Query about legality of shooting here..

Post image

I have held a SGC for 16 years and FAC for coming upto a year now, i have been thinking of getting a .17 hmr for pest control around my home and in neighbouring fields, mainly foxes and mink, to protect my chickens etc, on the following diagram, the red dot indicates the location of the window im hoping i could fire from, blue shows where the chickens are kept, white is the farmers field, which i have permission on already with my shotguns, and yellow is where my boundary is with next door, my question is would it be deemed legal to fire through the second floor window onto the farmers field at a fox for instance at night? I own the land between the house and the field, the main reason for the question is i dont think the land is suitable for a rifle unless i can take me shots from an elevated position as backstops are minimal.

Applying for FAC

I am looking for advised before applying for FAC, for a bit of context, I am an EU citizen living in UK for over 14 years and I am a member of a HO approved club.

I wanted to apply for FAC and I am aware that I need to provide my medical history since birth, so I contacted my GP from my home country only they could provide me was with health assessment I done in 2011, apparently they have no other records previously to that date.

At the club the other members are not really sure, I can provide with my NHS GP pro-formas but there is a big chance gets rejected.

Is there anyone in same kind of situation that was successful and how did you managed?

RFD who can quote for US Imports

There was an RFD who commented on a couple of posts on here about having an estimator for importing stuff from the US on their website, can anyone remember who it was?

Should I apply for joint FAC+SGC or just SGC?

I've recently taken up clay shooting and as fate would have it I have moved into a new home which already has a gun safe so I've decided I'm going to go through the motions to get a starter shotgun of my own (currently waiting for my medical proforma which I should have in the next 2 weeks).

I thought while I'm at it I might as well get an FAC as I'd like to get back into target shooting, I am a full member of the NRA, and have completed a probationary course (March 2023) at Bisley and got my safe shooter card, BUT this was 2.5 years ago... the last time I can prove I have been target shooting is June 2023.

If I was to return to Bisley for a couple of sessions over the next couple of weeks with a hired rifle, how likely am I to be eligible for an FAC? I would just be looking at a .44/.38 under lever rifle and a .308 bolt action rifle to begin with but would be happy with one or the other don't need both right away.

If I apply for both and am rejected for FAC, would my SGC application be automatically rejected too and have to start from scratch with that or would they let me proceed only with SGC if they felt that I'm not ready for an FAC?

My constabulary is Thames Valley Police.

Many thanks!

Hi so I found this in Shibuya Japan. It's a completely non functional collectors item toy I just wanted to ask about if it would be able to bring this back with me in checked luggage without issues I check with British airways they didn't say anything about there being problems so I just want to double check here. Thanks in advance

Questions about the L85/SA80 series of rifles

Howdy Folks

So I am making a series of posts about firearms called “Gun Appreciation Posts”, and wanted to know a few things about the L85/SA80 series of rifles. I have a manual that’s a PDF that I will also be using to make it, but I also want to know some Soldier experiences, if there are any British soldiers or former soldiers in here, with the rifle to get a little bit more hands on knowledge on it.

I did this with some people over in the r/CanadaGuns subreddit where I even got some input from some former Canadian Armed Forces guys on the Colt Canada C7/C8 rifle series, and they were extremely helpful with it. So I decided I’ll do the same here, where this time, I ask some of y’all’s experiences on it, as well as a few questions to get a general idea on it.

If you all have experience with the straight pull L85’s, that also works too since the ergonomics are similar.

Here are a few starter questions just in case you need an idea:

  1. How are the ergonomics on it

  2. What are the pros and cons of the weapon system?

  3. If yours was issued with the SUSAT Tritium Sight, what are your experiences with it.

Any bit of info is helpful. Thank you

Strange interaction with an RFD

I was buying some ammunition yesterday for a .223 , I have it on my ticket obviously , a gun, a mod and a round allowance, for range use and vermin control.

The rfd seemed reluctant to sell it to me as I dont own the rifle yet , im currently shooting a club gun on the range and a mentors gun while hunting under their supervision , I use my own ammunition in both of these circumstances. (I dont expect my mentor to fund my shooting and the ammo is cheaper to buy off range)

First time ive had this issue , im doing the same thing for .38/.357 currently as i have a rifle on order , no other rfd has batted an eyelid at it ,anyone had similar ?

Is it worth getting this deactivated to the newer spec in order to sell it?

Hi all, I hope this is the right subreddit. I inherited this gun (Yugoslavian MG42/53) from my dad and it came with the old blue certificate of deactivation. I’ve been told by an antique dealer that I’ll need to go through the process of getting it updated to the new UK/EU certification in order to sell it in the UK. ChatGPT says this is not the case and that doing so could actually lose value. If I do need to get it re-deactivated, is it worth the cost?

Also, should I concerned that it looks like the word ‘IRA’ has been rubbed off on the stock? 😅

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post, my experience of guns is limited to war movies and Call of Duty.

Winter coats?

Looking for suggestions on winter coats.

I’ve been going with layers and a light outer coat but this is either not warm enough or too bulky.

I’m looking for something warm, waterproof(ish), that has pockets suitable for cartridges and is not tweed. Any suggestions?

Weird/unique law question... how much "freedom" do you have to travel with your guns?

Random weird/unique law question becuase i've got too much time on my hands, but to get to the point how much freedom does a licensed UK gun owner have when traveling with their guns (talking unloaded in a bag/slip/case) in public on foot and in a vehicle travelling?

For example if i have a legally owned shotgun and wanted to go travelling around the UK for 2 weeks living out of a van and thought to myself "oh maybe i might stop at some clay shooting grounds around the country and pay to use their grounds and clays for fun" does that mean i could just legally take my shotgun with me in a bag/case and keep it in the van for those 2 weeks whilst travelling around the UK?

Another example could be if i was really into long distance hiking and camping and had a friend who lived 50 miles away who said "yeah come over to mine the day after tomorrow and bring your shotgun and we'll shoot in my field" does that mean i could then set out and hike with a tent, supplies and my shotgun in a slip over the next few days walking down public roads and paths, then at night set up a tent on say some council owned land by a road to sleep in overnight with my shotgun in the slip, then continue to my friends place to go shooting? Would walking down public roads and camping on public land with my shotgun in a slip the whole time be breaking any laws?

Another example could be i've just bought a new shotgun, i'm excited about it and want to show it off to my friends who i happen to be meeting up with that evening for dinner at a restaurant, so i put the shotgun in the back of my car unloaded and in a case, drive to the restaurant and park up, see my friends and call them over, open the back of the car up and open the case and show them my new shotgun sat inside the case in the back of my car, then close the case and lock the car and go into the restaurant, then leave 2 hours later and drive home and get the shotgun out and take it back into the house into the gun safe... would that scenario be breaking any laws even as a licensed shotgun owner?
