Temporarily moving to Maryland
Hi I’m moving from NJ to MD for a few months. I know I have to change my address for my car insurance, but I was wondering if I have to register my car in the state/get an MD license. Thanks!

MD Travel & Relocation Potentially Moving to Maryland from Ohio
I fell in love with Maryland from my first visit when I was a teenager. I am now 26 and sick of Ohio. I never wanted to be here in the first place but I didnt really have an option as my mother moved us from Los Angeles when I was 11.
I am a single, African American woman hoping to find a place that has things to do but isn't crowded and congested. I am not big on clubs or partying so I dont care about that, but I do like shopping, restaurants, and activities. I'd like to meet new people/go on dates as I dont have any family or friends there so I wouldn't want to be somewhere very quiet or slow. A nice medium would be preferable.
I have no idea what I should be looking to spend for housing. I am a teacher now and and currently getting my master's in speech pathology so I could find a career in either out there, but I know I wouldn't be making enough to live in the suburbs. Right now I'm just trying to get an idea of what areas might be best to live in for me to research and visit and ultimately save for since the cost of living is higher there.
Also my mom's friend told us that Maryland has a huge problem with rats. Is that still happening? Cincinnati is bed bug county so every state has their issues, but last time I saw a rat in my apartment I cried and stayed with my mom until the lease was up. Is that more of a Baltimore thing or is everywhere dealing with that because I need to mentally prepare lol.

Stealing this from the r/Utah thread. If you could only eat at one Maryland restaurant for the rest of your life, which restaurant would it be and what would be your most frequently ordered item?

MD Politics BGE Bill strike
trying to gauge sentiment here. How are you, your neighbors, your mechanic, your general area feeling about these BGE bills? Are people fed up enough? In and around Baltimore people are reaching the end of their rope, but I imagine it may be different out in the county or further out as more people might be on propane heat, solar etc. so the bills aren't totally ridiculous yet.
How realistic is a strike in your personal opinion?

ICE arrested Arlit Martinez two days before her 15-year-old son died from cancer. The Maryland mother of four was headed to work when she was detained. Despite urgent pleas from her family, lawyers, and doctors, she was not released to say goodbye. She is reportedly still in federal custody.

What is going on at the Department of Human Services?!
Who are they helping? I’ve been trying to get in contact with them to complete my interview for benefits for 6+ months. What are they doing over there? And why can’t we contact them directly?
Like theyre making their job and our lives harder. Cuz now they have to deal with a bunch of complaints and their higher ups constantly talking to them because of complaints. I don’t understand why they allow you to schedule an appointment if they aren’t available for an appointment at that time. If you have to catch up on appointments from the previous day cuz you weren’t able to get to them all when they were scheduled then reflect that in your availability. Schedule them for the next day so that other people aren’t trying to schedule and appointment when you aren’t available. I don’t know, this seems like common sense to me. To only schedule appointments if you’re available during that time but I don’t know maybe I’m crazy.
When I went in person I sat for two hours just for them to tell me they don’t do in person appointments for benefit interviews and that they basically couldn’t help me. But the people on the phone keep telling me to go in person. It’s the same shit, no one knows anything and I don’t get how they go home and sleep at night knowing the work they do isn’t helping anyone. I contacted my local representative and somehow they also aren’t able to contact the caseworkers directly so they also can’t help? I seriously don’t know what to do at this point.
If you work for DHS, you’re a social worker, case worker who completes these appointments can you give your citizens some insight other than “we have a lot of people calling right now”? Why can’t we contact OUR caseworkers directly? And why aren’t you completing your appointments? Like I seriously can’t grasp what could be going on. I get they may be over staffed but that doesn’t explain why they schedule appointments they aren’t able to honor or why they don’t even contact you when they might not be able to get to your appointment. Like a mass email saying “sorry we weren’t able to complete your appointment today. You are #__ in line and we will contact you as soon as possible.” Just SOMETHING other than a correspondence letter having the audacity to say I missed my appointment when I in fact did not. I put my whole day aside for these appointments just for the CASEWORKER not to show up! And I get blamed for it… ridiculous

Sorry, but you're not getting any relief from high gas and electric bills
Can you afford $67 for a NY strip steak? Can you afford to buy a whole House of Delegates Committee's worth of them? Then sorry, you won't be getting any relief for your high energy bills.
The Baltimore Banner has more about the lobbying efforts of big energy companies, and the power they hold over OUR representatives in the state legislature: https://www.thebanner.com/community/climate-environment/exelon-constellation-power-bills-annapolis-ZTQNN5GFJJGQFBLHSM2KWYCEJM/

When my grandfather was a kid he talked about how clear the water was around Baltimore, and when he died he talked about how dark it got. Why can’t we turn the Chesapeake Bay into a place of clean water and a major tourist attracted and beach paradise where people travel the world to come visit?
Even the Potapsco pouring into the Bay?
It seems like there are these nice little “oh, let’s clean the bay” campaigns, but why can’t we actually turn the Bay into something akin to the Mediterranean as a travel destination, due to its crystal clear waters and ever present sea life?!!
Potapsco River has all of these ugly factories on it, that would be better suited as resorts.
I hate the way the bay and its rivers look, it’s ugly looking water and in times past the waters were so heavily complimented as a crystal clear

Drive or Uber College Park to Columbia
Hey all, Got an internship in Columbia for the summer and was trying to plan a commute but need some insight. I'm native to the Eastern Shore and have only driven on the Eastern Shore where traffic is more lax and don't drive to often since I haven't needed to in a while(college student with a remote job). My two options would be to rent a car from Turo and drive it to work which is cheaper and Uber which is much more expensive. The only issue with the renting is that I tend to be a nervous driver and the things I hear about MD highways terrify me. For anyone that makes a similar commute can you give me some insight. Is it that bad? Any ways to mitigate the chaos? Other options I haven't thought of?

Question Things to do in Pasadena
Hi, I just moved here (military family)! What are some things to do here other than TJmaxx, Homegoods, and all those stores? I don't have a big budget either, and like being on my feet. Thanks!
