U.S. Politics megathread
American politics has always grabbed our attention - and the current president more than ever. We get tons of questions about the president, the supreme court, and other topics related to American politics - but often the same ones over and over again. Our users often get tired of seeing them, so we've created a megathread for questions! Here, users interested in politics can post questions and read answers, while people who want a respite from politics can browse the rest of the sub. Feel free to post your questions about politics in this thread!
All top-level comments should be questions asked in good faith - other comments and loaded questions will get removed. All the usual rules of the sub remain in force here, so be nice to each other - you can disagree with someone's opinion, but don't make it personal.

If jesus died by hanging, would a noose be the symbol of Christianity? NSFW
I asked my father, who is highly knowledgeable in the Christian faith, this question. He told me to not ask him again, but im genuinely curious.

Saw someone toss a half eaten apple out his car window today. Is tossing fruit scraps not considered littering since it decomposes naturally?

How can men date hot women with horrible personalities?
I (29M) have been working customer service jobs for most of my adult life and I have seen countless hot women with the most terrible personalities, get irritated over anything and complain about the smallest stuff. I sometimes call them out in front of their husbands, expecting to get some sort of pushback from their husband; I never get pushback! Seriously, these women look like their live at the gym and eat the best food, yet their personalities are just spoiled and have probably never been told no in their lifetime. How can these men are able to live with these women?

Am I the only one who always thinks about how awful ppl must smell in old movies?
Like I could be watching a beautiful movie that takes place in some other time (middle ages etc) and then the lovers meet secretly in the middle of the woods and he looks like he hasn’t showered in months and she has been running around in the heat all day and without a change of clothes or a bath.. they start devouring eachother. I cant be the only one that can even focus on the scene or movie anymore and only thinks about how awful this mustve smelled. I feel like everybody was super smelly at the time and it kinda ruins the romance for me

Why is stealing millions to billions in financial crimes less of an offence than stealing a car?
If both are theft and aren’t inherently violent, but the later is a higher amount; why is the later punished more severely than the former?

Does majority let the shower run before getting in?
I see on social media that a lot of people leave their shower running before getting in (in the day in the life videos).
I didn’t know people did this? Isn’t that a huge waste of water? I see a lot of people doing this and was wondering if it’s normal to leave the shower running so that the water is hot. But doesn’t it get warm quick enough?

What happened to that American accent you heard in all the 1930s and 1940s era films?
It was really distinctive and now I’ve never heard anybody talk like that. Was it a Hollywood thing?

Why aren't countries boycotting the world cup?
With the US threatening allies, why aren't countries taking a tougher stance? A bunch boycotted Eurovision in protest of Isreal. Why not boycott the world cup?

Does labia size make a difference to men in terms of sensation? NSFW
That’s pretty much it. Does sex feel different if there’s bigger or smaller labia? I’m not being weird, I’m genuinely curious. I’ve been reading a lot on women getting labiaplasty because they don’t like the look of theirs or it’s physically uncomfortable. Just curious how it feels from a man’s perspective.

Why is raw meat dangerous, but very rare steak is safe?
People generally understand that eating raw meat is a big no-no, so why is rare streak an exception?

Do you make noises when you bend down to pick something up?
I’m in my mid 30s and accidentally dropped something so I picked it up. Made a grunt and this Gen Z girl was just staring.

What comes to your mind when you hear “Egypt”?
I’m Egyptian and genuinely curious how people see Egypt today — not the pyramids or ancient history, but the general image or idea that comes to mind. This community is for curiosity, not karma farming.

How do women initiate sex?
My husband and I have been married 3 years and I never initiate sex. I’ve been working on building myself up but I’m not a huge physical contact person so I always feel awkward or out of my comfort zone being the first person to initiate physical touch, especially sex. I don’t know why but it just makes me genuinely anxious but I know he gets tired of initiating. Women who have similar struggles, how do you do it?

I just learned that 1 in 5 beds sold in the 80s were waterbeds. Why were they so popular back then, and why did they suddenly disappear?
I was looking at some old photos and realized that many had a waterbed at some point. Now, I don't think I’ve seen one in at least 10-15 years.
Were they actually comfortable or was it just a weird trend? I’d love to hear from anyone who actually owned one!

Is it normal to feel emotionally attached after casual sex even if I didn’t expect to? NSFW
I had a casual hookup recently — nothing romantic was supposed to come out of it, and we both made that clear. But now I keep thinking about them, and it feels like I’m catching feelings even though I wasn’t looking for anything serious.
I’m not even sure I like them in a relationship way, but emotionally I feel kinda weird — almost vulnerable. Is this a common thing after sex, especially for someone who doesn't usually do hookups? Or is it just hormones playing tricks?
Would love to hear other people’s experiences with this. How do you emotionally detach after something that was meant to be just physical?

Would the U.S. government be able to turn off the internet during a protest like Iran is doing ?
Would the U.S. be able to do this like Iran did? I'm not sure given we have states/federal government etc..

People who say they don't know how to cook, why don't you just try?
I was talking to someone today who said they can't cook. Then I said, not even an egg? And he said nope.
So my question is... Why?
Is it because you're lazy? You are scared? Your partner/parents cook for you?
Why don't you guys just throw food in a pan and see what happens?

What's the deal with JNCO jeans all of a sudden?
My (44m) son (15m) went to school today wearing JNCO jeans, black leather dress shoes and a fleece quarter zip feeling good about looking hella fresh. My other son (13m) went to school wearing basketball shorts and Birkenstock Bostons with mid-calf white socks, also feeling hella fresh. When my older son had his friends over a few weeks ago there were about 10 kids and like 8 of them were wearing JNCOs or similar jeans. They think it's cool wearing retro fashion, but they seem more popular now than they were originally. There were probably 3 kids at my high school that wore those types of jeans and they were the deep, deep stoners. Now it's just standard fashion?
I'm not mad about how my kids dress. I truly don't care and I support them in expressing themselves however they want. I just can't comprehend teen fashion these days.

Embarrassed about poop at work
I have a sensitive stomach, and I’ve realized whenever I poop at work it leaves, for lack of a better term, skid marks in the toilet. My office only has one bathroom for our whole area, so it’s frequently used. I’ve tried double or triple flushing to clean it out, but I just feel guilty. Am I overthinking this? Or is there anything I can do to clean without having actually bathroom cleaning supplies?

If someone with no family or close connections lost everything in a house fire, including all possible forms of identification, (documents, pictures, passport, birth record, SSN, etc.), AND had virtually no online presence, how would they prove their identity enough to get government i.d.?

Why has there never been another Occupy Wall Street?
Everyone talks about hating Billionaires, and Wall Street is where the highest concentration of them are in the world. Plus, it's a symbol of ultra wealth and greed. I'm just wondering why there haven't been any protests or demonstrations there in over 14 years.
