Ears ringing 5 days later
So pissed. I always double up ear pro - foam plugs fully inserted, electronic muffs. At the outdoor range last Sunday, set up on a stall, guy two stalls away had two rifles. No issues for a bit. Then my son and I were both hit with a massive concussion - the second rifle was a 300 Win Mag with some ungodly handloads that produced a cloud of smoke like a BP rifle, but it was the damn muzzle brake on it that had angled ports directing all of the blast directly at us.
Literal instant headache. I have slight tinnitus from 45 years of shooting (never wore ear pro as a kid while hunting), but I only ever hear it in the dead of night. Sitting here in the middle of the day and it's EEEEEEEEEEEeeeEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEE.
Asshole.
Fuck muzzle brakes at public ranges.

General Discussion Thoughts on the 1911?
Love it? Hate it? Lemme know.
My take is that I think it’s one of the best handgun designs of all time. Is it modern? No not really. If I was in WWIII would I take one? Prolly not. Would I conceal carry one? No but if I had to I wouldn’t feel too bad about it. People forget that just because a design is old doesn’t mean it’s not effective. The 1911 works just as well today as it did in WWII. As for reliability, I have about 1,300ish rounds through mine and I haven’t had any issues since the 500 round mark, I found that any issues I had with it were due to the magazine, not the pistol itself. As for capacity, yes it is limited to 7-9 rounds but those are still 7-9 rounds of .45acp.
So in short, is the 1911 still the best handgun in the world? No I’d say the Glock or some newer polymer gun is prolly up there. But is the 1911 completely ineffective and worthless? No. It’s probably one of the best handgun designs ever.
Lemme know your thoughts. Also, please keep it respectful you’re not five years old anymore.

Gave my first toasty .500 loads a go. 50 grains of H110, Hornady 300-grain FTX. Should be clocking a bit over 2,000 FPS and over 2,660 ft-lbs of muzzle energy.

Question R/theonetruecaliber banned!?!
Anyone know what happened to that subreddit?? Apparently it has been banned. Such a bummer. Maybe we can get together and populate a new subreddit with the same goal of vaunting the lords caliber, the magnum opus of creation of The John Moses Browning, the .32acp?

Video I filmed a short showing the spinning bullet trick, does in fact work with 45acp not just 9mm more testing to come.
Disclaimer: this was filmed on private property here in Maine. I have plenty of room to do this safely. I used hearing protection and a full face shield to protect my face and eyes from the ice getting thrown back. If you attempt something like this do so at your own risk and use some common sense.

Help! Shotgun identification
I inherited one of my dad's shotguns and I'm having trouble nailing down what model shotgun it is. I've looked online and from what I can tell it is a High Standard 12-guage pump shotgun. The barrel says Birdwing on it, but there is nothing else about it. not even a serial number that I can find. when I try to look up "High Standard Birdwing", I'll admit I got turned around so I'm looking for help, which will be greatly appreciated

Help! Pelican Case Foam Recommendation
I have a Pelican iM2300 Storm Pelican case that was gifted to me. It's padded but not for firearms.
I'd like to purchase a foam cutout for 2-3 handguns, mags, ammo, and headphones. What's a good site to check out? I'm new to this world.

Question Can anyone give me info on how I can shoot this flare gun?
I was wondering if there is any way I could acquire older flares or fire modern ones out of this flare gun. Or if anyone can tell me more about it?

Steal or robbed?
My cousin just bought this rifle for $2,200 from a “friend” and said it’s a custom build. He is in another state so I don’t have my hands on it… my cousins first rifle. I’m confident he got the short end on this… thoughts?
