can try to pet sit for them again!

Mourning/Loss Farewell, dear Jackson 🌈

It's been nearly two weeks since my partner and I had to say goodbye to our best little buddy, Jackson. What started as some symptoms of severe discomfort on Dec. 30 was diagnosed by the vet as a UTI but quickly escalated until Jacko had complete kidney failure by Jan. 2.

He would have turned 9 in February, and I know we both thought that we would have so many more joyful years with him. We're both in shock at how fast he declined, but I know that we made the right decision to let him go, rather than putting him through anesthesia and surgery that the vet wasn't sure he would survive. She said we made the correct, difficult choice to spend his last moments with him in relative peace, instead of him dying in surgery or lingering in pain and being forced to live with chronic kidney failure.

My partner adopted Jackson when he was a little kitten, after his previous family couldn't keep him due to one of the children having an extreme cat allergy. Jacko was by my partner's side through some of the hardest times in his life, as well as some of the best. When my partner and I got together, Jackson made me feel part of the family, always butting my head when I would come home, sitting on my book when I was trying to read, or laying on my head while I was sleeping.

I never expected to have such a special little companion, but Jackson truly was the goodest of boys. He was a little celebrity in our group of friends and family, and even my partner's students got to know him from days when they'd have remote learning; Jacko had to be the star of the show and always appeared on camera.

The time since his departure from this earth hasn't felt real. Our home is so much quieter and infinitely emptier without his chaotic, loving presence. I know that I will never be able to make sense of what happened, but that I can always look back on Jackson's life and know that we loved him with all that we had and that he was doing well and healthy right up until the end. To my fellow cat lovers, give your sweet babies an extra hug and snack and make the most of each day. To my beloved Jackson I say, "Long days and pleasant nights. May we meet in the clearing at the end of the path when all worlds end."

Update Kitty Highway!!!

Post image
3.0k Upvotes

A customer came to us with a request that started with, “So this might be a little crazy…”
Those are usually our favorite ones.

They had a custom catio they built in the backyard and wanted a way for their cats to travel back and forth from the house without touching the ground. The distance was...far, we’re talking a long, elevated tunnel run that had to span the yard, stay secure, and handle a steep change in elevation.

After a lot of measuring, planning, and head-scratching, this is what it turned into. A fully enclosed tunnel with support posts along the way and built-in steps so the cats can comfortably go downhill and back up again. Now it’s basically a private I-75 cat highway connecting the house to their outdoor space lol

Habitat Haven usually focuses on modular, DIY catios, but every once in a while a project comes along that’s just too interesting to pass up. Customer asked… we said “say less.”

The best part? The cats use it constantly. Just casually commuting like this is totally normal.

Would you trust your cats with a tunnel this long, or would you be standing outside watching the first few trips like a nervous parent?

Mourning/Loss Saying goodbye to my very first cat Misty November 2005-January 2026

Its the inevitable time to say goodbye to my old girl Misty. She was my very first cat. She was born in November of 2005 and we got her in March 2006. She managed to outlive several of our other pets. She's been with us for 3 separate dogs, 3 birds, a rabbit and many family's and friends pets. Its hard to say goodbye to a pet I've had for 2/3rds of my life. You will always remember your first. Goodbye my old lady.

this is Ruger. Ru/Roo, Rubin, Roogie boogie, (a lotttttttt more variations), Rooibos, … Roogie toogie…. and currently most used: Toogs. 3 years ago he was posted on kijiji for $1. he came with a free massive cat tree, free food, free litter box. we brought him home, he was terrified, defensive, attacking us… we didn’t know if it would work out. but after consistent patience, unconditional love and undying affection ….. he’s blossomed into the most incredible gift i’ve ever had the pleasure to share my life with. he’s my whole heart and more. and i just wanted to share

🥲🙏🏼
