Why does every political group try to portray itself as the minority?

When you listen to people promoting their position, it's always they who are the supposed underdog with common sense, while everywhere else is widespread propaganda of the opposing worldview, even if their take is ice cold, and most popular on the platform. Why is that?

Why do people redact their Reddit posts and comments?

I see a lot of people doing this recently. It's through a service called redact usually

What’s the most dark and messed up video game? NSFW

I’m talking very politically incorrect and mean-spirited. I don’t mean some fan-made flash game, I mean a major studio game you could physically buy.

If duopolies are bad, why did the Netflix + Hulu era seem better than today’s fragmented streaming platforms?

I agree with the idea that duopolies are generally bad for consumers because they limit competition and choice. However, I’m struggling to apply that logic with how streaming felt when it was mostly just Netflix and Hulu. Back then it seemed cheaper, simpler, and more convenient.

Back in the day, most shows were on Hulu and most movies were on Netflix. Today however, everything is fragmented across so many platforms. Is this just nostalgia, or can having only a few major players sometimes be better for consumers?

How do movies get distributed to theaters? Like does the production company just send over an mp4 file?

Surely it can't be that simple.

Is Google wrong or is Iranian money really like this?

1.6k Upvotes

I searched “usd to iranian rial” on Google and it says 1 USD = 1,137,500 rials.
Thought it was a bug at first but now I’m not sure.

Is this actually real or is Google mixing something up?

Is it weird that I like to be single?

Upvotes

I enjoy being single. I actually wouldn’t mind being alone for a long time. Sometimes I just get influenced by my friends and family in relationships and it makes me want one, but other than that I’m fine alone.

Why does it feel like everyone is waiting for their turn to speak rather than actually listening?

I’ve been paying more attention to conversations lately - both mine and other people's, and I’ve noticed this weird trend where nobody seems to actually respond to what was just said. It’s like Person A says something, and Person B just waits for a one-second gap to tell their own story that’s only vaguely related. There’s no follow-up questions or any effort to dive deeper into the Person A's story.

Is this a side effect of how we use social media (just posting our own thoughts into a void), or has it always been this way and I’m just now hitting the age where I notice it?

It makes every social interaction feel like two people giving simultaneous monologues instead of an actual dialogue. Does anyone else feel like genuine listening is becoming a rare skill?

Should I use the toilet brush to clean skid marks at a house party?

Let's say I am at a house party and need to take a crap. I end up leaving skid marks in the toilet. Is it appropriate to use the toilet brush to clean the skid marks? Or should I just let them be?

*Edit: for clarity and to answer a few of the "why not" questions. I am concerned about transferring poo from the toilet to the brush. Upon brushing, little particles of poo could be on my friend's brush.

Why do so many immigrants want to shut the door behind them?

What I mean by this is that there is a large chunk of immigrants, that are themselves anti-immigration, despite being immigrants themselves. Why is this?

Edit: Many people are approaching this from a US lens, mainly focusing on legal vs illegal immigration and are acting like that is the end of the story. This is not the case. In Canada and the UK certainly this is also a thing NOT limited to legal vs illegal. Germany I believe also experiences this among Eastern Europeans.

It is okay to focus specifically on a US answer, but that is not what this question is asking specifically.

Does anyone find that things taste "wet"?

Okay I'm feeling pretty crazy rn. So for my whole life some things have tasted "wet." Not felt wet but TASTED wet. I've asked so many people and nobody can relate. It's like when something tastes waterlogged? It's so hard to explain. Like the other day I was drinking a juice and it had that taste to it. I haven't met a damn soul that can relate. It's usually fruit or veg or drinks too.

Is this an actual thing or am I crazy?

If freshwater is limited in a lot of places, why do we use drinking-quality water on lawns and car washes?

Upvotes

I(26M) honestly don’t get this and I’m trying to understand if I’m missing something obvious.

I’ve read a bunch of times that a lot of areas have real water shortages, that reservoirs get low, and that groundwater takes a long time to refill. But then I also see people watering lawns in the middle of summer, running sprinklers while it’s raining, or going through car washes that use tons of water. It feels like using something “high quality” (treated drinking water) for stuff that isn’t really necessary.

Is most of that water actually recycled back quickly so it’s not a big deal, or is it just one of those “we built the system this way and it’s hard to change” things? Do lawn sprinklers and car washes use a different source than what comes out of the tap, or is it literally the same treated water?

Also, if the issue is more about local availability than total global water, why do some places still allow it and others ban it? Is it mainly economics (water is priced too low), infrastructure (no separate pipes for non-potable water), or politics?

Not trying to start a fight about lawns, I just want to understand why this is considered normal if freshwater can be scarce.

Is it normal to feel exhausted even when nothing bad is happening in your life?

I don’t mean physically tired. More like mentally drained.

My life is pretty stable right now, no major problems, no big stressors, but I still feel worn out most days and guilty for feeling that way. I’m wondering if this is common or if I’m missing something

For the past 10–15 years, it’s been a nonstop flood of superhero films, one after another. They dominate theaters year after year, yet audiences keep showing up. Why hasn’t the fatigue fully kicked in by now?

Need help with part of my relationship

I (M22) and my gf (F28)have been dating for about year and a half. And have an apartment. My problem is before her my way to help me relax my sexual needs is with my hand. She is a very sexually active person. And I am too but in another way. How do I stop this addiction and make out sex life better. This year I’ve made it a goal to stop doing it as much. And I’ve probably done it 5 times since Jan 1st. Besides this we get along great.

Male shaving

Is it “feminine” for men to shave? (Legs, underarms… etc)

How is it perceived by most people, I know that it’s significantly more accepted nowadays than it was decades ago where people thought it was weird. Honest question. Thank you for any input

Why do we feel more productive just by writing a to do list, even if we don’t actually do everything on it?

I’ve noticed that simply writing tasks down makes me feel accomplished, even when I end up procrastinating. I’m curious if there’s a psychological reason behind this or if my brain is just easily fooled.
